    Jess, you really need to see a maxillofacial surgeon. This is exactly the sort of thing they're trained for. They're even more used to dealing with facial nerves than dental surgeons. They're also the first people to be able to give you a nerve graft when it becomes available (if you need it). Please see a good maxillofacial surgeon. Do your research & find a good one. They will be the best chance of avoiding the nerve. For context, I'm a health scientist.

      I second this. I had 3 taken out when I was 26 (I was only born with 3) and the root of the one on the bottom was tangled up with the nerves. I went to a maxillofacial surgeon who was very well renowned in our area. He warned me of the risks, but I had such severe pain and swelling that I couldn't close my mouth! He operated once the infection and swelling in the gum had subsided. It was under general anesthetic, and he managed to do it without damaging the nerves at all.
      He was so gentle that I didn't even have the swelling that most people get with their wisdom's being done! About half an hour after I was out of surgery he had someone come and do Ultrasound therapy on my face, I still wonder if this is why I had no swelling. I was sent home with gel packs that mould to the face, and was fine within 2 days.
      If you're suffering with the pain (believe me, I know how debilitating it can be), try consult with a maxillofacial surgeon before making any decisions.

    I had the same issue with my lower two wisdom teeth! What my surgeon did was cut the crowns of the tooth off and left the roots in my jaw. I haven't had ANY ISSUES WITH THIS! I highly recommend it. It is more painful than a normal extraction but my roots wrapped around my nerve in my jaw.
    Good luck Jess!

    Hi 👋🏻 I’m an RDH in CA, used to be a DA and I had my wisdom teeth removed under anesthesia- they touched a nerve and I had some zinging on that side, but it went away over the first year and I am completely back to normal. It’s very common and rare that it will be lasting. Good luck!

    Jess this happened to me. I had my wisdom teeth taken out at 22 and my lips and chin were numb after. I went back lole 2 or 3 times and after about 3-4 weeks the feeling came back. It was scary but everyday I could almost feel less and less tinglyness. The pain almost isn’t worth it - you’ll feel better. I promise.

I did get a hole occur between the sinus, but it healed within 2 months. I had an amazing party trick for a few months with I drank it came out of my nose, but Ive had no problems since. UK here xx

    Hey, I almost had the same thing with my wisdom teeth. I live in the Netherlands and in these situations they often just remove the crown and leave the roots behind. The roots may still cause problems later, but the chances are small. I don't know if that is also a possibility in America, but you can always discuss it.

    I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 25. I was in a similar situation where a nerve was very close to my wisdom teeth. When I had them taken out, I had lost feeling in my tongue, lower lip and the right side of my chin. However, after a few weeks that all started to clear up. My dentist said that my nerve was only bruised in the wisdom teeth removal process and like any other bruise, it healed. My dentist told me that if my nerve were to have been cut open, then I would have probably lost all feeling in my tongue, lips and chin. It's a hard decision to make, but I just hope you choose what's best for you and your health.❤️

    Hey Jess. I had jaw surgery in 2007 and they damaged that same nerve you’re talking about. I have permanent nerve damage. My lower lip, chin, and bottom teeth-I have feeling but my nerve is “confused” I can’t tell the difference between sharp and dull, hot or cold, everything feels like pins and needles. It’s manageable. It’s been almost 20 years. But not something I would dismiss, definitely something to consider when weighing your options. Hang in there!

    You may not see this at all !!!!!
    But I’m 24 and had the same issue with my wisdom teeth. I got them taking out last year. I don’t remember what the term is called but since the roots of my wisdom teeth where twisted in with my nerves my dr said that they can cut off the top part of my tooth and leave the roots. He said that the roots will not cause any other issues and that bone will grow over them like normal.
    So far I have had no issue and I’m glad I went this route because like you I was given 100% chance of damage if pulled the whole tooth.

I am a now 41 year old with one remaining bottom wisdom tooth that constantly gives me issues.Once a month (thanks to hormone fluctuations) I am stuck with excruciating and scream worthy pain. I had my three other wisdom teeth removed in my mid 20s with no issue only because they were all erupted and required no surgery. The fourth tooth has been half impacted since 16, has extremely long roots close to my sinuses, and is sideways. Due to time and money I have been putting off removing it for as long as possible. I encourage you to handle yours as soon as you can!

Every time a dentist takes out wisdom teeth they should get you to sign a consent form saying that there is a risk for temporary or permanent numbness to the lip, cheek and side of tongue due to the nerve, obviously some are a higher risk than others

      As a mom I can understand and sympathize with her for not wanting Tommy to live a couple hours away from her. It's her baby boy. She clearly loves her children. But...Chris IS his parent too. Being a father doesn't make him a second class parent. That's his baby boy too. He deserves to have that time and experience with his dad and same goes for Chris with his son. Tommy isn't a young child anymore, I think she really needs to consider that and put her own feelings aside for Tommy's benefit. Chris is a great Dad and deserves a chance, Tommy can always go back to his mom if he hates it.

