For starters (ha ha) you unmated the ecu from the car now the VIN is different in the ecu. You could have easily soldered the key ring wires to the old security module and spent a WHOLE LOT LESS on used modules. Third: there is probably a voltage drop on one of the high current connections for the starter or battery circuits. Everything is nice and bright until you try to draw more than 10 or 15 amps then system voltage drops to around 6 to 8 volts by the look of it. Sure up the high current wires ( thick ones) look for burnt connections on b+ junction box (possibly in trunk too). Starter could also be seized but there is less possibility of that. I am an electronics tech at Lockheed with 32 years experience and a DIY car guy too.
I would highly recommend you get a 38 pin Mercedes diagnostic tool to analyze the modules in an older Mercedes like this. It's a very valuable thing to have for saving time and money on diagnosing any trouble codes that are not available via OBD2. I have the Foxwell NT520 Pro with 38 pin multiplexer, and it's a really awesome tool for the price. It's $200 on Amazon right now and it's by far the cheapest 38 pin Mercedes diagnostic tool on the market! I'm really enjoying your videos, I can't wait to see how far you will go!
Thanks! I do have a 38 pin tool with the Chinese version of the Mercedes software. It guided me to the immobilizer not communicating with the ECU. I’m charging my laptop tonight and will scan the car tomorrow.!

Well that really sucks. After all that spent for the ecm, immobilizer, and key, and it still won't start. I know what I'd do. Keep the battery and any other parts you need for another car and send that bitch to the crusher! And I'd give the guy twenty bucks to let me pull the lever to start the crusher! 😜
I swapped the instrument pod in mine thinking that it would be an easy fix. Nope! The instrument pod had to be reprogrammed. After much consternation, the original instrument pod was shipped off for repair. Never got the replacement pod to work with the car....$600 lesson learned. Oh my, education can be expensive.
It would seem that you got only two out of three potential problem parts. Try to get the sensor ring on the ignition lock complete with the harness for it. That way, all parts of the immobilizer circuit will match. Failing that, you may have to hook the car up to a scan tool to match all three parts, but I have the feeling the sensor ring and/or it's harness may well be the problem.
The way it clunks when you turn the key sounds like a starter issue, or a locked motor. Have you spun the motor by hand? If so I'd check the starter as well. Perhaps the start error is due to the starter not being able to spin the engine?
When I first bought the car the engine would crank while the instrument cluster displayed Start Error. It sat for a month or so while I ordered the new key. So you could be right! I’m going to try and turn the engine by hand and see what happens. Thanks for the help!!
I read online about a similar problem on another W140. The guy said it turned out to be an issue with a fuse on the instrument cluster. That’s a new one to me! But I’ll look into it.

The engine may be not able to turn over on its own, a good way to tell is to try to turn the crank over clockwise by hand with a long ratchet. Hopefully the engine isn't locked up, but it's a possibility. It didn't display a start error before the swapped PCM/immobilizer module, and the temp sensor is disconnected. I would check the cylinders for any signs of head gasket/head warping issues, such as coolant in cylinders or wet plugs.
Well, in this case, the starter motor should run, the fuel supply won't let the car start. Maybe the engine is jammed for some reason. Try disconnecting the belt and see if you can turn the engine by hand, a little bit is enough to know that engine is not seized.

Is it possible this was a Buy-Here/Pay-Here car? If so, it could have a secondary unit installed that has shut things down due to the battery dying or being disconnected. Same symptoms as my 2006 Nissan Maxima had.
I’ve looked under the dash and didn’t see anything. I did find a tracking unit on the red convertible I call Son of Satan. That car has had a crazy past. I did a video today with it and got so mad I had to stop. I actually kicked the car and broke a tool!

My windshield has leak 99 S320 same color, an it wet my gear shift was getting wet. Then it caused my car not to crank. Lights turned on but when I turn to start, would do nothing... it dried out about a week an started right up after I saw your video an wiggle an unplugged the clamps on that box order the hood on passenger side ECU.... It rained again an now same issue. My question is, if the gear shifter germs wet, will it cause car not to crank (safety switch)

Sounds like starter is trying to spin engine.. All lights dim, so meaby starter is trying to get power. Try to turn motor a bit. If starter solenoid does not go all the way the flywheel...

Absolutely! Find an old socket that’s close to fitting but a little smaller than the locking lugnut. Hammer it on good. Then tighten the other lug nuts just a bit so they are tighter than the locking one. When you tighten the others, you take a bit of pressure off the locking one. Remove the locking lugnut first. Then remove the others. Use pliers to remove the locking lugnut from the socket. Then repeat 3 times!!

I have the start error also. I started by going to a Mercedes dealership and having a new key made. They don't make the flip type keys anymore...they are like a valet key now...just flat and no chip is visual. It didn't start my car though. So I'm back at step 1. When hooked up to a scan tool...it throws no errors except something with the transmission. I'm dumb founded at what it might be.

the motor sounds like it is seized they way the starter sounds,i turned the vol right up and you can hear it the solid hit of the starter

You should be able to program those with a diagnostic tool. I've had great success with my Autel. Programming my Honda keys and ECU's
I don’t have Autel. I have MBIi and a laptop with the Chinese version of scanning software.

There are electrical connectors at the gear shift. Yes.
You got to wait 2 min with key on posestion. And let the ecu talk to eacthother

I’d say fuel issues. Have you checked the filter or look to see if fuel is making it up to the engine? How long will it run before it dies?
Monkey Wrench Mike we changed the fuel pump and filters already. It would just start up and shut down. Literally runs for a couple of seconds
