You can use green pine, not dry burns too fast, I've seen many large square Imu's one we did was a 1400lb one 800 lb sow and like four more in one Imu, my concern is the rocks they have some with no holes will explode like a bomb and if they explode after you set the Imu (like when you add water) the bits of rock get into the pig, not good and keep the Keiki's away when the stones are heating!

Not much difference
round Imus are traditional
square Imus work are just fine.
I've worked with both.
