  • This is the audio track that played in the Toad Hall scene from 1971 to 1995, after which point a track from Disneyland's version of the ride replaced it. This track originally came from Spencer Cook's Virtual Toad site and I added reverb so it sounds more like it did in the attraction.

Hard to believe that it was 45 years ago today that this ride opened; couldn't have picked a better time to discover this video!

I grew up with the ride at Disneyland during the 1950-70 years. Always fun.

This is similar to what the original queue music sounded like for Disneyland Mr. Toad. Before the 1983 current one.

50 years ago today, most of you went on the first Wild Ride. I was born when the poor attraction closed! 😭

Now this is an excellent recording. I've always wanted to hear the Gypsy Camp and Pub pieces as well, especially with how muffled they are in TH-cam videos.

I'm starting to consider the possibility of this having been used in the 1955 Disneyland version. For one thing, this track is somewhat stylistically different from the WDW town square/queue song, which has a much more "mod"-like feel and a focus on brass. The Toad Hall music has a very tinny, grainy sound to it as well (unusual and poor by 1971 standards), unlike the other three music tracks in the WDW ride, which you can definitely tell are more meaty in quality than this one through a handful of particularly-good video and audio recordings. The Toad Hall music also has several elements, particularly the little tones at 0:38 and 0:43, that simply strike me as incredibly "fifties" for one reason or another. Also, the song appears in this audio mix for the Disneyland ride (track 52 on this page: disneychris.com/15-disneyland-soundtracks/141-disneyland-audio-tour-chapter-12.html) at the very start, although I can't really imagine why whoever made the mix would bother to include it, unless the song was actually in the ride at some point.
Something that holds this theory back, however, is the fact that the town square and pub tracks (and possibly the Gypsy camp music as well) follow the exact same structure as the Toad Hall theme, one-for-one. All of the music in the ride was synced up so that each track would be able to naturally blend into the others, so unless those other songs were based on the structure of a music track from the Disneyland version, then the WDW Toad Hall theme was definitely never in the 1955 original. It seems to be a more likely scenario that this particular, ever-looping variation of The Merrily Song was made specifically for the WDW ride.

Good analysis- I've pondered much of what you've described. I so desperately wish we could hear audio from the original 1955 Disneyland version. While the Merrily Song was the only main song from the 1949 film, there are still many different musical sections and themes throughout the instrumental soundtrack. That being said, I sometimes scratch my head at why they had to have such a short, redundant loop play over and over again in the queue and Toad Hall areas. I actually think it was an improvement when in 1995 they added the Disneyland MTWR music which included more variety from the soundtrack.

Was this from the 1955 version of mr.toad's wild ride too?

I don't think anything is really known about the 1955 version as far as audio is concerned. It's _possible_ that the instrumental arrangement of Merrily On Our Way used for that one 1956 television clip of the cars exiting the ride was the actual loading queue music, but there's honestly no real way of knowing.

I think the track was changed when the ride was refurbished in 199..2?

+Kenneth Lemoine The track itself never changed. It was the just the cars and a few extremely minor cosmetic changes.

The cars added seats. More guest capacity but a loss of bite on the twists and turns.
