7:33 Northwestern plays AT USC in 2025. They host UCLA, Oregon, Michigan, Purdue, and Minnesota. Likely its UCLA being played on campus whereas Michigan and Oregon played off campus.
This year (2024) the final two games, both in November, will be at Wrigley Field. I suspect the final two games of 2025 would also be off the lakefront.
Brodie, wow you are making a college football related video!!! Much kudos. Your subs will blow up if you do more CF videos. Especially if you talk about realignment. Waiting on a video from you on the Sharks trade with the Predators. Sharks getting long term goalie solution?
The Lake Michigan views look super unique and cool! Ticket prices pretty high on the after market sites for the first game and its against university of ohio not a big ten team. Id totally go to a game there early season looks super cool with lake michigan views.
I think this Northwestern stadium situation got me interested in watching College Football this year!! Such great coverage as always Brodie, Thank You👏🏽
I am always amazed at how beautiful the lakefront practice fields are. The lakefront setting for campus makes NU a great venue when the weather is good. On a cold gray day with a high wind coming off the lake . . . not so much.
That's going to be one tight stadium. They should have explored those other Chicago stadium options probably. It's going to be freezing cold in those late season games being right next to the Lake with all that wind.
They did. The most realistic option was SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview -- but that is in the SW suburbs and would be very inconvenient for the students who wanted to attend the games. Wrigley and GRate Fields could not be made available until the baseball season is complete (not that either team has a shot, but you have to plan as if they do). Soldier Field has to coordinate with the Bears, so that would be a challenge. It would also be an expensive option. NW Football is not known for their massive crowds. And I don't know if the indoor arenas are big enough. The United Center would certainly be booked with the Bulls and Blackhawks. The Allstate Arena, maybe?
Not all the games are being played at the temporary stadium. Two of them (Ohio State, Illinois) are being played at Wrigley Field this season, and I suspect it will probably be the same arrangement next season with possibly another game played at Soldier Field.
Part of the impetus behind the telprosry stadium is that there are some weekends that sll of the other logical venues are in use between the Chicago Bears, Fire, and Red Stars. The Cubs and White Sox can't really help out before November.
Thank you for this informative presentation on Northwestern's "temporary" football stadium. I have a few corrections for you. Martin Stadium is Northwestern's Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. It already exists and will continue to exist. It is NOT a "practice" field. Northwestern will force their soccer and lacrosse teams to share the Stadium with the football team for the next 2 years. The seats on the West side of the Stadium are permanent soccer and lacrosse seats that the football team will now also use. The lights in the pictures on the East side of the stadium are the Stadium's lights that have been used for soccer games. They are NOT "practice" lights. They cannot build anything more on the West side of the Stadium, without destroying their Field Hockey Stadium. Thus, they are forced to put a few rows of temporary bleacher seats on the East side of the stadium and major temporary stands on the North and South sides of the stadium. The stands on the South side of the stadium will be built on the old practice football field which will not be used for those 2 years. Thus, the soccer and lacrosse teams will continue to play all home games at their stadium, but will be forced to allow the football team to use their stadium on 5 Saturdays this year, and perhaps as many as 5 Saturdays in 2025. With regard to TV, I don't know and frankly don't care. As far as I'm concerned that's TV's problems and we already give far to much deference to them already.
I absolutely love jogging the lakefront district of Evanston where this new stadium is located. First went in 2022 and fell in love. I literally took two days out of a vacation this past June to visit friends in Wisconsin just to spend a few days in Evanston to enjoy a few jogs around the lake/NW campus and grab some food in Chicago proper.
The last time I saw something like this was in the CFL in 2010-ish. The BC Lions dome stadium in Vancouver was renovated and took two years. So a temporary outdoor stadium with a capacity of just over 25,000. No Joke. Aloha Stadium in Hawaii was condemned because it literally rusted out. The university is playing on campus at a temporary stadium with 15,000 capacity. The University of Hawaii is building a new track and field complex because football took over the track and field stadium. No one has any idea when Hawaii football will get a newer and larger stadium.
@@edalder2000 The latest is by 2028, with this fall supposedly the timeline to accept bids from developers in time to break ground in 2025. Also apparently the project has also reduced the capacity to closer to 25k.
