As far as I know, only 3 bands/artists have had covers released by The Smiths, those being James, Twinkle (Golden Lights), and Cilla Black (Work Is A Four Letter Word) although the second song they ever performed together was a cover of The Cookies' I Want A Boy For My Birthday,
This shit sounds magical. I remember watching an interview from 1985 it was uploaded here on TH-cam and Morrissey mentioned he likes what James do as a band and like hearing this I 100% understand why. This is heaven
The Smiths cover it on a live gig in glasgow, 1985. Opens the track with 'This song was written by........ehhhh...ehhh' and then the track starts. Official release of the track can be found on 'the sound of The Smiths' compilation @@makopolok
musical critique: the song is too short. i wish they had 2X the chorus. the abrupt entry and subsequent reentry of the bridge would have been better received with a more subtle transition. the melody of the music and vocals is absolutely superb. it's a shame such things overlooked rendered an absolutely brilliant song to just 'fantastic'. the producer should have known better.
How many bands have had a track covered by The Smiths. James! Simply the best thing to come out of Manc since the M62 was built.
Tim is from Leeds!
@@stevemej Born in Bradford.
@@stevemej He grew up in Manchester.
The Smiths covered James and well mozza also covered suede , the song titled "my insatiable one"

If anyone is looking for this track's B-side ('83) and their other ep ('84) search for James Village Fire. Epic early stuff! 👏🏻
like alot of bands the first records always the best !!!
What an amazing tune
Soooo Madchester
dos minutos mas que suficientes para crear una excelente cancion !!!!
James should have change their band's name somewhere around 92, 93. They were so damn good until then.
Brilliant love james

What happened to Paul Gilbertson, and where is he now. Seems to have disappeared off the radar completely
