Hopefully this answers the naysayers who think it’ll be a Riker hologram program (back when it was first announced, some were going, how, this doesn’t make any sense unless it’s a hologram) Unless they’re setting up for a prank on Boimler.

Naked sitting in one of his Academy exams that she knows he had the most trouble with, for example. [Bonus points if Una or Pelia was his professor for that class.]

It’s crazy how deeply invested into Star Trek I am. I get a strong sense of euphoria anytime i see something Star Trek related.
i get that same sensation when I do some home repair and pick up my cordless drill like my Milwaukee M12 12-Volt which looks like the ones used in ST: Enterprise, until my wife walks in and tells me 'dude turn off the Star Trek and go back to work!', and needless to say she's the Star Wars fan along with all of my kinds.

Did he say four digit, or five digit, stardate?
Although the former, was never very consistently used - anyway.
@@chrissonofpear1384 as I was explaining in a group chat on a Trek themed group that I'm in, Original Series start dates were the four digits and then the dot and then a remaining digit where is the TNG ones for five digits normally starting with four then the season number and then the last three digits denoting roughly around where in the year it would take place with a dot then a final digit. For example the 2 stardates in this episode are 2291.6(2259 for the Pike era) and 58460.1. So his line about five digit stardates is actually quite correct
@@chrissonofpear1384 He said "five," so he's counting the decimal. The original series did make sure that each episode always went "up" in stardates, but you're right that other shows like DS9 rarely bothered with it at all.
TNG did us a six digit date however.

@@zillagrilla315 The stories and the humor itself are fine and great even, within the context of the show but the Mariner character is way too grating, and unrealistic even for animation. She actively sabotages, cruel, humiliates and throws her mates, especially Boim, under the bus on a regular basis. While there are characters like that on many shows - they haven't found the balance for her here. She is just grating for grating sake which apparently is supposed to be funny.
Flaws are good for characters but the shows sides with her despite her doing really bad things so she basically is never wrong. It takes the wind out of the sails whenever it looks like it's going great or has built some goodwill and momentum. I have it given a really fair shake. I've made many attempts to continue with the show but it's always a start stop although I do intend to finish the series.

The whole uniform is perfect. I love that they even have Mariner's sleeves rolled.
I did a lower decks medical officer at con this month. Anything resembling proper cartoon boots are pissy had to get.
If this episode does NOT have an animated Pike and crew briefly visiting the Ceritos by the end, I will be profoundly disappointed.
EDIT: Just watched the episode. We didn't get them on board the Ceritos, but we did get an animated ending scene with Pike and Crew, and it was hilarious! The whole episode was great, start to finish.
When they announced this episode at SDCC last year at the SNW panel Anson Mount said they made an impressive 2D animated version of himself. So I believe there will be animated parts at the beginning and the end of the episode.
Unless lower decks gets a counterpart episode with snw characters.

@@OddOneOut665 as funny as that would be, it's very unlikely and more so problematic then future folk visiting the past. They could accidentally see things they shouldn't, from Una's recruitment poster to literally every bit of tech.

Well I love every Star Trek that comes out. But in reality, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks are so far ahead and in a different league than the rest of the new stuff.

I'm so looking forward to this. My thoughts regarding this clip that it's part of the opening scene of the episode. It looks like the "portal" Boimler mentions is The Guardian of Forever that sent Kirk, Spock and McCoy back to the 1930's. The Cerritos crew was there doing something at the portal and somehow sends Beckett and Boimler back in time to the Enterprise. This clip is where Boimler wakes up after the journey. Also this is after the Enterprise crew has already met Mariner, with Captain Pike saying they know he's from the future.
One more thing. If we don't get a Boimler screan in this episode I will be disappointed.
The Cerritos probably has to go clean up all the bones around the Guardian of Forevers portal of every Ferengi trying to use it to go back and win money on horse races, every Klingon trying to fight alongside Kahless and every Romulan trying to do.... stuff.

I thought it was weird at first that they recognized him as an ensign considering the different rank insignia, but then I remembered that Starfleet used pips in the 22nd century so whatever.
Boims reaction to Una makes me think this won't just be a standalone episode, there will be something that carries over into the rest of the series.
If they already know he's from the future it could be Mariner is already awake so they would know he's an ensign.
I think there is a decent chance shes still around in his time. She's a genetically engineered alien, who knows how old she could be. What if she was like someone teaching at the academy or is an admiral? His reaction made me feel he's worried about her opinion lmao. He almost like snaps to attention.
@@kanaric Of course she is still around in the future, after all from TOS Number One/Nurse Chapel/Luxanna eventually will becomes the voice of the computer. 🌟 (And technically she is married to Ransom). Just glad they had the foresight to hire voice actors who resemble their characters.

Una disappears from Star Trek after Pike's accident-which makes me think she either knew or figured out he'd known since he accepted the Time Crystal. Best guess would be she Transferred off of the Enterprise because she couldn't stand serving aboard that ship after what happened to him.
As for Una's future? We literally know nothing, at all, about what might even have potentially happened to her post-Pike's accident. But there's no reason she couldn't still be alive about 120 years in the future given the Illyrian's had to do major work on their own DNA after the Vulcans botched it just to save their species. Extending a lifespan just makes sense.
By Boimers reaction to her when he figured out who she was, though, given he immediately slapped on a Starfleet insignia badge and practically leaped to attention, literally? I think it's a given she's of very high rank and influence by his time. Also, the one everyone all the Cadets want to serve under. Anyone else think maybe he has a crush on her too?

Plot twist: Picard served under or was trained by Chin-Riley at some point in his cadet years, and THAT'S where he picked up the habit of referring to Riker as "Number One".
Also...I kinda need this episode right-fuckin-now.
He freaked out with Una because he is super attracted to her, but she is probably like his great great grandmother or something so it's weird for him.
I think that is just how he is with woman in general in awe of them and also wants to kiss their face off at the same time. So he ends up doing a passable impersonation of Marinette Dupain-Cheng as a consequence.
Hahah... they even have the Starfleet Delta boot outsoles on Boimler's uniform.

I am wondering when Mariner shows up as previous clip shows her in this timeline also. Jack Quaid is playing his character so well here. His character in the Boyz is also a bit neurotic at times, at least in season 1 of that show. Amazing that they gave him the very purple hair in this clip.
Apparently it's a wig, Tawny Newsome is definitely wearing one in the ep as she keeps her hair in dreadlocks and mentioned the wig in social media. Having seen a photo of her I'm impressed they managed to hide all her natural hair under it!
I love they even go and dye his eyebrows.

This was one of the best episodes of Star Trek I've ever seen. It was so much fun with so much fan service. This felt like an act of love towards fans. This is how you do a crossover. Magnificent

So... it actually has not yet been established how long a member of Una's species lives. Boimler could have actually met a future version of her, maybe even as an Academy professor. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one, because Una is one of the few Legacy characters on this series whose "final" fate we do not yet know. And she is also AWESOME!!!
Yeah, I'm currently betting Una lived long enough to meet Boimler and instill some fear in him to get that reaction. I'm thinking either as an Academy prof or she's his great-grandma.

Well, I was wrong. Still not quite sure if the actual reveal was a "let down" or not. I need more time to process this awesome crossover episode! And I'm also pissed that we did not get to see live action versions of Tendi and Rutherford, even though we DID get to see animated versions of the Strange New Worlds cast at the end of this episode. WTF SNW?!!! (I'm also not blaming the actors behind Tendi and Rutherford for not wanting to go through makeup and prosthetics for just a few shots, so maybe that was why...)
