Same thing happened with my husbands grandmother. They diagnosed her with stage 5 cervical cancer, we barely got to say goodbye, she does within 4 days of the diagnosis. So drs are just shit!!!!!

Hey, I am so sorry for your grandma. And I understand the way you feel about it. I lost my grandma from leukemia 5 years ago. We are Italians, before she was diagnosed, she was mistreated and forgotten about by the health care system for about a year and a half and she ended up passing away at 64. I was only 14 and I am the oldest of the grandchildren, growing up without a grandma has been the hardest, especially on the youngest. What I have learned is to always trust your instinct, if you feel something is not right, try to find answers, and consult multiple people. I say this also because my sister had a rear disease and because it was not recognized by the doctors and she was starting to lose the function of her legs( she had just started walking), my mum turned to the internet, as she didn't believe it was "growing pains" that every doctor had told her about. In the end, she found the details online, contacted a specialist from another part of Italy, and saved my sister's life, who would have been paralyzed from halfway through her spine down. My mum was criticized so much from looking it up, but she followed her gut and saived her daughters life. So be strong, and always follow your instincts!!! They can save you!!

It shows everyone that you are really just like the rest of us and like can be hard and messy but you can sprinkle in fun when you can. My love and prayers are with Gigi right now! I know how hard and shocking it is to all of a sudden have a loved one diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. 2 years ago my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in July and she passed before Thanksgiving. I took care of her alone not knowing how sick she was in the beginning. I hope she is doing OK without a lot of pain!!!

Jess- first, I am so very sorry about your grandmother. You have no idea how much I relate.
Also, when I was 5, I had a decayed tooth and they pulled it. When my adult tooth came in, it needed a root canal, then that ultimately failed and I had to have it pulled because it cracked. Granted, they didn’t have the technology back then that they do now(I’m 49). That being said, I think you are doing the absolute right thing choosing the first option. My dental/medical anxiety has never gone away. I love that you are taking his mental health into consideration. Great job, mama!

the expander is something he’ll get used to.. i had it for 2 years and eventually i got used to it and was ok with it

My daughter had ADD and she was supposed to get her blood drawn every 3 to 4 months to check her kidneys but he never did and when she turned 18 years old we found out through a new doctor that she has stage 5 kidney failure and needs a kidney transplant so please make sure you get a full blood work up 3 or 4 times a year to be on the safe side
When I lived in Illinois and now in Indiana a CBC count was never required, only a prick on the finger to check iron levels and for a lead test. My 5 year old had so many issues with her iron being low when she was a baby that they took so many samples (blood, stool, and urine) before referring her to a hematologist who diagnosed her with an enzyme deficiency called G6PD. After her diagnosis is how I found out it’s genetic and I carried the trait over to only 1 of my children. Now she gets CBC counts done every 6 months to check where she’s at. She’s a trooper when she gets her blood drawn. ❤️

So sorry for ur loss! I understand the pain of losing a family member. I lost my mom suddenly in early December to a sudden stroke caused by a carotid aretery blood clot. It’s still hard sometimes grief never fades. Stay strong, sending prayers to ur family!

ps regarding the blood work question, i am a pediatric phlebotomist and it is very common for that age to test for cbc plus some other things. though i am in ohio and it varies by state!
I'm so sorry for your loss Jess! The sudden ones are much harder than the ones you can prepare for. I lost my grandpa rather sudden, he was fine and then stage 4 cancer and we had minimal time. I hope you and your family are doing ok!
It is not normal but it isn’t a bad idea to get the blood panel. I would get one done every 3 months to monitor my blood because of the medication I was having to take. My sisters did it once every 2-3 years
In Nebraska it is recommended we do it once a year!

Yearly blood work at most pediatricians here in NC. I’m truly sorry about GiGi. I don’t understand how her original doctor didn’t catch this. Blood work can tell if her white blood count is off. This is usually an alarm right there for cancer. I’m praying for you and your family,

Hey Jess, Im so sorry that this is happening. It's so heartbreaking. Sending so many prayers and virtual hugs to you right now. But the same thing is happening with my Nana. Long story short, she broke her hip while grocery shopping and had the surgery and the rehab. She was pretty much being scanned in that area for weeks, and then at her last scan, they found cancer cells. She had breast cancer years ago, and I guess all the trauma caused in that area reactivated the cancer cells. So we asked the doctors nicely if she was being scanned. Why wasn't this brought up sooner? Because the cancer was in that area and was going to different places. Which led us to this point today. She has to take a pill that helps her and helps get rid of the cancer with other treatments, but she is fighting.
My kids dr does, found out my son has high cholesterol, never would have known that if they didn’t do a full panel!
How do kids get that

so sorry about gigi! but yes here in Florida at our pediatrician at age 3 they start getting yearly blood work. Mainly for under lying health issues befor they become a problem. It's more of a preventative measure.

I had a deformed tooth with a hole in it (eye tooth), never came down in its own, eventually got gum surgery to get it down when I was maybe 14 (and also for cosmetic reasons because my gumline was very low). They told me there was a cavity in it, but then when they drilled into it they told me oh actually it’s just a hole. I got a brace on it and maybe a few weeks after I got my braces off it snapped in half. Now I have a fake tooth lol
My father died from stage 4 lung cancer in Feb. He had been in and out for hospital for over 2 years and they did not tell him it was cancer. 7 days before he died he was told it was stage 4 and that he was riddled with it, he was given 24 months to live. Unfortunately 7 days later he passed and it was horrible for him and my family.
Spend as much time with her as you can and do whatever you can. Praying for you and you family! 🙏 love you jess and family. X

OMG..I'm just now watching this July 4th...and last night July 3rd I was looking up 1980's Barbies that are now worth a lot of money...lol...
And to my surprise there are there Barbie dolls that are worth good amount of money...and guess what....I actually had them....and now I'm kicking myself in the butt because those three Barbies could of helped me out a down payment on a house..or buy a new car....but being me..as soon as I got Barbies..I took them out ..I would throw away the boxing and within hours of playing with it..her shoe would be missing...... within a week her her hair would be cut...the curling iron in it.. hairsprays to make sure it stayed the way I styled it...oh and let's not forget the holes I'd put in her ears....eye brow...lip..nose....she needed earrings...oh markers for tattoos....I loved creating a whole new look... lol

I remember when I was a little. My dad took me to target and he brought me the slumber party Barbie and he also bought one for my cousin and the little girl that my mom babysat. I still have the Barbie and she was one of my favorite ones because my dad took me to the store and bought it for me. My dad is no longer around. He lost the fight to cancer back in 2016, but that doll reminds me of all the good time that I did have with my dad. My daughter will get to play with that doll one day when she is old enough.

Just lost a great uncle to stage 4 cancer. He had alot of pain in his side and went to the hospital and it was all over his body and in his bones. They gave him 2 weeks but sadly only made it 5 days. Prayers to your family.

Yes do the CBC. My son hadn't had one when he was the twins age. Until 15 and when he did we found out he has aplastic anemia. At first we thought it was cancer. Cbc is so important through out ur kids life.

Speaking from experience, root canals are so painful and just cost unnecessary money, if you enjoy candy like jolly ranchers they will pull out the implants and leave the area exposed resulting in having to have the tooth pulled anyways

You can do an implant when he is later in his teenage years. The choice of leaving them in is a good one. Just be sure to floss, waterpik and keep it super clean and they should last you a while.
I got my daughter this Barbie for her birthday when she was 4. We still have it along with hundreds of other Barbies. I was so ready to claim Barbie on my taxes because we had so dang may of them! LOL
