Studies also show that our attempt to supress all wildfire necessarily means that fires will burn with more severe and less diverse ecological impacts, with burned areas increasing as faster rates than expected frim fuel accumulation or climate change.
There's litterally tons of things that could've been done, land management to start with, clearing brush, chopping down dead trees, land management is a huge issue in California.
@@zachmasters7397 The main issue though is that they'd have to dig up all the non native grass which is the main fuel source for wild fires. Hopefully they do that now that so many patches of land is burnt.

Y'all are missing what the Santa Ana Winds are. They're hurricane force winds that are extremely dry. 70mph during the fires. You can't fly the scooper planes in winds higher than 40mph.

When the Maui fires happened, federal relief was combined with increased funding for the war in Ukraine. Congress often approved bills with stipulations that had nothing to do with each other. It’s how they push their agenda.
Because politicians are their donors keep getting rich from their incompetence. The fair thing to do is give the citizens a fair election instead of having their house burn down because of who the machine installed.
When the fires happened in Maui, congress combined federal relief and funding the war in Ukraine. Unfortunately aide tends to be conditional and they’re sneaky about it. Trump is being up front about it so it’s out in the open.
@ okay but I’m right leaning.. So you would have to agree that helping Ukraine is equal to helping Americans. I don’t think we should be helping Ukraine or Israel. They don’t pay taxes.. in fact, they suck out tax money. Wild take to support people who don’t pay taxes.
When the fires happened in Maui, congress combined federal relief and funding the war in Ukraine. Unfortunately aide tends to be conditional and they’re sneaky about it. Trump is being up front about it so it’s out in the open.
As a resident of California since 1970, I can tell you that government policies and regulations contributed to the severity of the fires' destruction. Once upon a time, California used to conduct control burns and timber harvesting for fire management. However, environmental groups opposed these practices, and far-left policies forced their abandonment. Decades of mismanagement led to forests choked with overgrowth and ripe with fuel. California has prioritized fire impression rather than fire prevention. It's a bad policy!
So, with that logic, rich people who have never served in the military shouldn't get the protection of our soldier's service, is that correct, Quid Pro Quo Donny?
@@thomaswebb2584 well the FEMA worker that said she got her orders from the top was fired, she said she was doing what she was told to do, which was to not offer help to houses with Trump signs, California is going to get funding obviously, yet they need to agree to land management, getting rid of the brush, cutting down dead trees, cutting and maintaing large fire breaks between the fire zones and the habituated areas, yet again California will get its funding and disaster relief.
@zachmasters7397 why do they have to get rid of dead wood when the wildfires turn it to ash so nicely? People forget that some of these things are MEANT to occur and many species of trees/bushes thrive AFTER fires---- we are the issues because we move EVERYWHERE, including , floodplains, swamps, river delta, and expect NATURE to change.
It doesn't matter. What does it have to do with emergency aid for wildfires? This is conflating to separate issues. I guarantee most people who lost their homes have an ID.
what does voter ID have to do with wildfire aid? By your logic, when red state politics result in scenarios that make natural disasters worse, DEMs would be within their rights to withhold aid due to those red policies.
I only agree with voter ID if the government actually helps provide them directly to registered voters. I’m against requiring driver’s licenses for voting because not everyone has drivers licenses, and it disenfranchises people who live too far from the nearest DMV to get a non-licensed ID. A special voter ID card should be mailed to every voter. I’m also against conditioning aid on this issue. That is just pure fucking evil to punish a state because of how they chose to vote.
Every state has an option for a standard non drivers license. It's accepted in lieu of a driver's license. It's called a State ID. You need a government issued ID to register to vote and get a voter ID card. That's how it works here in AZ
Nobody is disenfranchised from voting through voter ID laws. Liberals always cry about it but fail to ever provide a single instance where it has happened in a way that wasn't easily preventable. And even if super rural people are disenfranchised, isn't that a predominantly white and Republican demographic, which completely goes against any liberal framing of the problem.
other countries also automatically give their citizens appropriate IDs free of charge requiring someone who otherwise wouldn't need an ID to obtain one to go vote is akin to a poll tax which is illegal in this country. if you made a basic ID free of charge, and readily available to anyone quickly and easily (not having to wait for hours at the DMV) then you'd have an argument. but with our system as it is right now, voter ID laws only serve to suppress the votes of poor people. basically this is putting the cart before the horse

