Don't be fooled by Miku's appearance, she has a wise head on....um....an 810yr old pigeons shoulders.🐦

To answer your question guys, going by your playlist it doesn't look like you've done anything from their last two albums. So before you get to UW, you may want to check out a couple of tracks off of Conqueror, and there are good MV's for Bubble (hard groove, one of my faves), Rinne (one of their hardest songs and another goodie) and Wonderland live (softer with a jazzy feel but still rock). In addition to these, my fave off of Conqueror is the ballad with no video, called "Page." Then, onto the Unseen World and no better place to start is Warning MV - although the Manners/Black Hole combo will give you a great 2 for 1.

3:25 lol thank you for being self-aware. I enjoy the interviews and other videos but there's so many songs you haven't reacted to I almost wondered if you had listened to them offline or had another YT channel with the reactions. They listed Warning, After Life, No God, Black Hole and Sayonakidori and all have videos on their official channel. IMHO, DICE and Onset are the only songs you've listened to I would put in my top 20. I love those other songs, but man they have so many bangers you're missing out. If you've been blown away already you're in for a treat.

Of course it has now been over another whole year since this interview that they haven't been able to do live in person shows so their "springs" have gotten compressed even more.

Trivia: 1/ Miku's natural voice is much lower-pitched when she's out of character (but you'll rarely hear her though, except on some rare footage) 2/Kanami here had worked way too much on the Unseen World album (she's a workaholic) and was obviously tired - "luckily" the covid times allowed her to rest (even if ishe was depressed at first because of it) 3/Saiki has the final word when it's about musical decisions 4/ Miku usually find lyrics inspiration in books, mangas and movies (she has a pretty broad range of taste regarding this!) 5/ Misa is actually the goofy one in the band! but not on stage 6/ "Miku Kobato" is not Miku's real name, it's probably Mika Noguchi (except if it's another stage name used earlier) - she chose to turn "Mika" into "Miku" to avoid confusion with Misa 6/ there was a HUGE concert (the biggest of their life) planned for a year at the famous BUDOKAN venue ... and they had to cancel it short after this interview, it was heartbreaking

@@VladimirChupin the Mika/MISA thing is stated on their TVtropes page. And are you saying you know that Kawahara is MISA's surname? I've never found a source that knew what it was, but it's always surprised me how a public figure could keep her surname undisclosed for so many years, and I assumed it was due to Japanese culture highly respecting privacy.
Edit: When I looked up Misaki Kawahara, I found an idol singer who definitely isn't our MISA.

The songs from the 2021 Unseen World album that you may have listened to are Manners, After Life, No God, Black Hole, Warning!

I have the Young Guitar vol.806, Feb 2021. It an excellent book to get. It is full of band info, band gear info, photos and this interview. Most of the previous publications are from a few years before. The score book for Unseen World is also well worth getting even if you don't play/read music- lots of info and interviews with the band and the tech/support crews etc. and fabulous photos of the band members and is available from their web shops. These two are a must for fans.

  • @Glenner7

Thank you for this reaction! The entire Unseen World album from Jan 2021 is a masterpiece. There are 9 recent MVs for their recent songs (see the songs that others have listed here in the comments) - you haven't watched any of them. I'd recommend the two-for-one live video of Manners and Black Hole. They also released three newer songs last October (Sense, Hibana, and Corallium).

'Kobato' is Miku's family name AND a nickname: it's a stage name adopted in all likelihood because she's a tad eccentric and has a thing about pigeons. Her 'real' name is almost certainly Mika Noguchi, which is the name she was using when she made her first moves towards a career in music.
She's most frequently referred to by both herself and others as 'Kobato', but Saiki occasionally calls her 'Koba'.

the Unseen World album is on both YT & Spotify. Manners/Black hole, No God, Warning, Afterlife are all off this album as well.
correct Kobato is Miku's last name(written as small pigeon, thus the POs)

Going by your uploads you guys have so far taken in Thrill (2015 New Beginnings), Real Existence & Freedom (2016 Brand New Maid), Dice & Domination & Turn Me On (World Domination 2018) + Onset of which there is an official live recording but isn't on any album so far (seems to be the fate of their instrumentals).
You got the old 2014 "Maid In Japan" pop-rock "cute clothes and cool music" start left to check out.
Once decided hard rock was the way, the "classic" Band-Maid hard rock sound was in full force with "Just Bring It" 2017, doubled down on with "World Domination" 2018.
And then the band put a little check on things - Miku, or we should say Kobato really, since that is how both she herself and the band refers to her (or "Koba" for short sometimes) was worried their wall-to-wall-no-stops-hard-rock performances was going to end up killing someone in the audience - and so to broaden their sound and appeal they put out "Conqueror" in 2019, with what the refer to as decidedly more mid-tempo songs. Some fans loved the softer development, some of the more hard-core hard rock fans were not amused. It's part of where this discussion in the clip about different forms of appeal and catering to multiple tastes comes from.
Whatever else can be said about their 2021 "Unseen World", they were clearly not going softer at least. "Progressive metal" has been used to describe the more frantic parts. (According to the band, the music gets more frantic the more pressure Kanami feels, and the pandemic was apparently a very depressing development for her.)
But you will probably be overtaken by events and the prolificness of Band-Maid however, as a new EP is under way for the summer of 2022. The prognosis is still that they will not be going softer. We have yet to hear how that has turned out. Could be MISA songs on it for the first time?

The studio version of "onset" was released on a separate bonus disk for those who would buy both Bubble and Glory singles as one package.
It's not really true that the instrumentals are overlooked in the official releases. Even if we leave aside that now we have the whole disk of instrumental versions of all songs from Unseen World, four instrumentals were released on CDs, "onset," "ENTREE," "Don't be long," and "without holding back":
      01. BAND-MAID - [Day of the Maid 2020] Want more! (distributed by Kanami through her Dropbox)
      02. BAND-MAID - [start over #01] onset (I refer here to the live version which was part of ZEPP Tokyo bonus disk in the "start over" single)
      03. BAND-MAID - [Gekidou Kobe #14] Go Nuts! (I give here the reference to the live recording which is available; this song was their gift to a certain radio host, I don't remember now his name. It was never released in any way, but they play it live)
      04. BAND-MAID - [The Day of Budokan] ENTREE
      05. BAND-MAID - [Different CD1 #02] Don't be long
      06. BAND-MAID - [Unseen World #14] without holding back

As we have seen, some fans have got all upset over some of their songs that haven't fitted into the particular style/genre that they want band Maid to stay in. They are too talented and versatile as composers and musicians to get stuck in a rut and I am one that loves the variety because no matter what they do, they do it better than most anyone. Heck, who needs another ac/dc or Metallica (ducks behind the parapet).

I've never heard anybody say they suck now or anything like that. I think it's OK to hope their next album has certain sounds you prefer over others. I mean there's a difference between being toxic and not being as enthused as others. There's nothing wrong with having particular tastes.
