@Redditor6079 it reminds me when choosing one that compromises having more mobility in exchange for another stat If I can recall correctly, Tanner mentioned in a video what stats on each weapon (including Devils Claw) can have less of a stat yet still be effective. I forgot if it is supposed to be less of Cleave Targets or Damage, because the Finesse and Cleave Damage stats are more important for its type of Melee weapon. If having less of Cleave Targets or Damage in order to have a higher Mobility stat, there may be better results. On the other hand, Mobility has some of its odd factors where even in its lowest stat seems to show close to maximum, so I see where you mean how its Mobility is pretty crummy. Reasons Stamina and Stamina Regen are so important for Curios
@Batlord_Carcas Dodge distance and sprint speed are usually what I look for on a high mobility weapon. You're right, the mobility stat itself is _usually_ a dumpstat and rarely changes a "bad" mobility weapon into a good one. My go to "high" mobility weapons are Tac Axes, Dueling Swords, and Combat Knives, depending on which staff or gun I'm running as Psyker one of those three types are usually my go-to.
Last patch changed the "flak rager" to have carapace armor on the chest, which might be of note to comment on as it can somewhat change how you want to engage them. Newbies might not realize how much more important landing headshots on them is now, especially if doing the whole "gun them down" thing. Since most ranged weapons are ass against carapace lol. I’ve been playing Darktide for like 2 days at this point and have just been trying to land headshots with zealot throwing knives when I see these things thanks for the guide.
A convenient trick is while dodging if you have the Bolter, you can use the Bolters hip fire crosshairs to have improved sight aim for the throwing knives, and also there is the bug where the (Bolters) Puncture Blessing (if you have it on the Bolter) procs Bleed stacks for the Throwing Knives. Alongside this, with having the Bolter ready, can aid in dispatching these pesky Ragers (especially the Scabs since they now have the Carapace on body, flak on head) when low on the quantity of Throwing Knives
@thegreatazal5021 Bolter works well even with firing off a couple of shots at a time (to maintain Stability). If you aren't using a momentum build you can go Surgical + Puncture to manage ADS fire effectively, hip fire is good when going nuts on Crushers more. Puncture and Pinning Fire is good for general best Blessings, whereas Shattering Impact is more geared towards Crushers and Monstrosities. Combat knife was good yet Dueling Sword has become the go-to as its role with critical damage and reach has been an advantage as of lately. Tanner has the latest preferred Zealot build on his channel with the Bolter and Mark 4 Dueling Sword, the build is optimal in talents.

Spam pinging a rager horde that has no visual indicator so I can tell where it is is good, spam pinging a dog with a giant red triangle over you and I already know your ass got dogged and I can't do anything about it is bad. The pinging isn't the part that's a problem, its the way shitters use it when they're bad.

Creature spawner has made me a much better player. From boss soloing to facing 50 rangers at once just for fun (and winning), the experience is invaluable.
Would be nice to see you melee large rager packs with a shorter range/lower stagger/lower attack speed weapon. Large rager packs with duelling sword don't bother me much (let's be honest no elites can bother you much with a duelling sword) but it's when I'm running tac axe or something that I really find them challenging in large groups. Maybe the answer is just not to try and melee big groups of ragers with some weapons though...
"Maybe the answer is just not to try and melee big groups of ragers with some weapons though..." Yup. That meleeing them in a 'fair' way is already a lot worse than shooting or stunlocking them points to this. Ragers should be handled like Indiana Jones vs that one guy with a scimitar.
Indeed. Ragers are meant to be challenging melee elites that cause difficulty in some scenarios (short low mobility, low stagger melee against groups), but become trivial with the right choice (shoot their face). It's like how crushers are polarizing in their own way. They are hard to block or facetank, but are weak against dodging and psykers
@@LazyMaybe That's pretty much how I handle them, if veteran then I'm constantly looking into the distance even with swarms around to make sure I can pick off Ragers, Flamers, Trappers, Pox Bursters, Hounds etc well early. Problem eliminated before any of us has to deal with it.
tbh dodging and stagger is in the tutorial, but they don't necessarily stress the importance of dodging for distance against melee specials like ragers.
