This show isn’t appreciated enough compared to the amount of effort it put to staying true to its origins, making great analysis like these really that much better
@@Machuw you’re very welcome. I love rewatching your essays on my favourite show and am very grateful to have such an amazing community to share my love for Daredevil with.❤️Can’t wait to see what you have in store for the upcoming daredevil Disney plus series!!
This is why Daredevil is great: I see the theme of the whole show as Morality. How antagonists view it, how side characters view it, but most importantly Matt's morality itself and his morality being challenged by the antagonists and each season seeing that challenge brought up in a new way and watching as the show progresses, Matt does seem to be slipping to the dark side, but still persists to not be the killer, to do the right thing, no matter how hard it feels.
I 100% agree with you! Morality is definitely one of the main themes of the entire show and I think it's really fascinating seeing how Matt's views are challenged in different ways per season. Really just goes to show how phenomenal the writing it is :)
Especially when the religious context of Matt is brought into it as well as a lot of characters mention it in passing. Wilson Fisk always says im not a religious man, sometimes I wish I was due to the sentiment; he wishes he had the power to not be so immoral yet he feels pain for people like his mother whilst also feeling a void needing to be filled by pain of others. Frank is similar, so is Matt, but they all do it differently, Frank just kills his targets to ensure no second chances, Matt brutally beats them to make them rethink their choices; and King Pin uses his position to gain power over these people, and at that point they might as well be dead seeing how Wilson operates. Kingpin and Frank are right about Matt, but Matt is also right about himself.
Definitely not a villain! Just an antagonist for the show, which is something I think Daredevil handles well. It's not as simple as the characters being a "villain"; there's a lot more to them than that!
Too many Daredevil essays? If you ask me, there's not enough!! This is the best superhero show on any network, I wish there were more creators like you who want to dive deep and oncover the many layers this show offers! Consider me subscribed for this one my dude 🤙
The moment he said that Agatha wasn't a good antagonist, he gained one more subscriber(The only reason agatha felt relevant as a character was because Kathryn hahn is just a great actress)
I think that Agatha is a good character, but not the best antagonist. Agaatha All Along does make Agatha a more layered and realistic and relatable character, but still.
the fact wilson fisk doesnt have special 'powers' make shim more better as an antagonist. i really like powerful villains, when they dont actually have like superpowers because it shows that not all villains need powers to beat a hero, they use their mindsets etc
Right?! It's so refreshing for a show to visualize antagonists without the need to give them some special ability, cause as you said, it makes them even more horrifying that they're able to do these things despite being a regular human being.
The 'pure evil' villain has to have the charisma and writing to back them up. If we don't get to see them chewing on the scenery, or get to watch them crack, they fall flat. Hence Agatha not being that great. They got like one thing right (deeply selfish motivation). [Red explains it better in her Trope Talks over on OSP]
Exactly man. I feel like we're way past the point of villains just wanting generic things as their motivation, we need to be able to breathe and soak in the scenes with our villains instead of just glossing over their potential complexity imo. And hmm thanks for the recommendation, I'll try to check out her video later! :D
I love Bullseye so much in this show! He's the one that I relate to the most (among the villains). Love and acceptance are a big deal, and they can change people. And I genuinely felt sorry for him because of the hand that life dealt him.
Ahhh they did such a good job making Dex sympathetic! I loved how they developed him as a guy just hanging on for dear life, on the edge of insanity. Instead of introducing him as Bullseye immediately like Punisher and Fisk.
I think a reason as to why frank and Fisk are liked is because they have not only believable but justifiable reasons for doing what they do. Frank takes his anger out on the crime of New York due to the death of his family, he’s fuelled by rage and revenge but does want to make the streets safer. Fisk is a childish man with broken past but also has a mature, rationale and intellectual side to him that takes the forefront of how he acts to others, but now and again his mask slips, but even through all his trauma and pain he still strives to make the city a better place, in his own way of course
also about the scene of the argument.i love how daredevil frees himself instead of unwillingly shooting frank. in the comic it shows how matt is more malleable than he says or think he is.but here he not taking franks bs.which is nice seeing the heros conviction being able to surpass diffculties
Yeah, after that episode is where Daredevil was cemented as one my favorite all time superheroes. It just shows that his faith and conviction is his strongest attribute and not his literal superpowers.
