First timer here it's an interesting look but you should make your edges on the terrain and characters bolder as it's pretty fast pace and at its current look it blends so much it looks blurry as hell.
This was the first time I found the technical part understandable in a devlog as a non-programmer. So probs to your explanation skills
Awesome and thanks! :)
Grateful to the youtube algorithm again; Keep up the good progress and please don't mind delving deeper into the technical details
In-depth explanations of implementation approaches are always super interesting
Thanks! :)
Personally i dont really like the pixel mixed with the 3d but i urge you to not change it. Its extremely unique and it will make you game stand out a lot more. It gives it its own identity you see? Keep up the good work
extremely unique is a bit exagerated. ever played doom?
@@stellanFPS I think you missed the point. In this game only the player model and some npcs are pixel art where as the landscapes are 3d. It's the mix of art styles that people are talking about. Doom was consistent with it's style.
@@stellanFPSdoom was also only 2d
I LOVE IT
The fuck you talkin about? This game looks gorgeous!
The 8 directions is a huge improvement, I love the style!
Came for a game update but learned so much more!
Awesome! :)
I honestly think depending on how you want the story for the game to be, having some parts of the environment, character design and especially the enemies clash stylistically is a great tool to draw attention to things being "wrong".
I especially thought the strange clashing of pixel art and the off-putting 3d models of the enemies to be interesting.
Also, i really enjoyed your pofessional approach to the fundamentals of your game, such as the loading zones, and implementing your own solution whilst being able to explain it well is wonderful.
Keep up the good work!
I'm no pixel art guru, but from what I know of pixel art; I think you should try some sub-pixel animation in the idle animation, specifically the breathing. A neat video I watched on sub-pixel animation made use of many references to the game Metal Slug. ("What is sub-pixel animation" by Ansimuz). I'm not cut out to give advice on other things, love the graphics, and good luck.
Sub-pixel animation gives off a different feel to everything. It might be what is missing or it might change the whole feel of the game.
@benrex777productions9 recently I've tried it in walk cycles, it's insane the impact it has. It's like motion blur for pixel art, maybe smear frames. (Prob not acccurate analogies).
@@NevilsicoShard I just talk as an observer. My ultimate height of pixel art is a wavy line with a circle in front of it.
Things I like:
-I like the clash between pixel sprites and more detailed models I think things closer to the player should take on a more pixel aesthetic maybe interior of a house, but things further away can be 3D like the exterior of a cave or building.
-Focusing on making 3d models in the 2d pixel art space adds a lot of mystique to the monsters in the world. I think keeping the monsters as a blend between 3d models and low poly would look really cool
-The movement looks really fluid and fast pace which looks really fun, adding sliding, dodging, roll and maybe some obstacles to maneuver around could be cool while avoiding monsters. Say i'm being chased by the monster shoot him and slide under a tree root to trip him while chasing or something like that.
Suggestion: I'd recommend adjusting the breathing animation looks a bit jank she looks like a frog inflating and deflating her chest
Recommendations:
-Adding craftable components throughout the forest to craft arrows monster hunter style on the fly
-A bullet time ability
-Alongside the grapple arrow mechanics maybe add pulling, swinging, and wraping mechanics to use on enemies or tree limbs and overpasses
From the first time I saw the first Devlog #0, I knew that you were more creative... I wish you every success🔥🔥🔥
Thanks! :)
I really like the contrast between the pixel art and detailed, atmosphericly lit landscape. That was what caught my attention, so hope an aspect of that will be preserved in your updated art style. Contrasts are what make stuff exciting. Look forward to see how the game progresses!
Same. Its a real cool way to express a character being in an unfamiliar place
@@Nevakanezah_ true!
I wanted to say the exact same. It'll probably look more cohesive when he actually develops the enemy/world designs. It's still so early. But the contrast is great. Some people seemed to think everything needs to be pixel art, but that's unimaginative. This idea will stand out among all the pixel art indie games.
It can symbolize a lot of narrative ideas too. Like traditional/modern, good/evil, magical/mundane
Same. It makes the character seem good and childlike while the world is inhabited by scary beings. It actually works well
Loved how you put so much information, talked about your game, and made it a relatively short video! Keep up the good work!
The way you break down how these different systems work together is really good. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video.
Super Excited for this Series, The Game looks amazing!
New animations were totally worth it!
