Not Your Average Barn Find! - The day we dragged home 4 1985 Honda ATC 350X's and a 250R

- People have asked me how do you find hidden gems in someones barn... the answer isn't Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist... The answer is, you build a network... you meet people... you get the word out that you're the dude that buys three wheelers... you stay diligent... and they find you.
This video captures the story of how I managed to acquire 4 pretty decent 1985 Honda ATC350X's and a very decent ATC250R. It took less than a week to play out. All I had to go on was a 20 second video and some text messages. Are they perfect, no. Have I heard them run, no. Are they worth it, I do believe so!!
I made a new buddy this day. I dragged home 5 new tricycles this day. I made a new video this day. It was a good day. The Honda Hoard grew by 5 and I had a wonderful adventure with my daughter. I'd do it all over again.

I actually told a guy that there was a mouse nest in the airbox of one I looked at a long time ago pulled the lid sure enough... I was feeling all smart, then the mouse jumped out...... oh yea i almost forgot Dennis Collins is "outstanding "
Awesome find. I'm partial to 250R's so I'd be surely keeping that one. Hopefully they all find loving homes to be given a new lease on life to live another 35 years.

I could only dream of finding a barn find sports trike in eastern canada. I recently got myself a 1986 250ES that have been sitting since 1996. The original owner bought it new in 1986, still had the original registration and all that stuff but its rusty as all hell. He somehow managed to blew the oil pump and fried the head. Anyways, very enjoyable video as always Preston, keep em' coming!

I think each one can be built with just a few extra parts needing to be tracked down. They're all very complete machines.

I hope someone restores all them. They don’t look bad at all. Maybe just go through them and re-powder coat the frames, and restore the fenders, replace a few small things.
I gave a light restoration to one of them... 2 350X's were sold off the bat to a buddy. The R was sold to a different buddy. The lightly restored 350X was sold to a guy who brought a buddy and before the week was over that guy bought the last one.

I used to find killer deals on bikes like or banshees for like $500-$2000 for a mint one, now a days everything is overpriced, I’m starting to hoard up a few banshees, and I have a Tecate t-4 I got for $500, I’m looking for some front fenders but they’re nearly impossible to find, previous owner thought it was a good idea to race cut them in the ugliest way possible

Those bandits have definitely seen their better days... They appear to have been studded in the past and have plugs.

You will sir! I believe it! Speaking of getting a chance... I'm starting to doubt I'm going to get a chance to rip that go cart on video this year. Snow showed up this week... but maybe we'll get a heat wave and have it melt so I can sneak it in.
I got a real nice survivor 350x on Craigslist a couple years ago for $3400. How much they go for now anybody know? I also got a 85 250R that’s an amazing machine. The guy used to wax the frame he said 😄 Nice score man good job
A nice survivor 85 350X that's all original can fetch over 6 now, but it has to be clean clean clean in my opinion. 86's will bring more because they're lower production numbers. Hard to say though based on no pics of course. The clean stuff brings the big money!

I'm a Yamaha & Suzuki quad fan myself an have some real nice examples: YFZ450R, Banshee 350, Quadzilla 500 , Raptor 700R-SE to name my faves! Not a Honda in my garage. Don't hate em just lots other more interesting machines out there not to mention more valuable 😉

You didn't miss it! I totally moved on... lol. The tecate was an 85 and it was probably 75% together but still needed work and I know know a think about them... so I told him that someone else would absolutely love that machine, but that guy wasn't me.

What are clapped out 350x's going for? I'm looking for one that's in pieces that I can put together myself. I love working on them. So in your opinion what is one worth that's complete but in pieces?
Piece one together using all the parts
They're all very complete machines and all only lack just a little bit here and there to get going. So I think all 5 will ride again!

Ya could be a nice guy and give me one of them 350 X's for cheap. I'm a poor self employed custom Ag farmer, but I live in Mn. but I always wanted a 350 x Honda. Well I guess the search I still on. I got two 200 ses an one 200 big red. I love Honda three wheelers just because you can go anywhere with them in the woods, where as a four wheeler it's hard to drive off trail with them .my friends have expensive four wheelers but are jealous of my beat up $300 200 S which will go pretty much any where in our supper thick northern Mn. Woods. They get hung up and don't have the turning radios as me ,an they get mad and say that they could have saved them selves ten grand and bought one like mine,they always want to borrow it because they think it's a blast and can't believe what it can go threw in really thick woods. Well I'm sure you know that. Rejoice in the Lord always. Later you 350 X King...
Minnesota is a long way aways from NY... I appreciate you reaching out though Steven. I really didn't get them all that cheap unfortunately. Cheap is sort of a subjective word though; means different things to different people. If you keep diligent about finding one though, you surely will!

Disappointing to see how the people
Who already have a plethora of the hard to find units are the ones offered another big group of hard to find units when the rest of the general public struggle to get their own hands on even one.
It's disappointing to see that you haven't watched the 2 follow up videos to this one where you'd clearly see that 3 of these 5 machines have already gone on to new homes... and the other do are undergoing a light facelift before they're going on to new homes as well.
I'm not saying that these aren't hard to find, but they certainly aren't impossible to find either. If you're diligent and consistent with searching, and if you're ready to buy when something becomes available, you can certainly find one. I've owned more 350X's than any other machine...

In the same breath, I’m sure you sell everything for a profit driving the prices of these old relics up more and more for the rest of us. It’s just crappy they went to you first lol. Like hell you’d ever sell something for the same buck you wheeled and dealed for.
Being a Canadian, R’s and X’s of the sort, be it 200’s, 250’s, or 350’s of each model of any version, are impossible to find this many years after production up here. The unicorns that are alive still almost never see daylight. There was never many sold new to begin with up here. I’ve consistently heard we may saw 5% of the new production of Honda’s products, the US saw the other 95%. 2 individual states of yours alone house more humans than my entire country. Our population Canada wide has never supported the initial trike sales. I’m 39 now and I’ve never even seen a 350X in person yet. I’ve wanted a and been looking for a Canadian 350x for years, and I’m very diligent, 2 have come for sale, one in Ontario, and the other further east. And they sell for a dollar you’d hardly believe up here. It’s supply and demand. And when there’s no supply, the sellers demand way way more. Plain and simple. My Canadian dream of owning one of these things for a semi-reasonable dollar is nothing but a pipe dream. And then I watch a video of you loading up four of them, all needing a little bit of work here and there and another 250 R.
So, you're saying that if I take my time to work a deal... drive my truck and trailer about 90 minutes each way with my fuel in the tank on my time... bring these machines home on my dime... I'm supposed to just sell them at that point for what I paid for them. No sir, I would be a fool to do that. It's extremely convenient for you to look at me through this fake, morally superior lens and imply that you wouldn't sell one of these above what you paid. You're just upset that I bought something that you didn't. I'm sorry to shake up your pity party... but that's the truth. You're mad that this deal didn't fall into your hands... plain and simple. I just sold off the 3rd 350X last night after making it nice and pretty. Should I not factor in the time, know-how and elbow grease I put in when I calculate the price? I'll be selling of the last 350X very soon too... It's a shame you came at me guns blazing because for a guy that's never ever even seen a 350X... I may have been willing to work with you to get you one... but you unfortunately lack people skills. Hope you find one someday.
How long is your enclosed trailer?
I believe it's a 24" not including the tongue.
