@shipwrecksunday can make a suggestion for an interesting fun fact as well? There is a channel here on TH-cam called Ocean Liner Designs and the gentleman who makes content for it is a historian. He just recently did a release on why ships' keels are typically red in color. I know the images of RMS Tahiti show a green hull and orangish lower hull. But well below the waterline might be another matter for an interesting reason. Also thank you for the Yarmouth video. I had no idea that ship existed. Have you done a video yet for the Yarmouth Castle? A sister to Morro Castle if I recall correctly. She met a similar fate. I am enjoying your work thank you again.
Never heard of this ship. After your work and video I know SO MUCH now! You are right. It's extremely rare to hear about a loss of a passenger/commercial ship that didn't have some lives lost. Outstanding work by all the crew for saving everyone while being so far from the nearest land. Good radio and an accurate position reporting had to have played an important role also. Just a single "degree" off in a ship's location can mean many rescue vessels showing up miles from the actual sight. There are several reports that RMS Titanic's reported position was many miles north of her true sinking spot. Carpathia was coming from a southeasterly direction and happened across the lifeboats nearly by accident. Although they were already looking. You've done it again! Wonderful storytelling and amazingly deep research on a little known ship and disaster.
I read that about Titanic, as well! Very interesting how just one miscommunication can just make everything completely off and make a bad evacuation worse. I absolutely think the crew of RMS Tahiti were great at coordinating their rescue and I appreciate them so much! Thank you for coming back, cheers!!
Thanks so much for your research and presentation of the story of the liner Tahiti. I love all the photos that you have shared. I’ve been a nautical buff since childhood, as well as a fan of classic movies from the earliest talkies until the mid-1960s, and I’ve always loved the movie scenes that were set aboard ships. I’m sure many small to medium sized cargo liners were lost in the first half of the Twentieth Century, and I’m so pleased that you guys are telling their stories. The story of Tahiti is particularly fascinating to me as an example of selfless courage by her captain and crew. The battle to save her is probably just one example of hundreds of struggles that happened before the dawn of the Jet Age, when small ships like Tahiti were the only way to travel great distances economically. Thanks again for the story, the photos, and helping me to relive a bit of my youth when travel by ships was the only way to see the world.
Thanks so much for your support! I love all kinds of ships and Tahiti had a wonderful story to cover! Her captain and crew are a shining example of exactly what one should do!
Great video! Never heard of this shipwreck until now. It's nice to hear a transpacific liner as we don't hear a lot about them like the Japanese liner Hikawa Maru. And Tahiti's sinking is kind of similar to Princess Mafalda who also sank after breaking her propeller shaft off the coast of Brazil.
I definitely want to cover more on the Pacific! Transatlantic ocean liners are definitely the most popular but there are some fascinating stories on the Pacific! Cheers!
Hooray, a new one on Me! Gratifying Marine Topic - no casualties in the sinking, Personnel Saved Travellers, a Crew of REAL Sailors. You`re getting there, an American that DOESN`T put `the` in front of HMS or in this case, HMNZT.
I have covered the SS Arctic and her sister, SS Pacific, but I have never heard of MF Jan Heweliusz! I'll have to check that one out! Thank you so much and welcome aboard!!
@@shipwrecksunday Thanks! And Jan Heweliusz was a small polish ferry, it sunk in a storm with most onboard lost. Its so nice that you care about your viewers
I tried watching your Britannic (video game) sinking video. It was making me dizzy and nauseous. I played my last video game in 1983 and I'm not used to such vertigo inducing images. People complain about "shaky cam" in movies, but wow.
Thank you! No problem! Amazing stories! Garcia lost her rudder and went up a slipway narrowly missing yachts, unovering a brutal truth about the ship, elwood mead ran aground and nearly sank on her maiden voyage@@shipwrecksunday
Lol! I have it in place for the parents of little ones that have reached out to me and said their children enjoy my show. That way they can screen what they show their kids!
Please keep the comments kind toward one another and absolutely no discussion of COVID-19! We are here for RMS Tahiti, not COVID! Cheers, friends!!
YAY GOYA
Lovely looking vessel! If it was possible to travel on her today, I’d go in a heart beat!
Right? She was so gorgeous!!
heya! it's almost 10 years since the sinking of MV St Thomas Aquinas
Interesting! I'll add her to the list!
Splendid work by the crew getting everyone off like that. Plus saving cargo and papers. Well done in covering this case so well. Brava to you.
Thanks so much! I loved how the captain and crew handled this!

@@robinwiddrington5765 thanks so much for watching!
Interesting Video Shipwreck nice to hear a video about the crew rising to the occasion and being commended like you said it's not always the case😁👍👍👍👍
Oh, it is so refreshing to hear a crew like this. I want every crew ever to be like this!! Cheers!
@@shipwrecksunday 🥂 me too
Hadn't heard of this one. Great storytelling, Elinor!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for another great narration
Thank you! Great to see you again!!
What a sad and absurd way for a ship to go. Thanks again for sharing.
It was such a strange way for her to sink! First time I'd ever heard of something of this nature happening. Cheers!

I'm learning!! You guys really are the best teachers! This crew was so dazzling. I admire them so highly! It was quite refreshing!
Good vid Elinor , enjoyed it !
Thanks so much, Rick!! Great to see you on another one!
never heard about this one ever how cool to hear about a new ship to me how did u guys find this one nugget of gold in the dirt of unknown ships?
I was digging for interesting ships on the Pacific and found this gem! Great to see you!
This channel is great! Am so sad that I didnt hear about it before! I wonder did you so a video about MF Jan Heweliusz or SS Arctic of Collins Line?

Love hearing New Zealand and Australian maritime history
Me too! It's so fascinating!
Amazing Video! I'm not sure, Have I asked if you could cover the grounding of President Garcia and Elwood Mead already?

Deserves a ton of views…crazy
I was watching a night to remember with my mom what did I miss?
You missed a good one! Also that movie is fabulous!
@@shipwrecksunday my mom called the ship the non breaking in half ship something like that 😂
Well now you gotta do the greycliffe disaster lol
Lol we should!!!
For a ship like RMS Port Kingston the real engine power could be ten times biger - maybe 14 400 hp.
Thank you!!
Does this trolley go to Tahiti
Ironically enough, no!
@@shipwrecksunday goddamit we need noise Arthur if we want to get on the trolley to tahiti
If i had a quarter for everytime Elinor brings up when she had spanish flu as a baby

Dutch Van Der Linde would be proud of this video just as the rest of the community is