@@reverend_wintondupree The original proposal apparently was gutted when the state redirected money promised to the stadium to help Lahaina recovery efforts. The UH response to that was freaking tone-deaf. Just that fact leads me to think this issue can still be thwarted by the Hawaii legislature.
Really "Cool" is right. Wait until the Illini game on Nov 30th and if there is a wind coming directly off Lake Michigan. Then tell me how much fun you are having right by the lake.
Temp stadiums don't have permanent bathrooms. Enjoy the 200 porta pottys they will have lined up there. Especially when the temps are in the 30s and 40s at the end of the season.
Had the video muted when it first started playing, so I totally had to rewind and hit play from the beginning. I will not miss "Here's Brodie Brazil". It just won't happen.
And for the next several to come. And the new stadium seems to be getting smaller (and further away) with each new proposal. IIRC, the original plan was for a stadium with a capacity of 35 - 40k that would open in 2026, but the latest plan now has a 25k-capacity stadium that won't be ready until 2028 - if the State Legislature doesn't try again to kill the project and reallocate the funding toward recovery efforts on Maui.
And that new stadium will be the centerpiece of an "entertainment district". They've become a thing in professional sports around North America and even in Europe, but this is the first time such a district would be centered on a college-football team. I think what's at play here is that the local authorities want to create something that will attract pro teams to Hawai'i. Not the NFL, of course, but a state-of-the-art 25k-capacity rectangular stadium that's being built with rugby and soccer in mind along with American Football could potentially lure Super Rugby, the NRL or even MLS to Hawai'i.
Northwestern fan here. I just became a season ticket holder so that I can go to some games here. Wanted to answer some questions posed by the video. There is at least one night game on the schedule for this season. Those light towers are still in place. I don't know if they plan on adding more temporary lighting for that game. The boxes on the west sideline do look kinda weird, and they will serve as the press/coach boxes. There are places for TV cameras between the boxes. The suites are at the back of the south structure. It should be a great view from up there. They added two jumbotrons on the east sideline and I have heard that they have been slightly angled towards the end zone stands. USC is not on the home schedule for next season. The home schedule includes Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Purdue, and UCLA (and one or two non-con opponents probably, only one non-con opponent on the schedule currently and its an away game). I imagine that they will play five games here and two games at Wrigley next year as well. The dates for each conference matchup haven't been announced yet so I'm not sure how it's gonna shake out in terms of what games are where. I imagine it will work out similarly next year. It will be COLD at the temporary stadium as we move towards the end of the season so the final game there this year is on October 19. The final two home games will be played at Wrigley on November 16 and 30. All-in-all, it is gonna be one hell of a unique atmosphere and I cannot wait to experience it on Saturday.
They aren’t combining the fields, the north field will be the football field as it has the minimal sideline seats for lacrosse already in place. It’s either gonna be cool and kitchy, or a train wreck.
Alabama played many of their home games at Legion Field in the Bear Bryant era, especially the early years of his reign before Denny Stadium as it was then known was expanded. The loss of hospitality industry revenues in Birmingham helped sell the startup of UAB football.
@@edgartorbert819 Starting in 1971, I was at most of those games. I was pointing out that every home game in '87 was played in Bham. Bryant did not want to spend millions on a stadium upgrade, and there was a larger media presence in the Magic City as well. Legion Field seated 72K then 78K while Bryant Denny seated just 61K.
Ryan Field was all bleacher seating as well. Also Ryan Field do not have lights...you just asked yourself "But didn't they play night games?" Yes they did, BUT they brought in temporary lights..which is why it looked so dark.
Soldier Field, prior to the infamous renovation had the majority of its seats in the end zone if I'm correct so if this phenomenon took place in a NFL venue, then it certainly can take place in a college venue...but at least the Wildcats situation is just a two-year hiatus. Two years will zip on by quite quickly and they'll be in their new stadium before ya know it.
@@brodiebrazil Bone chilling with the right conditions, but the Wisconsin game in mid October is the latest game played this year, fans may just luck out.
Jumbotron? I know they have portable jumbotons , but really, how big would it be lol? Looks like they are about 50 ft off the shore of Lake Michigan. Late Oct/Nov games will be brutal. I lived in Evanston , trust me. What will they charge for fans to endure a game at this place ?
Was it on the campus? Looks like it was about a mile away from the main Northwestern campus. Kind of like how San Jose State's football stadium isn't on campus.