Loved all the technical details
Thanks! :)
This is the first video I've seen of it but I think it's spectacular, the blend of graphics pixel art or whatever totally works and keep doing what your doing!
you're a great educator. i got ready to skip the technical stuff, but it was incredibly well explained for the youtube format and for a general audience. well done! looking forward to more :)
Breathtaking visuals and gameplay looks so fun already. ❤
Wishlisting now. 💪🏻
your passion shines through in this project. Ill support when its available to be.
I really like how transparent you are keep it up man!
This is beautiful, congratulations on your hard work.
Thanks for all those explanations, was really interesting to watch
Good for you. You should be really proud of yourself; for where you've gotten the game to, and this devlog. Well presented, charming, and funny. Great work. Looking forward to seeing more from you in the future.
Thanks! :)
Wow!!! AMAZING work bro! This looks so unique, i hope its going good!!
awesome project !!!! Keep it up and I can’t wait to see the final result !
Amazing dev blog. Keep up the cool game process.
first time here but this project looks gorgeous, please never give up on it
Excited to follow your progress, great video!
woah this looks super cool! love the mix of bit art and 3d
I love how it looks. Can't wait to try it!
Thanks for posting! New to programming and planning to use Godot for my game development once I have a decent-enough understanding of coding basics. Looks great, and I appreciate that you included those optimization and plug-in sections! They helped me understand some potentials for how to structure map/enemy generation in the future, and what type of plugins to look for, depending on the engine I end up committing to.
I really love the camera perspective here. Will definitely be keeping up with this project!
subscribed, liked, wishlisted and it will be bought day 1! thats how exited i am.
Wow, this looks right up my alley, super cool!
I'm so excited to see this coming along! You'll have an easy day 1 buy from me
Creating your own dynamic load zones is really impressive, I would love to see a tutorial on that from you; but I can understand that a magician doesn't always reveal their tricks
It's amazing, nice work, I love it. Hugs from Brazil.
Hey, just wanted to say the TH-cam algorithm slid this my way and I’m so happy about it. Not only was it awesome to see this game and think of its potential but your in depth explanations for things was very interesting. If I ever have the strike of motivation and money to make a game it’ll be nice to know a couple things, so thanks for the video man keep up the awesome work
This design is so creative and I love it!
This is awesome content! I really appreciate the breakdown on the draw calls and how you are optimizing/scaling the game. Would love to see more of that as you progress. Good luck!
Thanks! :)
I really really love your technical explanations. I’m getting a CS degree right now, but I want to do games as a hobby and I really like learning crossover information like this that doesn’t hold back for people who wouldn’t understand. But regardless I’m sure most could understand your explanation. Great job!!
Still looking incredible. Love the side note on optimization too, definitely information that can help others getting started.
I absolutely love the contrast between the pixel art and the environment
Thank you for making this video, keep up the good work. the game looks incredible, obviously not graphically(still having placeholder assets) but it seems like it would be quite fun and it has a very unique look. It reminds me of heidleid.
Such a cool concept, I appreciate insight into how CPU/GPU work in correlation. Great vid! 😁
This was a super insightful devlog! It's interesting to hear your process and your approach to design. Can't wait to see more.
I'm really curious about what kind of narrative/lore there is going to be.
Wow the style of this looks amazing, keep it up!
I normally don't like pixel art in 3d games, but this has an incredible amount of charm. Wish listing and subscribing to see where this goes!
Can you please make a dedicated video explaining the importance behind performance and how it relates to the hardware side of the computer like you did in the middle of this video. It was so well explained and it would be so good if it had its own dedicated video! Obviously you're probably really busy making this super inspiring game, so don't feel pressured, just a suggestion. Love your work!
Good work man. Will be rooting on your project to succeed
Looks awesome! You laid down some important ground work. I’m excited to see what comes next!
Thanks! :)
Not only that the game looks super cool, its also huge win for godot community. You making a beautiful 3D game along with showing your process in Godot is and will be super helpful for the community. Keep doing that !
Please keep doing what you are doing. I will be buying this day 1.
bro this is SO COOL, love how it's coming along.
Thanks! :)
Hey man ive been incredibly anxious to use this style for my own game, but watching your progress is really inspiring! Excited for this
Awesome! Good luck with your game! :)
very cool, man. inspiring, truly.
Really great update, wish you all the best and can't wait for the next one (definitely wishlisted this!) 🍻
Awesome, thanks! :)
Great Graphics Man! So love from India❤️😄
Thanks! :)
looks like it has a lot of potential ! keep up the good work
Very interesting, you did a good job explaining the optimization process and how it all works. Im gonna have to check out those plugins for my own stuff. Keep it up!