First off i'd like to mention that i've seen small patrols that consist of about 2 - 4 bruisers (minor melee enemies that typically wield a mace) following a single rager around so no they don't always spawn in packs.
Honestly the game doesn’t do enough to onboard new players and teach them the absolute basics of melee combat. The tutorial level tells you one single time how to block etc but that’s it and it lasts about 1 second.
Wanted to add something to the video about a particular weapon and thing that I do frequently. I use the combat blade as my primary melee weapon and I've found that it has a fast enough block stab with bleeds to deal with up to 4 ragers without taking damage. Yes, this requires good timing and some practice, but it's less mechanically intensive than most weapons to deal with ragers. Just throwing out an alternative since it wasn't mentioned, but it does still involve diagonal dodge mechanics to do easily. The combat blade having insane mobility makes this a really good practice option for people to bridge the more intensive mechanics and timing of other weapons as well as just being a solid melee in general.
I main shieldgryn and barely even notice these guys 90% of the time, switching to any of my other characters really makes me appreciate how delicately you gotta handle them sometimes. Heavy attacks with the shield and that nasty 250% increased push talent makes ragers, bulwarks and crushers feel like non-issues. I kinda wish armored ragers were more common, they feel way less annoying than the dreg ragers and yet almost never show up, but that might just be my personal experience.
The 'slot' thing is something I wasn't consciously aware of. I'd just been dodging that way after getting whupped enough times to learn what works and what doesn't, now I know the why lol
I know this is super specific, but if you rev a greater chainsword against a rager, you can stun them in place, usually i do this against hordes, where i zealotry charge first to pre-damage the weaker enemies, then specifically hit the rager with a rev that stuns him and insta-kills, get a damage boost from killing him to kill the other enemies. You can swap up to rev to finish off some of the other elites if you happen upon them. Its a really reliable strategy when you want to go pure melee fanatic! Stun grenades are also great. I know this reads like "The guy who only plays Zealot" but thats cause ive only played zealot so far
I'm a fairly new player and I found that as well, soon as I unlocked the eviscerator the rev attack became my friend for dealing with a whole bunch of specials, I usually play veteran but Zealot instantly became my favourite class for melee mayhem.
I'm sure somebody else has said it already but map awareness is paramount. You can't do any of this stuff if you dodge yourself into a corner or even just get stuck on some crates or other crap lying around.
Playing as veteran, the devil's claw sword is must have aginst this guys. The counterattack after parry have saved me dozen of times from maniacs, but also plague ogryns, mutants and even a demonhost.
Also they die instantly to parry on most blades that have it. Split them apart and kite them as is explained here but basically take one block to deflect their first attack and right off the block hit the special attack key to start the parry animation, their attack hits it, instant behead kill. Bear in mind my info on swords with parry is out of date, I think I last used one of those blades in the summer before I switched to power sword on Vet, so it may have been changed in patches.
I'm over 1000 hours into DT and I get value out of videos like this. I could handle Ragers before but now I am better prepared. Please. New recruits. Pay attention. I need you to stop dying so much. I can't carry you that hard :(
I miss vermintide ragers where they would jump and loop their attacks so you had openings while fighting them. Darktide ragers just feel static and obnoxious to fight by comparison. Like your goal is to turn them off instead of fighting them.
When your teammate has Ragers on them pinged, bloody well kill them and don't let your teammate spend 10 seconds blocking until they die. Various melee weapons can also stun them, usually with heavy attacks. I think Heavy Eviscerator can stun them even on light attacks. Much easier to do when you aren't the one they're attacking, of course. I used to hate these things so much, they were my number one cause of death when I started out in Darktide, and the reason I started stacking Block Efficiency on curios.
Shout out to my single melee psyker friend out there somewhere. Assail knocks these guys out of their combo animations so if you're trying to keep that malefic momentum going don't be afraid to toss a few before engaging a group of them. Just remember to take the one that lets assail hit multiple targets.
