I continue the "How to Twirl a Baton" series with the "Novice Baton Twirling" segment by teaching the first steps to learning finger twirls, in particular 4 finger twirls, in the right and left hand. This move is great for new twirlers because it starts working on basic hand eye coordination and wrist/finger flexibility with twirling. This twirl is also the starting point to learning more difficult moves in the future.
I go over this trick step by step making sure to go over proper body work and technique.

I attempted, I caught on pretty fast! Great video! Still gotta practice to get faster, my grandmother will be so proud of me, because she can twirl a baton and asked me if I could and I had to tell her no! 😂 I have a sturdy plastic baton with rubber on the ends.

Tell me more about the grip in the middle of the baton please. What is it made of and called please
right is easy, left is head, broke my finger once and it set wrong so it's crooked slightly, just enough to make it very difficult
I can do a touse turn around can you I know how do do everything in twirling I'm in a group

Hello, i do color guard and slowly learning baton for fun. There is a trick called showers. It requires 2 batons in on hand. Toss one then before catching the one in the air you toss the other one. Could you do a video how to do them properly? Thanks!
I only have one problem, my fingers keep messing up me passing the baton onto the next finger... if that makes sense.

As a truck driver guy long haul I'd like to include n learn to do this as I do stretch exercises outside my truck at various stops across the country, rest areas, truck stops, etc.....any ideas what size baton n where to buy?

I knew how to do that before, but my only problem with it was my left hand, I can't control it properly, I can only manage the right hand

Im in colorguard and discovered the box of Majorette stuff my marching band has, and now I want to be one so here i am.
It depends on how far you want to go in the sport! If you are willing to practice and put in the work, I say become a baton twirler! Twirl on!

remember seeing those when I was younger but never dabbed in them I felt like one is more of a girl thing . I was kinda into bo staff but never really happened. Then I watched a video with Michelle C. Smith and I was like OMG that is freaking awesome. Now I'm really regretting that I can get into this at a younger age. You put a martial arts spin on this 🤘 yeah. Practically Jedis from Star wars 😂.
But yeah I actually went to home Depot and bought a few poles going to get them all fancied up and start working on this. God I can already feel the concussions coming 🤞😂.
But yeah this is pretty cool stuff much respect to the art and to all the people that dab in it.

Try to open you hand up more and not only have your plan facing the sky, like mentioned in the video, but also have your individual finger tips facing the sky. Hope this helped!

What would you use in competitive twirling? My 8 year old had a competition this past weekend and was dinged on finger twirls. I'm trying to figure it out.
It is probably because there was a break in the flow of the baton. When I was first competing, I did this twirl in my first two fingers in my right hand (while facing wall 8) and then I would trap the baton in the web between my middle and ring finger, while turning my hand over and pushing the baton back through my first two fingers.

I want to learn how to twirl, but do you have to know how do flips and be flexible to be able to compete
(I know this is late...) Not at all!! It is sometimes helpful to have a background knowledge of the basic dance/ gymnastics technique, but I am soooo not flexible and have no background information in gymnastics/flips, however I've been twirling for 7 years!! Good luck!

Yes and no....you dont have to do flips, but it does make you stand out. And Yes be as flexible as possible!
I wish people would stop using music in the background of their videos if they are going to be talking. yours got quieter as you talked but it was too loud in general. if I turn the volume down I can't hear you talk. Your instructions are very clear though.