Are you thinking of Oakland or Sacramento? I don't know if Sacramento’s new arena can be converted into an NHL-ready arena. As for Oakland, could they do what Seattle did to their arena, and just make massive renovations to make it ready for modern NHL standards? It’s entirely possible, but is the market there? I think Oakland may be more ready now because Oracle used to host hockey. Just get it up to date. Sacramento might be trickier because where the Kings play is an NBA-only arena.
@@cityhawk I was thinking of the Sacramento region as the Bay area could have a regional rival similar to LA and Orange County. But I expect a second tenant at the Sacramento arena would receive less revenue unless the Kings ownership also owned the new NHL club.
@@jimt9245 The issue I see is something similar to what happened with the Islanders when they moved into Barclays. Yes, it was a newer arena, but the seating configurations at Barclays were not suitable for hockey. There were issues from day one. That's part of the problem the Utah franchise is facing trying to make the seating suitable for the NHL, and I'd see a similar problem if that were to happen in Sacramento. I think Oracle is more hockey-ready, it just needs to be modernized like they did in Seattle. It would take years to get it ready, but I think it would work better there.
Why is where they play? The size? All matter? It’s temporary for renovations. Why make it a big deal? All that matters is there’s seats for fans to come watch the games in person. Why does the size and looks matter so damn much?
The temporary football field will also be a soccer field IMO and remain a gameday soccer field after the football stadium is built. Fans want to be near the goals :)
I just don't understand why they don't play at Soldier Field or at the old home of the Chicago Fire and yes its on the south side in Bridgeview but it still seems better than this. SMH
Facts: Wrigley for big games, Ironically, UCLA plays 45 minutes away from the UCLA campus. The state of California would only build a stadium if they could launder 50% of the proceeds, like they did for the Rams new stadium. The budget was 2.4 billion, but it cost over 5 billion.
This seems like the most ridiculous plan ever. Go play at Soldier field. I can appreciate wanting to play on campus. I too love getting back to campus for a college football Saturday. But this low capacity is going to prevent a lot of your fans from getting in. And having the bulk of the seats in the end zone is just going to ruin the gameday experience. If this whole thing were free (which it obviously isn't) then I could see doing it for some low-interest non-conference game in September but using this setup for a high-interest game means leaving millions of dollars on the table.
A lot of 3rd- and 4th-division English soccer stadiums look exactly like this; 75 percent of the seats directly behind the goals, and only a few rows along rhe sidelines. The diehards lime to stand behind the goals for the atmosphere, leaving the few sideline seats for casual fans or those who can't/won't spend two hours on their feet.
Lighting --- they can bring in Musco Lighting out of eastern Iowa which has done temporary one-game projects millions of times in college football in the past. Bleachers --- obviously Brodie you've not been in a Big Ten college football stadium even in the recent past for those comments.
@@brodiebrazil Keep up the great work! I truly enjoyed your look at the Northwestern stadium situation! Your videos are for sure one of my best TH-cam finds for 2024!
Do you know why didnt they just play at the NFL Chicago bears stadium ? like OTHER NCAA programs like Minnesota and Washington did while thier stadiums were built? let us know
There’s no weight on anything or anyone. Going on and on about this. Why is it pretty crazy? The lightning was reconfigured for football. Are you STILL TALKING? Cool temp lakefront stadium while super nice brand new stadium is built. The dude is still tacking about the same things over and over. Damn I’d click tgs stfu button
The Big 10 letting them do this shows just how bush-league the Big 10 is. Another schools university field of a large high school field would be better.
This is like that stretch of interstate that is always laced with potholes everywhere and they decide to finally repair the road. The catch is that it’s going to be closed for two years and you have add 15 minutes to your commute. However when it’s finished the comfort level goes up to 11 and you don’t have to worry about those potholes.
This is just rinkydink. Even the planned new stadium is very small. They should be banished to the Mid-American Conference. The biggest benefit Northwestern brings to the Big Ten is that there are seats available for fans of the visiting teams.

Looks like they are about 50 ft off the shore of Lake Michigan. Late Oct/Nov games will be brutal. I lived in Evanston , trust me.
What will they charge for fans to endure a game at this place ?
The fans are actually really excited for this setup because they can do tailgates by the lake
Was it on the campus? Looks like it was about a mile away from the main Northwestern campus. Kind of like how San Jose State's football stadium isn't on campus.
