- Frustrated by the amount of time between forming a piece and decorating it after a bisque fire, Mitch Lyons came up with several finishing techniques he could incorporate into the forming stage. Many of these involve colored slip. In this video, Mitch shares a few of those techniques, including how to make your very own clay pastels.

A genuine Kung Fu master of mixed media decoration - you must seek out his other videos and watch in awe at the innate skill and control he demonstrates over this medium - awesome
Learned a lot. This is my 2nd time watching this and now I get it. Thanks!
Love your way of thinking with design. Thank you for sharing.
VERY interesting mix of techniques. I just wish we could have seen the piece after it was completed.
Just go to his website.
It's nice to see this technique. I use vinyls on top of each other and use to screen print, so I was looking for ways to use the Mason Stains. Very nice, thank you for sharing this with us.

I have a very nice mortar dieor concrete dye if you will its terracotta it's a really nice terracotta color you think this would be okay to use comes in a liquid form kind of thick
Please what is organic color you used to make your pastels?
I’d have love to see the finished plate?
What is meant by adding "organic colorant" when making the pastels?
Whats an organic colourant?
Mitch, please, how do you make powder out of the balls of pastel
Let them dry and then crush, pound or work through a sieve.
Interesting but what does the finished piece look like?
Can we do this with other slips that are not porcelain?
Yes, you can! My understanding is that porcelain, being white, shows the colors best, but any type of earthen clay, not plasticized or Femo, can be used.
So where's the finished piece ??????
Yeah, cool graffiti style, very quick and could produce cool and edgy results. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting and I too feel cheated by not seeing the result!
@custard the cat Lol was thinking same thing
Go to his website to see finished pieces.
