After seeing your comments, I decided to try out Fist of the North Star Hokuto No Ken, which is a classic anime fighting game and I did not realize what I have been missing out! I wish I tried this game sooner. This game is extremely underrated!

I wish it happened but Arcsys probably isn't interested. Just like other less notable classic anime franchise today, it's become common to only get chances of appearing in a big new game as a guest in a crossover. And anime crossover games already became a kind of classic idea, in a way.
A 2D Jump crossover by ArcSys would be badass.
The story, the games, this entire franchise. Man I hope they do a lot for its 40th anniversary next year (23)

This game may be completely broken (it still has a dedicated competitive scene in some JP arcades), but it has the most fluid, extensive and creative combo system I’ve ever seen in a fighting game, and as a result is incredibly fun to play. It’s a shame the Fightcade2 player base is quite low - hopefully this video will bring some new players in!
For those who know the show it is actually a cool detail that Shu is carrying the pyramid too up the stairs in the back of Southers stage. In real time.

Fist of the north star is the shonen of all shonens. You can draw a straight line of inspiration from it to all your favorite, and modern shonen.
I'd argue HnK is not a shonen, it's way more violent and crass than the likes of Dragon Ball or One Piece, but it does predate them.
It's only real "shonen" aspect is _"Main character gets mad at evil guys and punches thrm a while lot."_ the similarities end there.
I'm always amazed at how fast this guy learns combos, like lightning fast, a few fights and that's it. I will go through several videos until I get what's going on with the game to start with even before attempting to do a single move hahaha great video!
“If fighting games based on licensed franchises were canon accurate” defines this game 100%.
Also gotta love Justing reenacting one of the most emotional fights in the anime by playing Toki VS Raoh
Great game. Watched the animated series. Creators were inspired by Bruce Lee in the creation of Kenshiro. Also has mad max vibes.
The original anime is pretty good if you're willing to forgive the somewhat limited animation, and some tropes. Really entertaining 80's anime.
@@costelinha1867 I would say that after the shin saga up to Souther fight was the golden times of the original anime. The Shin saga was better absorbed in like 4 minute recaps because it had a lot of entertaining moments but lots of "grunt of the week" stuff going on that got boring quick.

This game fucking rules. It's so, so busted, but so, so fun.
I wouldn't call it "underrated" as much as I'd call it "unavailable." It's literally JP-only, which is an actual crime since it's such a solid game in a somewhat well-known franchise, even outside of Japan. _And_ it's an ASW game! This shit needs to be officially ported to PC already.

One of my favorite fighters. Still wish I never sold my physical copy back in the day. I once pulled off Raoh's major combo and it was one of my favorite moments fighting my friend who was better than me in every other fighting game.
Future references (if its not covered); the way you do instakill is when you deplete your opponent's 7 counters under their health bar. Once you see that shining dot under them is when you can do the instakill.

Edit: it was released in Japan in 86, the west didn't know about anime until the Manga company started trading here in the early nineties.

Hey JW, you should pay the "story" mode with the missions in order to unlock Kenoh. I completed several years ago and it was very enjoyable

You enjoy this game twice if you know the original story. It was funny when kenshirou used the musou tensei (the most broken hokuto technique) and justin didn't have a clue. Or the "what are you doing bro" attitude during Raoh's legendary death pose. Amazing video, pure gold
as far as hokuto no ken is a global popular franchise, there's no other place where it had such a huge impact as it had in italy

I really enjoy how open Justin is to the enormous variety of fighting games. I wasn't sure I'd ever see this being played by THE MAN and it was sweet to see him in action.

Had this game when I had a JPS2. Game was honestly pretty damn fun. HNK is my favorite anime/manga so getting all the references is half the fun. I always called this game Hokuto Broken, but that's kinda part of the charm.
Ce jeu respect complètement l’anime que ce soit niveau gameplay, ambiance et animation ainsi que les musiques. J’ai le jeu original sur mon atomiswave dans ma borne et depuis des années on découvre encore des enchaînements de combos phénoménaux. Même le défaut que ce soit un jeu complètement craqué en font la qualité représentative du Manga. Un Must incroyable et le seul vrai jeu de ce manga 😎👍
When I was a little kid I played Hokuto no ken for the NES, I find the anime like 15 years later and finally make senses why the head explode

Certain special moves and universal attacks like banishing strike remove 1 star and you can only take 3 stars maximum per combo. But there's a bug in the game where if you tiger knee a special that takes a star it will be classed as arial and you can take a 4th. Also, you can do star combos into touch of death super if they have enough stars removed during the combo.

there was only on FOTNS machine in an otaku arcade in Japan and not many dudes playing it, but I remember one guy getting something like a 91 strike combo, it looked insane.

Honestly you can't tell me there's no way for them to patch this game for some balance tweaks and just general combat balance...
To me this game right here is the most untapped potential in the history of fighting games because it's so polished at its core and it just needs some optimization...

I'd love to throw tourneys of Fist( featuring Granddaddy Kenshiro) but there's 2 problems:
1. Nearly everybody has an Unlimited.
2. This game is pretty Damn expensive
The audio in this game seems deliberately clipped like it's playing through an arcade cabinet speaker at max volume
This game needs a rerelease with balance fixes. It's SOOO good.

Yay! I mentioned this game in your comments before. You finally tried it! Oh man!, If they could make another HnK fighter, wow! My favorit anime ever. Just a word of warning to people who will try out the series. The first two seasons suck. But after that, its the best thing ever made.

The show can be repetitive sometimes, but it's an iconic certified classic for a reason! You kiddos need to go watch it and learn your history!

All in all I really am a fan of the entire series and this game is awesome... Raoh death move... yeah beast mode

raoh was the real hero of the series, he's the one that broke the clouds and brought the light back

Would say is more unknown because is simply low key anime / manga - Haha - it is Hokuto No Ken! It is not a big household name... other than Streamline Pictures release many years back in early 90s... not many knew of FOTNS!! 👊
They should do a atomicwave collection and have the small amount of atomicwave games on one disc with online support hd remaster that would be epic I buy 2 copies

To me this is the prettiest fighting game ever, but I am a huge FOTNS fan.

the stages alone are worth the price of admission. i really wish this game made it stateside.
