Still love the train effect. That floored me when I was seven years old. I had forgotten how 2D the rest of the ride was, probably because the experience itself was so much fun. 😀
This was one of my most favorite rides at Disney World. Even the 2D effects were great! I only recently learned it had been removed. I haven't been to WDW since 2005 when we took my son for his 5th birthday.
Wow! so glad to see more documentation of this ride! thank you so much for uploading. Some interesting observations I noticed. Track A: 1:23 Toad Statue not swaying, 1:38 view of elephant trunk moving in the trophy room (which has been captured on only one other TH-cam video I've seen), 1:45 timing of dishes crashing sound effect in kitchen out of sync (delayed), 2:07 on right side crash door- some kind of black looking sticker with white wording 2:32 you can barely see the sewer drain pop open. It took me awhile to find this out, but some little figure/character pops up with it (I still have yet to see a clear picture or video of what the character is that pops up though), 2:38 pub music seems turned way down, somewhat hard to even hear, 2:51 sound effect of water splash in blackout room not working/absent, 2:58 nice, rare, clear shot of Ratty popping out the front door (motion of figure appears to be slower than usual though), 3:02 another sticker looking decal on the short, right part of the railroad crossing arm, 3:23 cow devils in odd position leaned forward with face toward ground, never seen that before. Track B: 4:48 nice, rare, clear shot of hat getting "blown" off scared townsperson, 5:14 car stops for a split second in the jail, or my eyes just playing tricks on me?, and then shortly after (as pointed out by @THE MAN in below comment), warning bells can be heard prematurely as they are stuck on, and then the train crash audio is not working/absent. Also something else I noticed is that the vehicle speed seems to be a little slower. I checked some timing of this recording compared to other videos back when the cars were two seater and it appears that with the original, the ride time was around at least 10 seconds faster. It really was a shame the "zippiness" and speed was lost with the boxy 4 seaters. The two seaters seemed to give you the most out of the ride experience with that track and its tight turns.
These new Toad and Snow White recordings are jam-packed with neat little details and oddities, for sure. I didn't even know there was a "guy popping out of a manhole" gag in the town square scene until you pointed it out. Both rides seemed to be somewhat dysfunctional when these were shot, which really sheds light on a lot of little technical details. Also, I don't think the pub music is lower in volume here than it normally is. You can hear about a second's worth of normal-volume pub music right as the car is heading into the keg room, so it was more likely an issue of the video camera itself not picking up the frequencies of that song too well. It's basically the same thing as when the Gypsy Camp music is barely audible in certain recordings.
Who remembers mention of this ride, especially this variation, from the "Voice of Experience" promo for Walt Disney World the year after this? In this promo, as shown on the first videotape release of _The Lion King_ (which had first hit the big screen in 1994), the unnamed big brother's second thing he wanted Larry to remember about this park was not to eat right before going into this ride. It looked a bit like that then-boy wasn't kidding when he said so; all those sharp and fast turns.
oh the one where he's like Goofy is much taller in person and they pack but say "we'll be leaving in about three weeks"! I used to see that all the time. I hope the one mr toad car is still in disney springs though.
The railroad crossing bells and train whistle on Track B are stuck in an endless loop for some reason, and you can actually hear the first whistle overlapping with the second, quieter one at 5:39. A new audio error in the train tunnel as well: Instead of the collision sound playing without sound of the engine, it's other way around, with the roar of the oncoming train but no crash. That's definitely a first on TH-cam.
One of my favorite dark rides. My step mom got me hooked and even gave me a Mr Toads wild ride tshirt that’s cast members exclusive. It’s very worn now. I never was able to ride the WDW version since i wasn’t born yet but I ride it at Disneyland whenever I go
best dark ride EVER, WDW needs to introduce a park that includes all the attractions that were so very popular back in the 80's that would be so amazing!
I really thought that was a train coming toward us. Back when I was a kid in the 70s, that ride wowed me! I went to the one in the Magic Kingdom. Disney World. Now, I can see why kids would really not be excited by that ride, except maybe little boys seeing the woman on the wall as they went through the bar.
this ride always scared the crap out of me when I was a kid - specifically the hell part. Until now I remembered it as only what seemed like a fever dream...haha, but seeing it now with adult eyes, it was super cheesy hahaha - I thought it was so much longer and more intense, but it was apparently only like 10 seconds XD. Oh to be a kid again in the 90s >_
Yeah they could have done without that. Also IMO the "hell" ending scenes were unnecessary as well. The rest of the ride is wonderful and could have been just as amazing without those elements.
Who was smart enough to take a flashlight or other bright light in to film these dark rides? Niiice. If I had to guess, I’d say How documented it this way. Whoever did…bravo.
The three greatest crimes in WDW history. (3)-The loss of the original Hall Of Presidents (2)-The loss of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea (1)-The loss of Mr. Toad. The one time post-1993 I visited WDW in 2004 my most difficult moment was walking in the spot where 20K used to be to my left and Mr. Toad to my right and instead they were gone. Attractions do come and go but Toad was the kind that should have lasted 50 years and beyond.
The ride was removed in 2008 in Walt Disney World when they add a new ride called “the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” and the one in Disneyland at 2004, Country Bear Jamboree (a show for kids and adults)
Actually, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride opened on Friday, October 1st, 1971 at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. And then, it shut down on Monday, September 7th, 1998 so that it would make way for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
Just a random cop. Not a character from the film. In the Disneyland version, they do have the prosecutor from the movie but for some reason, he was left out of the Magic Kingdom version.
The real charm behind this ride is the passion of its fans. 😊
Still love the train effect. That floored me when I was seven years old. I had forgotten how 2D the rest of the ride was, probably because the experience itself was so much fun. 😀
The train effect uses a light to give the illusion of a train in the movie mr toad did run a train
The Train effect is simple, very effective and scared the crap out of me as a 29 year old adult LOL.
One of my favorites they never should've gotten rid of this ride.

