My first console was a Nintendo Wii and I used to play TF out of Parallel lines on it, way before I ever got the chance to play any of the GTA’s. So underrated
The era change cutscene still give me chills to this day
Yep, I like to re-watch it on TH-cam once in a while. The moment when TK says "10 227 days and I didn't waste a single one" and the song starts playing is what makes it one of the coolest cutscenes I've seen in any game.

I mean this game was made as a direct GTA competitor with not much unique mechanics. I understand when people don't like when Mafia games are called GTA clones because they are much more serious story-focused games which are linear and not really open world (let's just ignore the existence of the 3rd game for now). But D:PL is literally a GTA clone and deserves to be called one. After all if no one introduces enough distinguishing traits to their game why shouldn't it be called a clone of the most successful similar game? There's been enough games in other genres that were also called clones of some other game until developers figured out how to make unique games in similar genres. And that's why 3rd Mafia also deserves to be called GTA clone. It became too similar to it.
Any game that is a open world story driven shooter/arcade racing mechanics is a gta clone.
Gta did it first.
And nothing can compete with gta anyway its a pop culture icon and staple. Household name for over 2 decades. Nothing can bring that down except itself. Which it's doing

It's funny because you rarely ever hear people say such things in any other types of genre nowadays except for the "modern day open world crime" types of games. You almost never hear the word clone being thrown around in FPS, fighting, MMO or racing games communities for example.
I get that GTA was in a league of it's own compared to most other competitors on the market but i honestly wish if there were more "gta-like" games on the market since GTA and Saint's Row are among my favourite series ever made. Unfortunately, Rockstar Games is now a former shell of it's past while i have no hopes for the new Saint's Row game reaching anywhere near the first two games.
Rockstar Games Actually Roasted the Driver game by offering a mission in GTA 3 known as the "Two Faced Tanner ".

And they make the protagonist from the driver trilogy running like a woman in gta3 mission

They also roasted Driver in GTA SA, there's a mission called "Madd Dogg's Rhymes" in which there's a guy playing Driv3r and he says "How could Refractions mess up so bad?" and "Tanner, you suck ass!". Refractions meaning Reflections. They are mocking Driv3r's poor reception when it released
When i listen "One Way or Another" this game comes to my mind and it feels so good, thanks Driver and Blondie.

I have fond memories of this game as a kid. My parents forbid me from getting any GTA game but bought this game accidently (for wii) just because of the cover 🤣🤣🤣. Yeah they were not too impressed with the shooting mechanics.
Unfortunately I had it for Wii and the shooting and driving mechanics were wonky at best.
Strict parents, huh? I played GTA as a kid and mine didn't give a crap. But, it's bad if they do it even now.
@@heavenlanes5598 yep ikr. I'm guessing the Hot-Coffee "scandal" was the reason why they hated GTA and other violent/innaproprate video games of my childhood.
thankfully, they got less strict as I aged (no longer cared what I played around the time Blackops 1 came out) and now all grown up, I have experienced more mature games like GTA V and IV (still need to set aside time for SA and VC).
@@adamk9652 Hot Coffee was a third-party mod released on the Dutch GTA mod site if I recall correctly, and the media bashing SA and Rockstar because of it was kind of an overreaction. It looked official by the coding, but the mod looked like a genuine thing.
@@heavenlanes5598 Yes and no. It's in the games code but it's a cut feature. Modders just added it back in they didn't create it.
The code to the "hot coffee mod" was also in the recent GTA SA definitive edition release.
Parallel Lines actually was a pretty good game imo. I love how it captured that 70's essence (especially with a wonderful soundtrack) and also most of the missions from that era, very action-packed(ish).
The 2nd part of the game was just fine, I liked that we eventually got a revenge on those dudes. The car physics were decent at best, if only I could say the same about the walking.
Overall I had a lot of fun playing this on my PS2 back in the day, as much fun as playing the GTA Trilogy.
This is my favorite game in the entire driver series. Great story, open world, has the same physics with the older driver games and Great customization.
Also I like the era changing in the storyline. It was a creative move.
Of course it has bugs and lots of stupid logics but it was great game for me.
I have Driver Parallel Lines CD and not gonna lie, i love it.

