    That is a ton of detail for going under a painting!

      Not really. The drawing is quick and helps me to get a sense of how I want the painting and composition to look. The charcoal can be easily wiped off with a rag or even my sleeve. So I'm never really precious about it. And I get it done in less than an hour, so it saves me from literally days of messing around with mistakes made in paint.