Thanks! :)
Beautiful work friend, love to see what you're doing with godot =)
Thanks! :)
Hi there! I like your dedication to the game! And the fighting seems very interesting and dynamic :)
TH-cam's algorithm was right on time, as i was looking to paint some grass into my own project, and Proton Scatter wasn't doing it for me, so discovering Gardener was a bless! Thank you!
Love the new animations! Makes the character movement look way more fluid :D
Thanks! :D
Finally a new breeze of type of gaming. I'm going to subscribe on your channel.
really liked the technical part, you explaining and showing it, really cool and helpfull B) will take a look in this gardener addon B)
Awesome, I'm glad! :)
This project is so cool. Keep it up bro!
Nice, that's the first thing I was thinking when I saw this, it'd be much better being 8-directional. Cool that it's being added.
You’re very smart and competent! Keep it up
Love the visual style, very unique
Instead of polishing the game and optimizing it this early in development, I would recommend focusing more on the core mechanics because that is what is going to make your game actually good.
I get that. But, as a developer myself, I often find myself focusing on perfecting stupid shit that irritates me and until I finish resolving the problems I struggle to move on to other features or core design mechanics. But, you are absolutely right and if I was on a tight schedule and not doing this in my free time, I would be far less of a perfectionist.
This is such a cool project, cant wait to see more :)
Thanks! :)
Thank you for explaining game optimization!
keep it on with this, you are going far really fast! good job man
Thanks! :)
I mean dis is real quality content, it is your progress on Ur game and the explanation of gpu and CPU optimization in a Mix. Anyway your game shall be a good example for showcasing the godot engine's strength. THANK U❤
Thanks! :)
Beautiful, sound and art direction matter
This game looks so cool! Can't wait to play one day. Let me know if you ever need music composed. I'd love to work up some demos for you m8!
Reminds me a bit of Northern Journey....such a masterpiece indie-game. Good luck with the development!
Dude. You're sick. Keep going.
this game looks so amazing i cannot wait!!!
Incredible work !
looks beautiful dude 🤘🏼
I love the optimization portion of the video
Awesome video! Just subbed and wishlisted your game. The game is looking really good. I really like how the 2D character feels in the 3D world. Haven't seen lot of games like that but in your case the clash of the art style are working. Also the new sprite animations for the player character looks really good. The player movement and combat seems to be smooth and looks good :) I myself am new to Godot so some of those godot addons you mentioned are going to be really useful to me as well. Looking forward to your next devlog. Keep it up! :)
Thanks! :)
I love the mix f pixel art and 3d!
A ideia é muito boa cara e eu to gostando da execução esse 2d com 3d me surpreendeu positivamente
the visual style looks incredible
yo this is better than many other games from big studios, respect
I love the style, wishlisted!
Thanks! :)
I really enjoyed this update and it's great to see the game progressing. I am a fan since I saw your first video and love the idea and art style of the game. I am glad you kept the pixel art style for the main char and NPCs, it looks phantastic and unique in combination with the 3d world. Looking forward to the next Devlog.
I am curious if the music you used in your first presentation (and int he intro of this video) is represantive for the musical direction you wanna go? I really dig this track and hope it will be in the finished game.
The 8 directions of animation make such a huge difference. Would be cool to see a world prototype for the art style to see what the forests might look like.
Very useful tips of optimization, thanks.
Very interesting about draw calls. I have heard so many times that people dont understand the velocity of gpus and are usually creating bottlenecks there, me included. I just dont understand them.
Thanks! Hah yeah the main bottleneck usually is that it takes a while to send data to the GPU, so if all of the data is sent in one draw call the GPU can work through all of that data really fast, whereas if you send a lot of draw calls, they take a while to get there/be sent so it causes that bottleneck. Its like getting one box in the mail with a bunch of notes vs getting lots of individual envelopes, it would take way longer to open and read through all the envelopes. Hope that makes some sense! :)
Gameplay pace looks like a scene straight out of attack on titans. Really cool
Definitely sounds like you got something in mind for music.
looks great and very recognizeable
man this looks awesome
i love how the shadows hit the pixel art
WOW! this looks awesome
this game looks so weird but in a good way.. love the pixelated look and the way the camera pans as you move
You are doing great!
An in-depth overview of the zone system would be good. I haven't seen anyone cover it for Godot