I think an amazing scene for Bullseye would be a parallel between Daredevil and the Punisher's rooftop conversation. Only this time, Matt is the one holding someone prisoner. Matt refuses to kill Bullseye but for whatever reason has no other way to contain him at that moment (like leaving him for the cops to find). His only way out is to get through to Dex mentally in order to recruit him as a temporary ally. The audience would see a chance for this because the pair kind of worked together once before, when Matt unleashed him on Fisk. He could try to convince Dex that there's enough good in the world to fight for as a direct contrast to Frank trying to convince Matt that no one is worth redeeming. The end of the scene would also be both contrast and parallel. The clock finishes ticking and Bullseye breaks loose, only despite Matt's efforts, Dex is even more broken than before, nearly killing Matt and massacring everyone in the vicinity.
Ooo that would be a cool scene. I don't think we've seen Matt willingly try to have a conversation with someone he's fighting against so it'd be interesting to see him try a peaceful method, and it still blows up in his face. Very classic Daredevil stuff hahah I really liked ur idea!
I love Daredevil. It's one of my favourite fictional stories I've ever experienced. Even though I love the series is so amazing I do think that there shouldn't be any more seasons. Why? Because from the conclusion of Season 3 I believe that the show's quality has peaked and the arc of Matthew Murdock was complete. The ending of season 3 was the most satisfying ending possible as we actually see Matt get an happy ending with Foggy and Karen and I wouldn't want that ending to be sacrificed as the pain and suffering which the character had endured deserves a happy ending. I also find it much more poetic in a way having Wilson Fisk be the villan of the overall series. Does this mean I don't want to see Charlie Cox's Matthew Murdock again? HELL NO. By this I only want Matt to appear as a secondary character to support other characters like he should be in No Way Home but of course they are probably just going to rush into the Spider-Verse. Random side notes but having Matt fighting in different identities in each of the 3 hallway fight sequences is such a great detail. Aswell as each season empathising 1 of the 3 core components of Matt Murdock Season 1 Hallway fight as the Vigilante Season 2 Hallway Fight as Daredevil Season 3 Hallway Fight as Matt Murdock Season 1: The Law Season 2: HeriosmViglantism Season 3: Faith/Relgion
Wowww what the heck, I never picked up on your hallway fight analysis basically expressing the theme of the season. That's crazy haha, every day I learn to love this show even more. Also, I'd say season 3 can work as a series finale, but I just feel like there can be more story to tell and I'd personally love it if the show went on for a few more seasons, but I completely get where you're coming from.
@@Machuw Yeah, although It's a bit different to your traditional style I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on what you are wanting out of any future projects. For example Spider-Man: No Way Home or the Justice League trilogy
@@weezzy4209 Yeah, I actually am about to do a "pitch" video for Spiderman no way home. It's basically a series where I pitch my ideas and what I would want to see happen!
@@Machuw That sounds great can't wait. Idk if you are interested but here's a bare bones idea I would do for No Way Home. My version of the film would focus restrictly on the identity crisis storyline saving the Multiverse story for the end credits and for either a Spider-Man 4 or Doctor Strange. The film would have two villians which both follow the mcu film tradition of having villians which have never appeared on the big screen before. The villians would be Kraven The Hunter and Chameleon. The Chameleon would disguise himself as Spider-Man and comit crimes to worsen Peter's reputation and chance of freedom meanwhile Kraven would target Peter's friends and family. The film would be essentially be a thriller with Kraven and Chameleon been unsettling unpredictable. Additionally I would add Daredevil into the mix to help Peter clear his name aswell to help Peter relief his stress and train him up to fight Kraven. Daredevil's abilities would also be able to be used to help distinguish the Chameleon. Although I would hate for this to happen but if Kraven killed Daredevil it would be such a painful and unexpected death which would put Kraven high on the radar for hatable villians. That's all for the actual movie as I haven't thought for an actual logical conclusion to the story. For the Multiverse end credit scene it wouldn't actually have any depth but rather it would juat be fan service overload which generates mystery and confusion for a future sequel. I would start the scene by having electro in a comic accurate design randomly attack the city. During this fight, Andrew Garfeild's Spider-Man would randomly swoop in to help. Tom Holland Spider-Man would actually start attacking Andrew believing he's Chameleon. Andrew would also comment on how Electro looks very different. Then Suddenly Doc Ock and Green Goblin (Willem Devoe) would appear aswell. The situation looks bleak for both Spider-Men until the classic Sam Raimi Spider-Man plays and Tobey Maguire swings in to assist. All 3 Spider-Men fight united to take on each villian individually. After the fight has concluded, the classic pointing meme like what Spider-Verse did would happen without making it feel unnatural as Tom as just spent weeks fighting a man who used his identity as his own so he would obviously be suspicious. Doctor Strange would appear and with no explanation or context tells the Spider-Men to come with him.