The worst case scenarios is having a bunch of ragers be body blocked by a bunch of crushers or bulwarks. Because dodging the ogryns is easy peasy, bring them out bh the dozen. But when you have those over heads to worry about and those combo swings from the ragers trying to poke through, oh baby it can get out of control fast. Best case scenario, not everyone on your team is not engaged in melee, and ideally people use their blitz well on big hordes and just absolutely dump into hordes that allies are kiting. Especially during hold your ground parts, if you ever feel like you aren't seeing much, maybe check on your teammates and understand why it seems like you don't have much in front of you to shoot. Odds are, your teammates would very much appreciate you helping with whatever group of elites and specials are trying to currently kill them. Be a good teammate. If you aren't killing things and there are things to be killed, kill things. Please. Also, please do not shoot bursters if they are very close to allies. The past few days have been either being victim or witnessing bad behavior around bursters. The shove is the safest and most reliable way to deal with them. Don't shoot them unless it is a stray, loose spawn. During hordes, busters are actually quite useful.
Its crazy how ive never considered ragers a problem. Like their attack pattern locks them in place, theyre easily staggered, and in general youre going to have manaic and flak as mods.
I find the combat axe does really nice against ragers in general, because the shove attack has really good stagger, and the secondary attack also has very good stagger
Thank you for this. I'm a newish player and I enjoy playing with my kids. These videos are helping me from embarrassing them in lobbies. Any chance of you doing an updated Psyker skill tree explanation video?
@1:31 @TannerLindberg serious genuine question, what mods/scripts/etc do you use to protect from carpel tunnel and RSI? I'd like to protect myself before the problems start.
Hey Tanner could you explain the combo press for the glide with a charged heavy like you do at 6:10? Ive seen some peeps do it in games for crazy distance but havent recreated it myself. Big ups on these vids, theyre great

ok BUT WHAT IS THAT FLASHLIGHT, where can i find gad damn, also i love spam pings, just dont bind it to left click thats an amount of spam that is insufferable lmao
Best rager practice? Boot up VT2 and try to play that game not knowing your melee combos and the enemies attack animation. You will die a painful death, learn to melee or inspect the ground
And here I thought they were called Rangers. It didn't make any sense. But every time they appear, one of the characters is like "get the ranger". I shoot them. They die quick.
we all use ds4 now if we have any doubts about our team but knife mark 6 is/was so good against them. If one bitchslap and do the strikedown, if many your first 2 heavies will fuck them up. On zealot anyway. On Vet it was always and then I pull out my gun/shredder
people don't like it when you ping things? i think everything i can! a habit i picked up from Deep Rock Galactic the absolute worst is when i ping a sniper and i have nothing to use against him. so im just dodging his shots with tears in my eyes.
You can bind pings to keys so you can immediately ping without using the comm wheel. I think there's even baked into the base-game for one ping on single tap and another on doubletap, but there's probably mods to give you more options.

Assail knocks these guys out of their combo animations so if you're trying to keep that malefic momentum going don't be afraid to toss a few before engaging a group of them.
Just remember to take the one that lets assail hit multiple targets.
"unload the emperor justice in the form of a full Boltor clip"
During hordes, busters are actually quite useful.
theyve vulnerable to flinches/stuns/knockdowns EXCEPT they usually dont care about shoves
Its crazy how ive never considered ragers a problem. Like their attack pattern locks them in place, theyre easily staggered, and in general youre going to have manaic and flak as mods.
You should not put maniac on melee weapons almost ever
@TannerLindberg what's the go to these days, carapace and unyielding?
For real the lasgun bayonet is absolutely monstrous against them.
ragers hunt in packs
Rejects too. At least if they're not the kind that runs off...