    • @laurabenson4496
      @laurabenson4496 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with that in that the age Tommy is now means he is able to express his own interest and make his own decisions and if he’s clearly made a point about wanting to live with Chris I think she should allow him to at least try it because at the end of the day I see a mother and father on the same level so why has Chris had to spend all these years not seeing them much and his bio mum won’t just try it for a few months at least

    • @TAmber1213
      @TAmber1213 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KariN-or3sc yeah I definitely get where his bio mom is coming from although Tommy is now at the age where legally he can decide if they really wanted to bring it to court he'd have a say plus they did mention that like he'd be allowed to go see his mom just as much as he wanted or could but I think right now Chris and his mother have decided that like they need to make sure this is something that Tommy really really wants because it's just Tommy it's not big Caden as well and so I think what they're doing is good for Tommy telling him that the option is there but that they need to be sure that it's the right choice

    • @KariN-or3sc
      @KariN-or3sc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maeganporter6812 you don’t know what all has gone into this decision…maybe Tommy changed his mind when faced with the actual prospect of moving hours from his mom, brother, friends, etc. I don’t think it’s “just” his bio mom. That being said, she was given full custody for a reason. And Chris chose to move hours away when they were younger. He actually gets quite a bit of time with them considering that fact. He has them most of the summer and for extended holidays/spring breaks, etc. Is it the standard once a week plus every other wknd that he would have if he hadn’t moved? No…but he didn’t have to move, either. I think they’ve all done a really good job of keeping him close to the boys, and getting them to and from visits as often as possible.

  • @mompowers7187
    @mompowers7187 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Son just had wisdom teeth out. One jaw was 1mm thick so after we all freaked out thinking that he would end up with a broken jaw. The surgeon did a fairly new procedure where they cut the top of the tooth off and leave the root. They stitched it closed and it is healing just like the rest that were fully pulled out. The surgeon told us that the jaw may absorb the roots or the roots would come through like a regular tooth and then could be removed more easily if it happens. My son is 20 and he had fully formed roots. We had never heard of this before so you might want to check into it. Good luck!

    I comment this every time you talk about your wisdom teeth but the longer you wait, the greater your chance of nerve damage is. I ended up with nerve damage because I waited too long and my teeth grew in too much. My damage is in my lip chin and teeth

    I just recently had my wisdom teeth pulled too. It wasn't too bad, the first day sucked, I was so tired threw up a couple times (the dentist said it was fine) but I was fine the next day. The dentist pulled three of the wisdom cause they were really bothering me hurting real bad, the fourth was pulled in 2020 cause it was rotted out 🤮 so I know your pain, I feel you girl XD. If there is a specialist I'd go and do it. I don't know if you would be willing to travel, but I can give you my surgeon he was so good and may be able to help.

  • @MotherMuse
    @MotherMuse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jessica, omg that sucks, sorry you're going through it. I got my wisdom teeth out in the late 90's. I didn't love the process but it turned out fine. I didn't even know damaging the nerve from taking the teeth out is a risk, since everyone and their brother gets those teeth removed am i right? However, four years ago I had to get a cavity filled out a back molar and it was kind of big. Following that I started having these episodes of pain clusters on my jaw and cheek affecting the trigeminal nerve. It got so bad that every little thing triggered it, the breeze on my cheek, talking, chewing, brushing my teeth, my hair touching my face. After a few months it improved so much but in the process I started grinding my teeth in response to the pain. Four years later I grind them so bad that I've gotten gum issues.
    The worst bit is that instead of the crazy intense pain episodes (which only comes back occasionally) I now have periodic numbness that affects the whole left side of my face, including my lips and chin. It used to happen only sometimes but now I get that numbness episode a few times a week to several times a day. I guess the average is about once a day. I just have to wait for it to pass. Chewing gum sometimes help it pass sooner, dk why. Sometimes flashes of pain occur in areas that aren't numb. It usually lasts 30 minutes to an hour each time. But this has now gone on for years! All from getting a big filling. Not sure it was from the drill hitting the nerve or the injection, as some kind of permanent numbness apparently is a risk from novocaine, it says on the pamphlet. But the dentist wasn't sure. Apparently the nerve was damaged but in a semi-permanent way, as thank goodness! the feeling so far returns each time it goes numb. Not sure what the lesson is, since we need to fix (or better prevent!) cavities. This has definitely given me a fear of going to the dentist ever again. Not the dentist as a person, but doing anything that might make it worse or cause more harm than good.

