@@shipwrecksunday happy Halloween E! I don't celebrate it myself, but doesn't mean I cant interact and tell jokes with the kids and their families. Its always good to meet the neighbors and just slow down from the hustle and bustle from the everyday
It's so hard to imagine an abandoned ship could stay afloat for decades, much less a century. I would like to see her found floating, but like you either afloat or on the bottom. Great story Elinor Thank you
It would be amazing if the ship is still afloat out on the sea somewhere. Plus it does make me wonder how many other ships are just drifting around on the world's oceans.
happy Halloween Elinor. hope this week was better for you a gain sorry for your loss. great story and I guess we will see you tomorrow my friend. 😎💚💙👍👍🍺🍺🍻
I absolutely love this video, miss! Well done! When it comes to ghost ships, the SS Baychimo is definitely my favorite. Her story is so interesting, and the amazing detail you’ve put into this video has yet made it another fantastic one.
Got a couple "Ghost Ships" around by me in the Great Lakes... Though most of them have been found on the lake bottom and proven to have sunk shortly after crew abandoned, or ship "disappeared" with all aboard.... Still a small number are still "seen floating" from time time, and have yet to be proven sunk or destroyed, by divers / underwater archeologists like myself.... Enjoyed the thorough research and story. Good video.... From Lansing, Michigan. Wishing everyone a great weekend.
5:21 "No members of the crew allowed on shore unless necessary." Old rule and that was because of the difficulty of finding crew members. Reminds me of the opening of the movie "Donovan's Reef." Lee Marvin is swabbing the deck of a tramp steamer. The chief of the boat, concealing a truncheon behind his back, walks up. Lee asks: "Hey, remember when I signed on, you said we'd be at Haleakaloha on the 7th?" Chief: "Yeah." Lee hits him over the head with a mop stick and dives overboard.
I have to remind myself the waters off alaska are: A. Vast B. Cold C. Wild. That ship, if floating, can be anywhwere. If sunk, hopefully in waters cold enough to benefit preservation. Also, Elinor, maybe include a map of the region of where the vessel was found/is located. I understand that sometimes some sites are hidden due to legal, cultural, other valid reasons. Either way, another, yet spooky, banger Elinor!😂👻👻👻
I like to think that the Baychimo is still out there living her best life just waiting for the perfect opportunity to make a reappearance into the realm of the living and she just likes being this ghostly legend that has passed into immortality as an Alaskan myth. If you’re looking for more ghost ships to cover I would highly recommend taking a look into the stories of the SS City of Boston, SS City of Glasgow and the SS Naronic as all three 3️⃣ have been never been found and there has been conflicting details on what sent these ships with their human complement to the bottom of the Atlantic. As always I really appreciate how you tell the story of these boats and how you do not discount the human aspect of these stories. Thanks for being an inspiration and an amazing friend here in the maritime history community Elinor 😊
@shipwrecksunday wouldn't it be awesome to "stumble" on to her & climb aboard to see for yourself the way her crew left everything, when she was abandoned! It wouldn't be morbid like "disturbing the graves" of people who lost their lives on ships that went down to weather or other incidents. Namely Titanic, or any of the ferries, or ocean liners!
Happy Halloween to all who celebrate!! 🎃🦇👻

@@mikealvarez2322 I think the same!
Baychimo is one of those ships that I wonder if we will know where she ended up.
We might not!
I think she drifted to Russia and is aground in a cove way up north.