Rest In Peace Magic Kingdom’s Mr. toad, he hit some Pooh on the road 1971-1998
So miss this ride. Thankyou for sharing some history!
Well at least it's still running in California.
We’re merrily merrily merrily merrily merrily on our way to nostalgia in particular! Thanks for the video!! 🐸

One of the many WDW rides I wish I could’ve experienced. My mom loved this ride when she was a kid, and I can see why.
Thank you for uploading both tracks! So interesting they did that for wdw. I actually like the Pooh the ride but nothing beats Mr
Toad!

Um, legit English family ready to tour the countryside at 0:33?
This ride scared the hell out of me when I was 5 years old. I had nightmares about that train 😂
Incredible. Thank you so much for posting this!
Thanks for uploading!
8MM film in 1994?! Brilliant!!! 😃😃

I think this got removed bc it had some bit of nudity for disney

My favorite ride as a kid!
I vividly remember going on this with my parents. We all were fooled by the train effect.
Absolutely amazing
Imagine if Spawn were in the Hell scene.... things woulda been different
Awesome... Miss it... Dang it all that kids today can't do it

My goodness that was hard to watch. I’m very sad I didn’t ride this when I had the chance!
That's one hell of a ride😂

IT’S NOT CHEESY
I have a picture of my mom and I on this ride! Miss it being in WDW.
2:40 Well....so much for kid friendly.

No kid's gonna care or even be interested in that. It's only when they became adults that they develop this hysteria about sexuality.

The record breaking toadzilla from Australia brought me here.
This was a good one.
The ride that sends you to Hell.

3:12 - So, this must be before they added that crash effect upon contact with the train.
Another Gem.
The first ride closure of many that signaled the dismal heartbreaking state of the parks today
2:41 I spotted something very inappropriate
😢 can’t believe it’s gone!!! Nothing screamed amusement park more than MTWR!!!
Way spookier than the new ride
How hard would it be to bring this back? Not very. Pretty inexpensive by todays standards! People would go nuts. Cmon Disney!
Between both tracks, the hell's ending in the latter looks creepier.
I think it's because the video camera light mount wasn't on (making it darker and more creepy looking).
I can't remember if this ride had more light than pirates of the caribbean ride.
I miss those days
Praise the lord the ride returns for good
Unlikely
3:22 and 5:54 CAN YOU TRIP LIKE I DOOOOOO
It was a giant train effect.

For me it was kinda too creepy for being fun.