"You are one bad day away from being me," Punisher. This line resonated in my head throughout season 3 when Matt determines he needs to kill Fisk, when Bullseye appears as the mirror image of Daredevil who kills, and when Matt finally gets the chance to kill Fisk. I wanted to see him kill Bullseye or Fisk so bad but I'm constantly reminded that he cannot.
i loved your analysis! it was very deep and also accurate and i really liked how you pictured every villain what i personally admired most considering the series is that it wasn't afraid of showing how similiar these villains were to matt. fisk tries to protect his city - just like matt. frank tries to protect people from getting hurt because of bad guys - just like matt. dex suffers fron abandonment issues - just like matt. the strength of the main character is how he differs from every single one of them and that makes him better, that makes him a good person
I love every single point you made about this show, this is literally my favourite show of all time and it’s just a total crime that this show got canceled.
I also am going through that DD withdrawal so thank u for this little Daredevil fix. I pretty much 100% agree with this, Daredevil did not miss with its villains, and I also liked how you touched on how each villain is introduced at a time in Matt's story to better parallel what Matt's going through at that point in his life. Yeah, the Disney+ Marvel villains have been.... ehhhhhh so far. Like, when John Walker was first introduced, I thought his storyline would take a Dex trajectory (and if you've seen the most recent episode, YEPPPP), with Lemar being a north star to him in the way that Julie was to Dex. But what makes John weaker compared to Dex imo is that before Julie was killed by Fisk, we as the viewers (or at least myself) were genuinely unsure as to whether Dex would continue his descent into villainy or if Julie could help him get better (or we genuinely *wanted* him to get better - I don't see anyone genuinely rooting for John's betterment), and there was tension in that. With John Walker, at least by episode 3, we (or again, at least me) could be confident that he was already on an unstoppable downward trajectory that he would've reached regardless; Lemar's death was just the catalyst that sped it up. Personally, I would rather John had the more gradual, Dex-like descent as oppose to his buddy's death pushing him over the edge. Sorry, mini rant over. You're completely right tho about the first 4 episodes of season 2, Frank Castle's my favorite DD antagonist by far and New York's Finest is my favorite episode, it's just *chef's kiss* Also, you could literally post a DD video essay every single day and I would never get tired of it tbh
Okay, so I'm not the only one who saw the John Walker Bullseye parallels too! I wish TFATWS had more episodes because I'd like more development with John walker tbh. And I'm glad you liked the video! :)
Great video man. Something I also like about villains is manipulating things around them not through corruption, but attacking people’s fears. Kingpin for most of the time attack people’s fears by going after their families, or having something on them like he did with Nadine. It’s a great trope. Joker was also very good in Dark Knight by doing the exact same thing and having people question their morals of what to do on the ferries.
Yeah, it's cool seeing a villain be intimidating without inflicting any physical force themselves, but by having other people do it for them. A villain that's a master of manipulation is my favorite, just like Joker in TDK; that's a great example! :)
What i love about daredevil’s foes in the tv show is that they are, each in their own way, dark versions of matt murdock. Fisk killed his father, matt lost his dad. Pointdexter got rejected his whole life, just like matt. Frank is the reverse of matt
Ah woww!!! That is true, the villains are basically just paralleling what Matt is going through, which basically adds another layer of sympathy to them. Jeez, this show is just so layered, great point tho dude!