It will be fun to see this play out.
Off topic - Could Northern California support another NHL franchise?
@@cityhawk Even Oakland would be more central to the Bay Area compared to San Jose in the South Bay Area. Money and people.
Oracle Arena is outdated for an NHL team now in 2024
They're going to build that new stadium in 30 months. Impressive.
Actually their old stadium and the proposed new stadium are off campus about a mile west
They are adding lights for late afternoon and night games...
There is NO REASON WHATSOEVER that while Northwestern builds a new stadium. The Wildcats couldn't play at Soldier Field.
The NFL schedule wasn't announced until May 15, and Northwestern needed to finalize their home games before then.
Why is where they play? The size? All matter? It’s temporary for renovations. Why make it a big deal? All that matters is there’s seats for fans to come watch the games in person. Why does the size and looks matter so damn much?
They are playing Ohio State and Illinois at Wrigley Field
The temporary football field will also be a soccer field IMO and remain a gameday soccer field after the football stadium is built. Fans want to be near the goals :)
The can't sell out a game against a top 10 team so not sure why they even add any additional seating?
They’re not. Think capacity will be 12,000 less than old Ryan.
They design of seats is same system that Golf does main championship 😮 😂
I has like this video cuz is super interesting to me
Lets gooo Brazil!👍😉
I'd expect them to play 3-4 games tops at that stadium. Their big revenue games will be in Chicago.
More people are going watching College Football gamess because of this new field.
Ryan Field had bleacher seating. They had temp seats for rent.
Gonna be a reeeeeeeeeeally enjoyable game day experience in November lol
There are no games there in November. Final game played there is October 19. Last two are at Wrigley Field.
@@TD63462 That makes sense (given baseball will be over) and was smart of them to do. But now I am disappointed lol
Will play Ohio State and Illinois at Wrigley Field.
They upgraded the lighting
Why not take a quick step down and play at Soldier Field??
Why can they play at soldiers field in Chicago
Ryan Field isn’t on campus, it’s a mile away.
I need to get my fur coat, fedora , and NW pendant on a stick and go see the fellas play! Gee willikers!
What’s next a professional MLB team playing in a minor league park ?
😳😳😳
👀👀👀🙈🙊🙉
Lighting --- they can bring in Musco Lighting out of eastern Iowa which has done temporary one-game projects millions of times in college football in the past. Bleachers --- obviously Brodie you've not been in a Big Ten college football stadium even in the recent past for those comments.
fair point!
@@brodiebrazil Keep up the great work! I truly enjoyed your look at the Northwestern stadium situation! Your videos are for sure one of my best TH-cam finds for 2024!
Why don’t they use guaranteed rate field they’re not playing baseball there well not very good baseball anyway.
Northwestern is going to have a better stadium than the Bears.
That new stadium is gonna be great
Will they even fill that practice field?
Difficult situation for 2yrs bur making Hawaii look like a $2B NFL stadium in their situation ha ha
They should just play at soldier field
I think it is cool. Something different.
Do you know why didnt they just play at the NFL Chicago bears stadium ? like OTHER NCAA programs like Minnesota and Washington did while thier stadiums were built? let us know
I love all those Purple seats!
One standpoint you have to laugh. I've seen D3 schools with bigger stadiums. lol
Why don’t they play at Soldier Field 🤷🏾♂️
th-cam.com/video/quFLdKemToM/w-d-xo.html
Here is a tour of the field to answer all these question in this video.
It’s gonna hold 12000
The Big 10 letting them do this shows just how bush-league the Big 10 is. Another schools university field of a large high school field would be better.
This is like that stretch of interstate that is always laced with potholes everywhere and they decide to finally repair the road. The catch is that it’s going to be closed for two years and you have add 15 minutes to your commute. However when it’s finished the comfort level goes up to 11 and you don’t have to worry about those potholes.
You know Soldier Field has to be a shithole when the Wildcats would rather play on their practice fields.
Irrelevant program
yikes!
This is just rinkydink. Even the planned new stadium is very small. They should be banished to the Mid-American Conference. The biggest benefit Northwestern brings to the Big Ten is that there are seats available for fans of the visiting teams.
…a Field is a FIELD 🤷
Chicago stadium 🏟️ play there northwestern team