I find the combat axe does really nice against ragers in general, because the shove attack has really good stagger, and the secondary attack also has very good stagger
Although, then again. so does the dueling sword on it's standard stab attack
Psyker - Force Sword - Dodge forever - Auric and Havoc you can Kite forever
I always felt like I didn't understand how to counter these guys, much better informed now
at least these guys do not have initial frenzy attacks, so i think it is a lot more fair
Hey Tanner could you explain the combo press for the glide with a charged heavy like you do at 6:10? Ive seen some peeps do it in games for crazy distance but havent recreated it myself. Big ups on these vids, theyre great
It is dodge into slide for big Iframes
As a veteran I love these guys, as a zealot I fear these guys, as a psyker i shit violently
How to deal with ragers:
1. Press shift+s
2. Press Q
3. Press shift+s again
4. Press m1
Repeat steps three and four until desired outcome.
That's incredible
Auric Missions
A:I Director: Sending the 12 Ragers
Also A:I Director: They seem lonely, send another 12 on top of the first 12 Ragers with 4 Poxbursters and a pack of pox hounds.
Appreciate the info. Wondering what you need a visualized dodge counter for though? Coming from some years of vermintide, on console tho so no mods and I kinda got used to work jumps into my dodge patterns to reset.
Bro i encounter about 15 or more at one point we had a "patrol" of them and then a few more decided to spawn for good measure.... And yes we all died because it was in a closed area and a nice gas bomber decided to also spawn in.
could I trouble you to post your mod list txt in the description? Really love the guide, thank you
Hey, really informative, thanks for this!
3:28 too real lmao
redoing this series too? hell yeah
Push
stagger
swing on em
there ya go
Haha lightning goes BRRRRRRRZT
I only have one problem with the ragers.. it's the non stop combo.
Most fun way to beat ragers: Devil's Claw parry
Keep the vids coming big Tan Tan
is there a way I could your hud layout config, like a config file of the mod or something
My question is how in the hell do you get weapons with 80 percent in every aspect?
Great video thanks
ok BUT WHAT IS THAT FLASHLIGHT, where can i find gad damn, also i love spam pings, just dont bind it to left click thats an amount of spam that is insufferable lmao
SuperFlashlight mod probably on nexusmods.
@@prawn1545 awesome thank you ! ill give it a sus
3:24 thats so effin true 😅
Forget any improvements to UI by fatshark.
can't wait for the basics against 6 bulwarks as a zealot ^^ (thx for the hint)
I still have a question about ragers, why are they so mad?
Best rager practice? Boot up VT2 and try to play that game not knowing your melee combos and the enemies attack animation. You will die a painful death, learn to melee or inspect the ground
Can we get a happy version of the Rager who will hug you?
That's the trapper.
What are the hud mods youre using called
Wish I could do mods on console 😢. Hard to do harder difficulties on console imo.
Plz i cant tanner my lindberg much longer
Eighty Fucking Ragers.
Thanks Tanner :)
And here I thought they were called Rangers. It didn't make any sense. But every time they appear, one of the characters is like "get the ranger". I shoot them. They die quick.
Heavy sword go brrr
3 brawlers spawn:doable
3 brawlers spawn with 3 ragers tailing behind: time to go back to spawn
Yeah, Ragers really become lethal when they have elites shielding them from damage
Muted?
I feel like an idiot when I try to do this the hundredth time. B')
we all use ds4 now if we have any doubts about our team but knife mark 6 is/was so good against them. If one bitchslap and do the strikedown, if many your first 2 heavies will fuck them up. On zealot anyway. On Vet it was always and then I pull out my gun/shredder
people don't like it when you ping things?
i think everything i can! a habit i picked up from Deep Rock Galactic
the absolute worst is when i ping a sniper and i have nothing to use against him. so im just dodging his shots with tears in my eyes.
how do you even spam ping like that? When I open the comms wheel while fighting those guys I'm deader than dead
You can bind pings to keys so you can immediately ping without using the comm wheel.
I think there's even baked into the base-game for one ping on single tap and another on doubletap, but there's probably mods to give you more options.
Make video about gun psykers with new sword luv ❤
