    This is so much more entertaining than actual national/international competition. Great players, great commentary(trash talk), hardly ever ends in a draw.

    Good luck beating hikaru when he has a minute or more on the clock, but imagine being so good that you take hikaru to the point where he only has a slight adv of your doubled pawn structure.

    I looked at the philidor counter gambit game, and Hikaru lost in this opening with black to a guy rated 200 points lower than him in 2010, according to Lichess database Which is why, I imagine, he knows it so well

      He needs to restore his image after the chessbae affair and he is doing it in the best way possible, making himself available to 'normal' players - as you said - and committing in the classical format arena after a two years hyatus. The guy is a fighter, no doubt about it.

      Well, I don't think bxc3 would ever happen. It would be losing to take back the pawn right away, and instead white can win a rook in multiple ways.

    We have some old chess players and they always look down to young players. They know everything even when we beat them down but in their youth they couldnt even achieve NM.

    Yea, It was a good fight. He was playing till pretty deep endgame. There is a huge difference between an amatuer player even a lot experienced and masters, GMs.

    Hikaru could ve used the french move pawn to h2 and win the game faster at 7:15 right? Instead of playing bishop to a3

      you've got your sides of the board wrong I believe. That's the A pawn, and the bishop moves to h3, not a3. As for en passant, it isnt possible here. A pawn cannot capture another pawn en passant unless the opponent's pawn moves in line with your pawn. To put it more simply, Hikaru's pawn was one square too far to en passant.

      No, en pessent is only allowed when the pawn lands next to yours.

    This is a genuine question: Is trash talking like....a part of chess culture? I see a lot of videos of guys talking trash to him but he is always so calm and focused. Is street just just like...jovial trash talk that doesnt ACTUALLY mean anything but Hikaru is classically trained and therefore more posied? or like are these people just genuinely rude and hikaru is polite?