The problem with Daredevil season 2 is that there are two conflicting arcs that could have both been a whole season. If I were to change one thing about the show it is that season 2 would be fully focused on Daredevil vs Punisher, season 3 would be focused on Daredevil vs Elektra and the Hand and season 4 would be focused on Matt's final battle with the Kingpin
Yeah, the two conflicting arcs were quite odd. But, I kinda liked where their head was at, because those first 4 episodes were so well paced with the Punisher. I think splitting the arcs into smaller segments is kinda cool, I just don't think the Elektra arc was written that well.
@@Machuw Elektra's arc should have been a much better story because she is one of Daredevil's most interesting characters and the plot of her coming back into Matt's life after he had come into a ideological conflict with Karen Page regarding the Punisher would have been the perfect time to send Karen away for a bit and do the tragic doomed love story before Karen returns in season 4
I don't know if the Hand is interesting enough to carry a full season. We saw that clear as day with Defenders give them too much time their weaknesses take the spotlight. S2 had the right balance, hiding them in the shadows enough to be threatening. Really the only thing Season 2 needed was to have Punisher help Daredevil fight the Hand at the end. The disarray between balancing his two lives made S2 work well IMO, they just needed to connect in some way by the end.
Fisk is one of the best villains I’ve ever seen. It’s crazy how they could even make me root for him sometimes! And I loved the visuals in the show of the wall Fisk stared at as a kid, the picture Vanessa painted, and the prison wall.
I loved Wilson Fisk in Daredevil and Diaz is my most hated Arrow villain, I believed Diaz could've been amazing, but was just a wasted villain (I kept telling people he was just a wanna be Fisk). The end of Arrow Season 6 even stole the slow motion scene from the end of Daredevil Season 1. And I also love how Daredevil takes the time to flush out each character making us care what happens to them. I will never forgive Disney for taking this masterpiece away from us, because I was so excited to see what Bullseye had in store for season 4.
For sure man! The writing in this show was absolutely masterful and it always makes me sad that we never got a continuation. Hopefully it gets a season 4 on Disney Plus or Hulu or something in the future.
Daredevil is beatiful cause the moments are so slow and we get so much time feeling with the moments and the phasing isn’t rushed what really works daredevil honestly is the best show not my favourite but still I think it’s just so well made and special it’s damn i can’t say it love the show and daredevil will never be forgotten 🙏🏻
@@Machuw but I think it’s good it ended because if it didn’t it would never have ended on this high note and it would get worse and weaker like all the CW dc shows went weaker and weaker imo at least but we now have 3 seasons of beautiful storytelling and for me (that’s enough)
I'm pretty sure Punisher is more of an Anti-hero seeing as how he only kills bad people plus Bullseye despite having some desire to want to be good still chooses to be horrible when shit hits the fan
Yeah for sure ! Regardless he's still an antagonist, but I'm glad they gave Punisher more nuance than just being 'evil' or whatever cuz he isn't. Bullseye is so well written cuz he's trying so hard to be good, but just snaps eventually, which is rlly the fault of his environment and everyone around him, not specifically Bullseye. But UGH- they're all so well written 😭😭
@@Machuw I mean yeah he does have bad circumstances but at the end of the day not only does he choose to be horrible but also enjoys it as seen almost every time he does something horrible
When you started by saying "Kingpin is one of the worst villains" I didn't even register you could mean it any other way than him being the worst as in "most diabolical" the joke went way over my head
They weren't as great but I even loved the hand storyline with Nobu and Stick. I probably wouldn't have handled it if it was the only story unless they make Nobu a great character like Fisk or Bullseye. I just loved the balance of the Punisher and Hand storyline as he had to balance both. He even had 3 storylines with Fisk in jail. As he explained to Claire on the hospital rooftop in Season 2.
