    Brought back memories for me. My Dad worked for British steel many years ago & he used to travel to Port Talbot in the companies Range Rover ( when they first came out !) In the school holidays l'd go with him. When we got to the works entrance my Dad told me to get out & wait for him to come back out incase they weren't happy that l was with him !!
    Think they'd have frowned at him leaving me there on the roadside nowadays 🤔!!
    Enjoy following your adventures. We have a motorhome & are travelling for most of the year. Will keep a look out for you.

    Just started watching your channel and low and behold, you are filming my job. I’m the assessor for the unloader drivers.
    There are three unloaders, small one on the end is No3 unloader. Then working your way back down the jetty..No4 and No5. No3 unloader is no longer in use.
    They can move up to 5000 tones per hour of raw materials of the vessels depending on the cargo.
    The material is dropped from the grab into the hopper that then is placed onto the conveyor by a plate feeder. That can take the impact of the falling material into the hopper.
    The main conveyor the material is carried on was recently changed and during its tenure it’s moved not far off a £billion of raw material.
    Biggest vessels (cape size) can bring up to 160k tonnes of material and some of the smaller ones can have just 25k.

    I thought I'd share our experience at the other end of the scale. We are small, our camper (1970 Land Rover) fits into a normal parking space so we can go in pay and displays and town centres with ease (or just park up at the roadside). We made a decision early on not to be a "home from home" but rather to depend on local shops (no fridge) and eat out (only a small camp stove for when our plans go wrong) so we meet people and spend money at our destinations. This makes it more like travel and more of an adventure, but there are only two of us (1 adult, + 12 yr old) and with limited space for changes of clothes (we've even ended up buying clothes on a trip when we stayed an extra day) our usual trip is limited 3 to 4 nights max. We do a lot of pub stops and fit in the ones in city centres which we like , good for late night convenience stores since we need fresh milk for breakfast. I think we would struggle in areas with sparse populations - the highlands for example, as we are only self sufficient for around 2 days at most. Bad weather is a challenge too as we need places to go - museums etc and I would say more of our planing is about places to go rather than where to camp. Our "living area" is 4ft x 6ft including the two bunks, loo and sink so its a bit like living Tetris. We have been going to Cornwall recently and found we have no trouble on the single track roads (I try to avoid them but they seem to be everywhere...) and as as we are 4x4 we can go anywhere. Our current gripe is timed entry to museums since COVID, I know why they have to do it, but it makes planning a relaxed trip really hard, and if the weather changes we can't just rock up and go to the museum for a few hours (more are relaxing the rules but not all).

    Hia guys! Re upgrades to your van / solar / extra sockets etc. I looked at a new one last Monday and the sales guy told me that if I so much as drill a hole in it , I would void my warranty and I would have to pay them to do it all . I'm quite handy so it wouldn't be a problem for me . What's your experience with warranty and mods on your new van ? By the way you can stay at the Marconi club for £10 a night, which is a nice walk along the coast from the captain's wife 😉

    • @RoamingRadfords
      @RoamingRadfords  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marcus. I can see that if you drill a hole in the roof you’d be voiding your water ingress warranty in that area, but if a dealership will void your whole warranty if you do any modifications whatsoever unless you go back to them and pay whatever they want to charge you then maybe it’s time to look for an alternative dealer? Thanks for the Marconi Club tip

Try the Sophia Gardens car park if you struggle again as that’s a lovely spot. Surrounded by parkland for the boys and right next to the city centre and Cardiff Castle.
