Thanks Ryan. The new Tesla batteries look interesting as the next stepping stone in battery technology. If that 20% power density improvement is real, then the battery in a 100kWh car would weigh the same as the older 80 kWh one, meaning that either better 'fuel' efficiency is coming, or else a new 120kWh battery is in the eaves. Exciting times.
The wheels falling off Toyota cars sounds like a premonition. 😉

Lets see a ten hour drive in a ICE truck at 60mph =600 miles \ 18mpg = 33 gallons of gas, Reality tells me that 15mpg is a probable real live result 40 gallons of gas 40 X 3.75 = 150 dollars of cost. Fill a tesla 2 times there = 40 bucks or 22 bucks depending on current charging costs. So there and back for 300 bucks Ice truck, or 80 bucks charge. Savings for trip 220 for Tesla. So spend a extra 220 for Ice save 5 hours or this extra time saves you 220.00

    • @andrewihlenfeldt8061

@@dlstephenson I agree! Which is why I prefer to drive the Tesla. I’m hoping in the future battery technology improves to be comparable in recharge time and range. I drove it from the Bay Area in CA to Boise Idaho. The speed limit is 80mph a lot of the way and I found myself driving 65 to save range. Also, driving that long with three kids in the car isn’t ideal, and flying is cost prohibitive.

    2. Total Non Tesla Maintenance Costs: (4) performance tires, $1120
    3. Supercharger costs $478; Total electricity costs non Tesla: $0 (free charging at apartment complexes, garages)
    4. Total energy cost savings over $50K: Approx $8,122. (Gas assumed at $4.30/gallon blended costs during 4 year period, at average comparable performance vehicle efficiency of 25MPG (50,000 mi / 25 MPG X $4.30/gallon = $8,600 gas costs less $478 electricity costs = $8,122, or roughly $2K savings per annum
I estimate I also saved roughly $1000 per year in lower maintenance costs (no oil changes, no tuneups, no coolant system maintenance, etc etc), which only get more expensive in future years with ICE vehicles.
Net/Net, I firmly believe one can expect to save in the range of $2500 to $3500+ operating an EV over the comparable operating costs of an ICE vehicle. My energy savings may be higher than others who more heavily rely on super chargers or home electricity use, but likely lower than those who drive more than 12,500 miles per annum.

But in the future they will mass produce MUCH cheaper EVs and dominate the markets in Europe and Asia. BYD has already overtaken Tesla in terms of sales and I am sure that the Chinese will steal lots of know-how from the GigaFactory Shanghai to produce cheap copies. Tesla is no #2 in China behind BYD and #3 in Europe behind Stellantis and VW. Why should it be valued at 900 billion? They are suppose to be years ahead not falling behind.