There's was a big issue that L.A. had a huge amount of fire fighting equipment including fire trucks that was rendered unusable because the city wouldn't provide enough money to service and repair it.
FEMA told people in North Carolina to rebuild a road and bridge themselves and then submit the receipts to be reimbursed. Like individual homeowners have the funds to rebuild a road and a bridge. FEMA is a complete joke! I totally understand getting rid of that agency. It’s so broken. All it does is refuse to disperse funds that have already been appropriated to those who desperately need it.
@@brianpeterson7028 FEMA has the funds. The money has already been appropriated to them by Congress. They’re just refusing to disperse the money. How would giving them even MORE money fix this problem? They have become too bureaucratic and corrupt. I’m not suggesting leaving the states to fend for themselves. I’m suggesting that this corrupt government agency is no longer serving the purpose it was supposed to serve. It’s become much more of a hindrance than a help. It should go.
What does that have to do with disaster relief. Look at how poorly Biden handled NC and FL, but Trump is basically saying "Hold my Beer". This was the perfect time to Win over any critics and show the Democrats how Americans should be taken care of, but instead he engages in these antics.
It’s literally the law that you have to been a citizen to register to vote. They verify your ID at the time of registration, and you have to provide drivers license number, CA ID number, or SSN. If you don’t provide those, then you must provide proof of citizenship and residency each time you vote. It’s literally already the law. The only purpose is to reduce voter turnout and make it harder to vote.
When voting officials search which types of IDs black people use more often, and then make those ineligible, yeah it’s racist. And the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled it as such.
You're already showing your ID when you register. Why do we need to show it again when we can't get a registration card without proving our identity and citizenship?
@JustSomePerson8 when it happens it is usually due to the voter's age or disability. The overwhelming majority of people are voting for themselves. The laws in red states aroused mail in voting are onurus and do not take into account that people have different types of disabilities. It's not just being blind or unable to walk. They wouldn't even allow my mom to help my grandparents when their health was failing them. Also, many people who do try to vote for others are caught, and 99.9% of them are U.S. citizens.
As someone not from the US - HOW is requiring an ID to vote such a big deal?! From my understanding you are the only place in the world where this is an issue? Also, how is the 5th largest economy in the world not able to count votes in a few hours? I'm not a genius, but come on connect the fucking dots. 😂😂😂😂😂
They dont want voter ID because it allows all the ille.gal alie.ns to vote Dem in CA. If you notice the last election 3 months ago, every state that Trump lost did not have voter eye Dee laws. Coincidence?
It always comes down to who's the last level of payment and how many hoops will a person have to jump through in order to get it. For a lot of people paying for an I.D out of their own pocket is seen as a violation of the Voting Poll taxes, that we spent the 1960s getting rid of. Additionally depending on the current administration issuing those I.D they can make it an absolute B**ch for certain demographics of citizens to get a Voting I.D. The average American won't even read this comment in totality, let alone spend a few hours or multiple appointments to get a Voting I.D if the administration makes it difficult enough.
Here is the issue… It’s a poll tax to vote. There are millions of Americans that dont have an ID. It costs on average like $50 to get an ID. Essentially it could prevent poor people and senior citizens from voting. Either way I believe every state requires some form of identification to be presented, just not necessarily a photo ID whether it be a birth certificate or something like that. I would be ok with voter ID law, but than give Americans free identification. Not create a tax to vote.
Tying fema aid to voter id is absurd, but you know what, I agree with Trump. Let the states handle their disasters, so on that note, CA can just stop sending our tax money to Fed. We don't need to hear the nonsense.
You have to provide ID to register to vote. If they want voter ID, pass a law in Congress. Just remember poll taxes are illegal so it must be a ID provided to all citizens free of charge. Guaranteed no republican will support that approach because to goal isn’t “election integrity” but rather trying to keep poor people from voting. Mike Johnson has no shame. Maybe he should go back to sharing pron with his son.
look at what voter ID means in Florida and Mississippi and other red states. Just like 'Save the Children', Voter ID is a trojan horse to enable voter suppression legistlation like they have in republican states. They will close voting locations, make it illegal to register to register voters outside the DMV, create candidate deadline mazes that differ county by county and the list goes on. This is not about having an ID checker at the voting booth entry.

@@zachmasters7397 The main issue though is that they'd have to dig up all the non native grass which is the main fuel source for wild fires. Hopefully they do that now that so many patches of land is burnt.

Additionally depending on the current administration issuing those I.D they can make it an absolute B**ch for certain demographics of citizens to get a Voting I.D.
