I've been using reef crystals for 15 years. Ive found rocks, bugs, chunks of clay, my mixing container is litterally rust colored in 3 months of it getting cleaned. Every single time I tried new salts, I've only noticed a benefit when going back to reef crystals. Company's been around for decades, readily available. Best salt for sure
March I love tropic Marin Salt as well but I know its not the reason why I can keep high end SPS. Stability/trace elements and patience is the only way with good spectrum lighting. Hard lessons learned and keep it simple. Your right about sticking to one salt that matches the parameters you want to keep. First review of the Trident NP.....working very well for me!
Wow i was a salt budget shopper at one point and sure i was keeping corals but 2 years ago i made a change in my mind set and now sticking with aqua forest as its readily available here and i now see growth and overall happier corals and im %100 sure it has to do with the consistent salt as thats all i have changed :)
You are truly incredible, you have so many videos in which you do not recommend TM salts and that is why you say you do not keep them in the store... It is amazing that you now share them as if you didn't say anything.
I'm confused by your comment... He showed TM's remineralization blend (All for Reef) not TM salt (which he does not recommend because it's fine but not worth the cost).
@@fragboxcorals I'm just curious, have you ever sent any ıcp about that salt before talking made on a platform where people follow you. All I have used in 7+ years is reef crystals. Never been the issue. Does require a bit more work to mix up, and some scrubbing here and there for the salt mix station. Been able to score buckets for as cheap as $40 delivered. Hard to justify switching at this point.
@@Bam-Bam1tbh I’m not sure but I had 30 gallons sitting for abt month and a half 2 months and tested it and it was 7.7 alk at 34 ppt so I feel like it stores really well but never really tested it
I made the same change over and love it. But with your setup and the price being so important in an retail store i would not for the price point. I just love how fast and clean it will mix. Best advice is pick one and stay stable is the most important thing.

I’m so glad you made this Video. A new LFS here in Massachusetts had me convinced Tropic Marin would produce better results and I was toying with switching and now after seeing this why bother. Thanks March.
Reef crystals is very good but I heard it has vitamins in it that turns into organics…..but I know a lot of guys who use it and have pretty good success with it. My go to always has been ESV 4 part salt. Very clean and mixes fast and you can alternate the parameters if you want.
Hi March. You should maybe test those buckets of Reef crystals that you got for free before you use it. Just to make sure there is nothing harmfull in it.
You guys are awesome! Always ready for a new release. Love the point and shoot content I want to support your business and buy a reef casa but you don’t ship to Alaska?
ive used a few different salts over the years tropic marin and all for reef is all i need and it kepps even the pickiest corals happy i think you just have to go alot longer than 4-6 months to see the difference but having said that your running a bussiness to make money not spend it right! lol but on the next tank you set up, might be a bit of a little extra work or keep an extra brite bin just for tropic marin and only use that salt in one tank and i bet after a year+ you will see the difference! But love your shop love your videos never been to your ship but if i ever make it to toronto which i hope to i will definitely stop in!!
What a timely video March - I was just planning on switching out to Tropic Marin from IO Reef Crystals - my pet peeve is that it mixes sooo dirty. Do you think it impacts the display tank in some capacity? I always seem to have a film of brown crud on my glass, and of course the filter floss gets like the same color as the bucket, so not sure...
Just use instant ocean. You can add calcium and alkalinity cheaper than the extra you pay for reef Cristal. All that extra you pay for mostly precipitates out.
I changed from red sea pro to d-d h2ocean about 6 months ago and I wish I'd done it sooner. It's made a huge difference to polyp extension and colouration - as well asy wallet being happier and not having to scrub the brown scum from my mixing vat every 2 weeks 😂
Only problem I had with the tropic Marin salt is that it sent my trace elements through the roof and REALLY annoyed a lot of corals when I contacted the company they said “we had a bad batch we can send you a new one” but once it goes that bad that quick it’s too hard to trust them again which is why I went back to Red Sea because they ICP test EVERY batch
If your ever around pittsburgh let me know! I have a 200 gallon reef tank you should check out, and I know a guy who has one of the greatest torch collections..its a 500 gallon tank with a literal wall of torches. luke from tidal gardens knows him and he can tell you about it.
So far the best salt I’ve used is Nyos. I had a small amount of Dino’s, and switching to Nyos got rid of it almost immediately. Maybe had to do with certain trace elements It contains.
I switched after then 5 months I switched back to Red Sea. Tropic marine is clean maybe too clean, low in Alk , BRS did a whole test on every salt second cleanest reef crystals.
Tropic Marin keep sea water parameters and Alk in the ocean is between 6.5-7.5. 20years of reefing and I've never had amazing success with SPS dominated tanks until I started keeping my parameters like the ocean. 7 ALK/ 420 Cal / 1280 Mag

Same here. And I've been using TM Classic for 4 years this coming March.
Have you ever tried ESV or Captiv8? 4 Parts salts make the most sense to me.
same and has been the fastest mixing on any that i have used.

5 months? Interzoo was 3 months ago... You did not use it long enough to make a statement like that did you? :)
Ive used instant ocean for years and feel no need to change,it works for me .
Ive been using tropic marin bio actif for 6 months & i love it. I use 90% trooic marin products as well. Its a simple system to maintain

So why exactly did you change back to IO if change is bad?
Like tm. Mixes fast. Also use all for reef so it makes sense. Sps going strong. Encrusted over rocks.
What is the red algae in the small tank that the rock fell over?
would you kindly do a video on how you supplement and feed your corals and touch on how you do it daily, weekly and monthly :)
Sure thing!
Dude, somehow you guys got removed from my algorithm and I didn't notice. I realized I hadn't seen a video from you in a while.