love the traffic in this game, is dense but there is almos allways a window, you can even push them a little to fit between and the car handling is pretty fun, when you are in a chase, you can make police crash not only pushing them, but since they follow, you can go through a closing space or a hard sharp maneuver and they crash, that is more fun than just overrunning them, you can go with your car clean, is sooo satisfying
Imagine a game that combines the story of Driver SF, the freeroam capability of GTA, the hacking abilities of Watch Dogs (Possibly using Tanner's shifting capabilities as hacking). That might be my dream game since I'm a big fan of open world games
Honestly i like how the game has a, jump in time and it changes all the cars, guns, NPC's and even the City somewhat, along with the hud and even songs.
There is credit to be given plus the fact its more polished than Driver 3. Shame no boats, that was kinda fun that Driver 3 expanded the vehicles you could drive.
Don't know if id say its fanstastic, its defo better than 2 and 3 but 1 and San Francisco? Eh dunno, id have to try Driver 76 too and maybe think about it more.
Since Kuru already played Parallel Lines, I hope you also try Driver '76 the Spin-off Prequel of Driver Parallel Lines from POV of Rey
I liked this game a lot. I still play it occasionally. I don't really do the main missions though, that way I'm forever stuck in the 70's. Great music, great cars, unique vibe to it.
when you finish the game you can choose between missions and eras, you can choose if you want to free roam in the 70s or 2006.

For me is the worst Driver (still a good game though) precisely because is the most similar to a GTA, kinda felt different than the old entries (even with guns, Driver 3 was the last oldschool Driver). Still, calling any Driver game a GTA clon, is a fricking crime.

@@Don_Ramiro Agreed, I grew up with PL so I have a lot of nostalgia for it, but after playing Driv3r I did actually prefer the driving physics of Driv3r more than PL, they felt more realistic whereas PL is a little more on the arcade side.

For PL - it definitely is... Yea driver did the open world stuff first but GTA took that idea and made it 100x better. DPL is objectively a GTA clone. Driver 1, 2, 3 and SF are proper Driver games.

Running over ppl was also a super fun thing to do lol... And the cutscenes looked super good at the time lol

Almost nobody knows that Driver San Francisco on Wii is actually based on Parallel Lines. Despite wonky controls it's still worth playing

I've owned this game for years and never played. I dug it out yesterday and it actually is fun to play. I don't know if it is the music or the cheesy dialog but what a blast.
What this game is, is amazing, I used play this all the time on my ps2 & psp, no doubt an amazing game 😀😎😎

Driver 3 used to swim and sailing boats except planes but driver parallel lines has gta liberty city feel but with big as san Andreas with more safe houses

nope, GTA 1 was published in 1997, but Driver 1 was first when comes to 3d graphics.
They are pretty close in release years. The original GTA came out like 2 years before Driver 1 but that was just a top down driving game. The GTA we know today where you can run around the city and wreak havoc was out before Driver 3. Prior to Driver 3, you couldn't really interact with the world outside of your car and use guns. Basically all of the gameplay elements and mechanics revolved around driving. After GTAs massive success, they basically copied the GTA formula for Driver 3.

I'm not sure but I remember playing this game a lot when I was a kid and I think there was a bug on the PS2 version that allows you to get unlimited ammo in the regular pistol if you stop your car and kill a cop before you complete the 1st mission

I used to play the Wii version of this a lot lol. Same game, but you aimed by pointing at the screen. Recently I noticed it was on Steam for cheap, so I bought it and played again lol.

Everyone saying that this game is a “GTA Clone” but in reality, Driver was the first game ever to create a third person open world game like this. Rockstar took that idea and made it into next level expandable game with GTA3. And Of course, GTA 3 won and we all see why.

People went crazy when driver 1 had a fully 3D open city. Then gta3 came out, and DUMBASSES kept comparing a CAR/DRIVING game to an open world game for no reason.
I have spend thousand of hours on this game on ps2. Damn it was so good.
There are even some valid arguments, that GTA could be a Driver-Clone as well.
Liberty City was a Vegas/NY inspired race track in Destruction Derby first.

@0:23 It is a great game in its own right. The bike controls are a little bit clunky. They tried to be more realistic by adding weight to the bike but either you go for simulation physics or arcade physics like GTA. There is no middleground.

My mom wouldn't let me play GTA till my dad got out of prison. 😂 But Driv3r/Parallel lines was a ok. When I brought this to my mom, instead of a touché, she took those too.

this was my childhood game and this game is 10 x better than gta san andreas.
When I bought the game way back, I thought:
1. Its silly how you cant jump so even a knee high fence would stop you.

Has anyone else found the portal easter egg? When i was like 12 (28 currently) i rammed into a wall by the Jersey City Ray's track going max speed in a sports car and the whole everything flipped out and all of a sudden started playing a rendered cutscene of a portal. It kind of looked like an eye, specifically the big ass eye in the sky from lord of the rings. Please im going nuts i even bought the game and a ps2 to figure this out lol
