  • There are a lot of different blogs and videos about making an echo or reverberation effect circuit or device. Like most of them, I too used a PT2399 chip for this circuit but I'm explaining here the basics of echo effect and how to use this chip to immitate this effect. In this video you will come to know how I failed to make this circuit at first attempt and what changes I made to make it work. This is just a small documentary to portrait this whole project. I've given my best to demonstrate and explain about everything related to echo/reverb. effect and how to implement it artificically in audio and musical circuits. If you have any doubts or still have problem regarding certain topics in the video, please lemme know.
    Enjoy :)

    What pin on the pt2399 did you connect the microphone too? Pins 10(op1-in), 11(op2-in), 13(lpf2-in) or 16(lpf1-in)? Also, which is the output pin (to connect the speaker) of this chip? There is pins 15, 14, 12 and 9? This chip, has me very confused. Please clarify some of this for me. Thank you kindly

    • @ElectronicsFreakEF
      @ElectronicsFreakEF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, this IC can be a bit confusing coz it's a mix of analog plus digital architecture!
      So there's no straight way to say as to where is input and output.
      That would be very wrong to say that pin 16 is the input pin because you cannot feed the input directly into it. There are some resistor-capacitor networks before the input. So, please clarify the exact problem you're facing! 👍

      @@ElectronicsFreakEF Thank you so much for replying, I truly appreciate it. Ok, so here is the problem, If you type: “DIY noise generator” on TH-cam, you will see two videos, made by Chris Menes [one from 5 years ago and another, done 2 years ago]. He built an amazing device, using the pt2399 and was kind enough, to let us all see the schematic for it - just scroll down the comments, you’ll see other TH-camrs asking for the schematics and Chris Menes directing them to his Facebook page, once there, just scroll down a bit, and there is the schematic. It looks simple enough but I could not get this chip to sound anything like his does - and most of the other commenters said the same. Maybe he’s left something out, or forgot to put it in the schematic. Chris says: “It’s basically a pt2399 delay chip just feeding back on itself and generating all sorts of noises and artefacts…” I think there might be a clue in that statement, but then again, I’m still just a novice in electronics. How can I/we get this chip to feed back on itself, what connections must be made? Perhaps, you can help us all figure this chip out, to achieve this wonderful device that Chris has developed. What do you think about the schematic? Please let me know, I’ve been racking my brain over this. Thanks again for replying, you are awesome. Cheers!

    • @ElectronicsFreakEF
      @ElectronicsFreakEF  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxwarfield6699 Hey buddy! I saw that video of Chris Menes. It was just a noise generator which is puposedly used as a random music sampler while composing music such as rock or metal.
      While my project is completely different as it just adds a delay or echo effect using its internal DSP (Digital Signal Processor). So it needs an audio source to function.
      Both projects are used for completely different applications. It depends on what objective you want to achieve or where you want to use it.
      I hope you got the answer 👍

      @@ElectronicsFreakEF Unfortunately, you have not answered my question. Seeing as you know more about this chip, than I do, I was asking you, if Chris’ schematic was any good/functional or not, according to your understanding of the pt2399. And if not, whether you could tell me how, to properly connect it, so as to make it sound like his. I know it’s a noise generator, because I saw both videos. Thanks anyway

    I am wondering how I can power this from a 9v battery? Do I need to somehow drop it down to 5v for this circuit?

    • @ElectronicsFreakEF
      @ElectronicsFreakEF  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You need to strictly power this by 5 volts. If you're using a 9V battery then you can use a 7805 regulator IC to drop down 9V to 5V.
      You can use a very low power DC to DC buck converter too.👍