    I had my wisdom teeth taken out last October and I am 37 years old. It was a very simple procedure that I was awake for. I had absolutely not issues. My husband just had his taken out last month. His were impacted and came in sideways as well. One of his was sitting extremely close to the nerve. He was out under for his procedure. His went very well and he had no complications. The pain afterwards is nowhere as near scary as they make it sound. It's just an uncomfortable feeling, no so much a painful one. We both only took the prescribed pain medicine for a couple of days. But I would definitely get them out. It will only get worse if you don't. We both got to the point where it was putting pressure on all of our teeth causing pain throughout our entire mouths. They were also causing tension headaches. I have absolutely no regrets having them out. I was like you constantly taking ibuprofen which is horrible for your kidneys and can cause cancer. It's been 10 months now and I haven't had any pain or headaches. Definitely a life changer.

    Jess, my wisdom teeth came in late, so I didn’t get them pulled until I was 20 y.o. Two of them were impacted as well: I had the same prognosis as you and actually had to go to a highly trained maxillofacial surgeon (instead of my dentist) to get my wisdom teeth out so that I wouldn’t end up with facial paralysis and/or nerve damage. It was scary to trust someone that I didn’t have a rapport with prior to my wisdom tooth surgery, but since he was recommended by my dentist, it made it less daunting and despite the risks, I had successful surgery and all four of my wisdom teeth were extracted (even though two had to be cut out of my jawbone in addition to dealing with my roots being close to important facial nerves. I did have to be given anesthesia along with gas and air and be put to sleep for the procedure (since it was more intricate than most wisdom teeth extractions), but everything went well and I had no lasting effects (aside from some pain and swelling post surgery… which is totally normal). ☺️

So I was nervous to do the other wisdom teeth, I went to a maxilofacial surgeon and I told him my worries and he ended up doing a coronectomy on me. They only removed half of that tooth. The bottom half has moved away from the nerve now and I could possibly have to go back in to remove that part too but it was soooo worth it. I went to someone out of network, but would do it again! Good luck, but I would recommend a second opinion.

    I don’t know how they do it in America, but in Finland they only ever remove wisdom teeth if they are inflamed, causing problems to other teeth or are too painful to keep. I’m 29 and they haven’t even hinted at wanting to pull them out. They will literally pull out the neighbouring teeth before they pull wisdom teeth, which is what they did to me. My tip as an almost monthly dentist visitor (I have a genetic dental disorder) is to try to avoid pulling them out, I’m sure there are options depending on what exactly your issue with them is. I’ve had small pieces of my gums cut off before when my wisdom teeth were growing out, so they wouldn’t rub against other teeth and cause pain or inflammation. Unless they’re too wonky and crooked to be useful teeth I would advise you to try anything else before pulling them! Plus, you have the advantage of not being scared of the dentist, so ask your dentist what the other options are 😄
    Due to my dental disorder I have lots of teeth issues anyway but they have even filled cavities in my wisdom teeth, just to avoid unnecessary risks by extraction. I have issues with my bottom right one currently, but they’re pretty determined to not pull it so we’ll see what happens lol.

    I have an impacted wisdom tooth on the bottom which got infected but my dentist still recommended I didn’t have it removed because of how close my nerve is. We treated the infection and I haven’t had any problems since. Is it sore because of infection or pressure from the tooth?

That nerve you were talking about that affects your lip/chin/teeth was hit during that surgery and it was numb for a week or two, luckily not permanent.♥️ Im sending good vibes 😊

    Jesss, I had jaw surgery 6 years ago and they had to cut bone around that nerve and stretch the actual nerve you're talking about that they mentioned. Something happened to the nerve on my left side and I lost feeling to my chin and lip and gums. It's just the left side for my chin and lower lip...I lost sensation to all my gums but I had upper and lower reconstructive jaw surgery.
    It's really not that bad though. It was annoying to get used to but the biggest thing that bothers me is brushing my teeth or getting a cleaning doesn't feel as great as it used to. Like you don't get that minty clean feeling. That's really the only thing.
    And I can still feel! Just reduced sensation and tingling. It's not bad though, you shouldn't worry about that.

    I just had my wisdom teeth removed (I'm 42) and one was attached to the bone and sinus cavity leaving the hole. My dentist stitched it up and put me on antibiotics. He told me to cough and sneeze with my mouth open so I don't put pressure on the sinuses, causing them to fall into the hole. The stitches came out 2 days later, and I've had no problems other than a little tenderness in the bone that it was attached to. He said it should go away over time as it heals. But I followed everything he said to do and have no problems.

