I have a.65 post that I've had 35 years now. I really miss my 64 El Camino too. But always wanted a two door wagon the.most. But those things always sold for so much more even since the 80s when I bought my post (300 model Chevelle) Loving the build.
Tip. Wet the floor down to keep the dust down 👍👍🐚🍀🔥🇺🇸🇺🇸. Wet look low air pressure and slow passes , high air pressure and fast passes dryer look.your first couple of passes needed to be a little lighter just blow some color on it the first couple of passes. Last pass blow the color on just like you were doing it 👍( to avoid sags & icicle ) not criticizing just tips.
Love the color . Back in the sixty and seventy l had a 65 Malibu ss in the same color black interior and a killer smallblock. Won my share of street races.always missed that car so seven years ago l built a64 Malibu ss and painted it the same color with black interior and a killer smallblock l have turned down 35 thousand for it who says you can't go back in time,
It seems someone who can do everything well is more rare than someone who specializes in one or two things. Like the car and the color choice and can't wait to see the finished product.
I started out spraying single stage enamels and urethanes in the early 90's, in the training program at our local gollege we sprayed several gallons of DuPont Centari a week. Still have that crap on me I think. This vid took me back! Now I'M the bodyshop instructor teaching the newest stuff, but The old-school ways are still there for the DIY guys, especially with material and labor costs!
Cars look best when they've had reasonable care, parked outside, and are about 15-20 yrs old. Imperfect but easy to be proud of.. That's the sweet spot for me. I'm a single stage guy, I loathe peeling clear and like being able to compound and get down to fresh paint.
Another step closer...Eagerly awaiting the rest of the build! Oh, and great to see you back on Hot Rod Garage with Tony! It's no longer the Crown Hick; now it's the Crown Rehickulous!✌❤🙂
I love these "coupe-wagons!" Buddy of mine inherited his father's bought-new '65 300 DeLuxe Stingray. "Stingray" 'cos it came from the factory sporting a fuel-injected 365-horse 327!! Mark's Dad worked at {and later owned} a Chevy dealership, and this was the first new car he ever bought. Oh yes - it also came painted "Evening Orchid Metallic," which is a color {like "Butternut"} that you don't see too often.
Awesome, Lucky!!! I’ll be doing a very similar DIY paint job in my garage in 2022 on my truck so it was cool to see how you go about your diy paint job. Would be cool if you made this into a little series until the car is fully painted.
Hey Lucky, very nice, you are going to hate that glossy dash when your eyes get zapped by sun reflections. The dash should be a flat color so it is not reflective. I hope you have time to fix that before you get too far into the assembly.
Love the wagon! I’m putting a LS2 from a 2005 GTO into my 55 210 Handyman and I’m wondering if you can point me in the right direction in finding a wiring diagram? Cheers!
I understand that about the lungs on the ragged edge. Dude I had covid bad like you. But, I do build my own Transmissions and do paint and electrical work
Nice ride Lucky, {... thought ; that black textured spray for floors, its supposed to be durable. If your not doing carpet/ heat sound proof route. Hugh Mc - Chicago metro.
Despite you not. going for a Show car look and i totally get your reasons for that i’m 57 years old and i think the caris going to be a good looking car when you are done there is something about the older full size 2 Door Wagons that say Cool IMO even more so when they are Hot Roddenberry a little bit and that can even be something as simple as a set of Custom wheels or even a Sportier set the factory used on some other models i’m looking foward to seeing this one put together and completed
Hey, me as well. I was fortunate to get my 68 c10 swb at a great price. Got to do the usual , rockers, floors , corners. It's the 5th 67-72 I've owned over several decades. I would highly recommend buying very good paint and all the stuff to use with it. I have bought paint and supplies in the past and went cheap and got terrible results. It looked ok but looked like shit to me. When I bought high quality paint and supplies recommended at local paint supply I couldn't believe how good it looked and it held up nice. I'm a tech, not a body man or painter but that paint made me look good. Quality products spray better and lay down so much nice.
Most people turn the volume all the way up. When you do that you only do one pass before letting it flash off. You must have turned the volume way down using your technique. 👊👊
Nice episode! Always enjoy watching, you make it simple to understand.we were wondering out here in Wyoming if we will ever get to watch you work on Project X again?? While you are ripping all the electric power plant equipment out and putting in a big block?????
Asked to critique. Interior rear floor rust not addressed? I get it's a cruiser. Yet my thought process was why not evap o rust and then follow up as you did. What do I know. Most importantly it's not my ride. Have a great day.
I'd throw a cover over the Chevelle just for the heck of it 😃
Best show watching paint dry I’ve ever seen. I watched every minute.

Love the old wagon! 👍👍🤘🏻🤘🏻
Like old wagons got a 1964 Fairlane 500 wagon I got in 1971 and still have. Doing a restore now.
The old paint looks like etching primer...glad you are repainting it. You're a craftsman, it will come out great.
(Whispering ) Quiet please Lucky is painting looks really good its a DIY special....✌😆🙏

Great color !

Two-door wagons are very rare I wish it was mine

That wagon is looking pretty good can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done
Another step closer...Eagerly awaiting the rest of the build! Oh, and great to see you back on Hot Rod Garage with Tony! It's no longer the Crown Hick; now it's the Crown Rehickulous!✌❤🙂

Hi, Working on a '64 El Camino. Enjoying your progress. I am building a driver in our home garage workshop so lots of good information. Thanks. Bob
Very cool!
Those are some really nice wagons. I always wanted one but in my area they are few and very rusty.
Looking forward to seeing more on this wagon. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 👍
2 door wagons are always cool.
Agreed!
South Bay paint is great my dads been going there for years 👍🏽

Looks great!👍
Looking good!

Digging it!
GOOD JOB LUCY
I SAW you shooting the right side of the dash left handed! DIY?! Maybe you’re sandbagging just a bit? Nice!
If i lived local ,i would loved to have popped over to help, going to be a very cool ride 😎. All the best Danny uk
Thanks. UK 👍
Love those old Chevelle wagons. A suggestion though. The dash and interior panels should really match the interior color and not the exterior.
I really enjoy your videos
Every visit to the paint shop looks the same when you get back, a brown box with the black diamond on it full of tins and sticks :D
Yep 👍
Enjoyed the longer video.Love the wagon keep up the great work!
I understand that about the lungs on the ragged edge. Dude I had covid bad like you. But, I do build my own Transmissions and do paint and electrical work
Awesomeness
That Butternut beard at the end...
Sweetness
Looking great! I always loved the 64/65 2 door wagons. I believe they built 1500?
Looks very good lucky
You can buff flat clear and make it the sheen you want it to be. I'm sure you know that.
Nice ride Lucky, {... thought ; that black textured spray for floors, its supposed to be durable. If your not doing carpet/ heat sound proof route.
Hugh Mc - Chicago metro.
Lucky is the man!
Not bad 👍 keep those videos coming

Didn't know you could do cool stuff in California 😜
Great video as usual! Glad to see some of those old school flat colors, looks awesome! I also don't rebuild transmissions lol!
Thanks Robert!
Painter 😀👍 mobile tech painter 🤸🚗
Hey Lucky , you ever see that little old lady from Pasadena ? I hear she got sweet ride . 👵🚘 she got bright red super stock Dodge .
Looks good man
I am in the process of rebuilding my 68 c10 swb and painting is just one of those things I am not comfortable with. This video was very informative!

Right on!
Most people turn the volume all the way up. When you do that you only do one pass before letting it flash off. You must have turned the volume way down using your technique. 👊👊
Lucky were your parents driving a wagon back in the day !!!
Lucky old schooling it again. I don't need a stinking paint Booth.
Only thing I missed was hearing how expensive paint has gotten, then it would of just been like my friends and I in the garage.
Now that's true!
Great color! 'norm-core!' I like to paint with a similar color, more brown in it, like ocher. Not cars tho, canvas or panels
I painted a 66 Corvair that color. Crocus Yellow.
Nice episode! Always enjoy watching, you make it simple to understand.we were wondering out here in Wyoming if we will ever get to watch you work on Project X again?? While you are ripping all the electric power plant equipment out and putting in a big block?????
You never know, very possible. 😎
Some of the Valspar paints are made in Jackson Tn. about 25 min from my house.
I was thinking the same over spray on the chevelle take forever to get it off
Had to do a double take when you showed the "engine" on the tool cart! :)
Hey Lucky, i think i have rocker trim gor that wagon. 2door chevelle wagon
classic chevelle color, looks a bit funny on the beard tho
lol

It’s been a while since a I painted a car. Have you considered painting the roof white?