    I lost feeling in the left half of my bottom lip and chin. It’s not as bad as you think! The first month or two it’s weird and it’s annoying, but after that, I didn’t even notice it anymore. I got them taken out at 18. It’s been 7 years now and I don’t even notice it unless I think about it. Slowly I have gained a little feeling so now I can feel pressure. It’s not as bad as you think. Just annoying at first

    I will be completely honest with you. I lost feeling in my nerve on the left chin, lip, and gum on the lower side. It eventually came back to where I can feel sensation, but not pain, hot, or cold.
    Honestly, it isn't bad at all! Sometimes the gums hurt when I brush, but I havent had an issue keeping them clean.
    The only problem I have is that I can't feel if I have food on my lip or chin. Easily fixed with a napkin between bites. 🤷‍♀️

    I had go get one of my wisdom teeth cut out when they pulled all four. I also had risk of nerve damage because of the way my nerves are at the bottom of my lip but my surgeon was amazing I didn't have any nerve damage and best decision was getting them removed. My wisdom teeth hurt more the day before my surgery and never hurt once after surgery. You will do great just listen to their instructions to avoid dry socket and make sure your keeping food out of the holes. You will do great! I lived off slushies and milkshakes the first few days. I didnt get my wisdom teeth taken out until i was in my mid twenties 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I had a dental hygienist hit a nerve with a needle and it made half of my tongue numb, I had no taste at all. The side of my face drooped and I constantly drooled. This continued for months and months. I still have the drool problem and this was a few years ago now. The dentist tried to tell me that this was impossible and that couldn't possibly happen from a shot. I was told from a dr that definitely could happen and they should have taken responsibility for it. It was horrible and still sucks.

    The US Classic for Artistic Gymnastics is currently on - you should watch it to learn more. Competitive Women's Gymnastics only has 4 apparatus where as Men's has 6. Women's contains dance elements where as Men's doesn't. Neither can really do what the other does, the only comparable apparatus is vault. You see videos of Simone Biles and a Male Gymnast doing the same vault

    All 4 of my teeth were impacted and growing sideways. I was put under and they removed all 4 at once two years ago. I had an issue with the same nerve. I lost feeling of the left side of my chin and lip. I got 95% feeling back. Honestly? It’s not too bad. I only notice it when I try to notice the difference between the two sides. It’s been two years though, so I’ve gotten used to the feeling. I guess it depends how badly they get damaged. Fingers crossed they aren’t damaged to the full extent.

    I got my wisdom teeth removed in March and my tongue is numb on my right side but the feeling is coming back. I’m 36 and had it done when I was 35. My sister had to have implants put in because all her teeth needed to be pulled. They had to build her jaw up with bone graft and when they did all this, her nerves were hit and she couldn’t feel her face for about a year. The feeling came back because nerves will rebuild themselves. She had is done around 25 and now is 30 and has all her feeling back. She never lost control over her movement or anything. Also my teeth were super impacted and were in my sinuses too. I had bone graft done in all 4 spots. I had no issues with my sinuses. My only issues I had was that because my bottom teeth were so impacted, little pieces of bone were left behind and as the spot healed the left behind bone had to come out and caused a small infection on each side and I had to use a special mouth wash till the bone came out.

    So I had all four of wisdom teeth taken out 6 years ago. Bottom teeth were coming in sideways impacted like yours. I had some mild nerve damage. By that I mean, only half of lip and half of my chin tingling/ slight numby feeling. It was my bottom left side where the nerve was damaged. I don't notice it now really, it's so faint unless I run my finger across my lip. So it's gotten better but not 100% gone. But like I said I barely notice now.

    I have a pretty crazy nerves situation in my mouth, too (and also bone connections to the teeth to make it crazier) but I have never heard my dentist to tell me that could be a problem when pulling wisdom teeth out, she is a surgeon dentist, though, so maybe try a specialist??.... to make you feel better, I had all my wisdom teeth removed and all four teeth that follow in the row (here they call them number seven? So now my teeth end with number 6) and I was totally okay, nothing happened even tough they all were to the side not even straight position :) 8 procedures (year by year I got them out one by one) and nothing happened....The US is so weird when it comes to wisdom teeth :D in Europe people keep them until they can, if they dont bother you, you can be 50 if you want and keep them, my mom still has some of them and she is over 50. Nobody tells you to remove them when you´re 15-16...I got them removed probably somewhere between my 20-25 years, every year one got extracted, they were full of (fixed)cavities after years, I have a small mouth so was happy to get rid of them, also, nobody in Europe gets them removed all at once :D and they only use numbing injections, no anesthesia. Obviously for some people it is a bigger deal but still, America is crazy compared to Europe when it comes to this.