I really like the back half season 2 as well, despite it being the weakest in the series. The Hand wasn't handled the best, but I still iked it a lot too c:
Right?! Wilson Fisk is just a prime example of a villain getting under your skin so much that you want them to be defeated, but at the same time, you still sympathize with him; he's written superbly.
dude fuck why do you have so less subscribers. the video quality made me think i am watching some famous channel... loved it.. keep up the good brother
Yeah, I mean it just feels right to have Daredevil in No Way Home right? There's honestly no better way for him to make his entrance in the MCU than this imo. And yeah, I heard about the Kingpin rumors for Hawkeye, if true I think that'll be dope af
Me too ); although there are rumors of it coming back though! Hopefully, Matt Murdock shows up in NWH though, but either way, I can't wait for that movie too!
wont lie, i started watching dd at like 10, and that scene where kingpin just decapitates that poor guy with a car door... i will say i kinda... maybe... shit myself...
I really liked the feminine, feminist can't be writing of She-Hulk but God help me if Matt Murdock is this happy in another series. He better have been existing in a multiverse
I don't think Agatha is as simple as you portray - she seems to have much deeper motivations, but Wandavision doesn't do anything with it for some reason
Fisk is one of the best villains I’ve ever seen. It’s crazy how they could even make me root for him sometimes! And I loved the visuals in the show of the wall Fisk stared at as a kid, the picture Vanessa painted, and the prison wall.
Ahhhh the rabbit in the snowstorm painting is probably the best part of the show. I love how they always find an organic way to use it to represent different parts in his life. The writing is so good for him!

I love every single point you made about this show, this is literally my favourite show of all time and it’s just a total crime that this show got canceled.
Well, rumor has it that it's coming back :))
You're completely right tho about the first 4 episodes of season 2, Frank Castle's my favorite DD antagonist by far and New York's Finest is my favorite episode, it's just *chef's kiss*
Also, you could literally post a DD video essay every single day and I would never get tired of it tbh
Okay, so I'm not the only one who saw the John Walker Bullseye parallels too! I wish TFATWS had more episodes because I'd like more development with John walker tbh. And I'm glad you liked the video! :)
The YT channel Loomar has an unique take on John Walker which you might find interesting.
The main antagonist in "WandaVision" is, i suppose, Wanda herself. Others are just obsticles
Tru, but Agatha is "an antagonist" so she still should've been written better even if she wasn't the main antagonist imo
I understand the withdrawal. It's only been a year since I watched it for the first time and I have seen s1 and s2 3 times and s3 a whopping 5 times.
I knew you were joking with the Kingpin thing but for some reason I still felt my blood pressure rise lol
LMAO. I get that, I even think I felt mine rise when I said that haha
@@Machuw I think mine would if I said it
Daredevil is beatiful cause the moments are so slow and we get so much time feeling with the moments and the phasing isn’t rushed what really works daredevil honestly is the best show not my favourite but still I think it’s just so well made and special it’s damn i can’t say it love the show and daredevil will never be forgotten 🙏🏻
Well said my guy. Daredevil is one of my favorite shows of all time, and like you said, spending so much time with the characters makes it so good!
@@Machuw but I think it’s good it ended because if it didn’t it would never have ended on this high note and it would get worse and weaker like all the CW dc shows went weaker and weaker imo at least but we now have 3 seasons of beautiful storytelling and for me (that’s enough)
@@darthbullymaguire2072 good outlook on it! Although I won't lie I would've loved a season 4 😭
Not tired of daredevil at all. you should do this all day.
You're videos on daredevil are just perfect
Yoo thanks so much for saying that dude, means a lot! And more to come soon 😁
@@Machuw thank you! You made my day!
Fisk was simply really impressive.
Yeah, he's just such a well developed and complex character. Easily one of my all time favorite villains :)
When you started by saying "Kingpin is one of the worst villains" I didn't even register you could mean it any other way than him being the worst as in "most diabolical" the joke went way over my head
Awesome video! i personally never tired with Daredevil related, but in my opinion just do any topic that you want. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much man, and I'll try! :D
The Hand wasn't handled the best, but I still iked it a lot too c:
there's no perfect antagonists here, but they acquitted themselves pretty well.
i hate wilson fisk, which made his defeats even more satisfying. you know when a villain is good when the hero deaeats him it actually feels good
Right?! Wilson Fisk is just a prime example of a villain getting under your skin so much that you want them to be defeated, but at the same time, you still sympathize with him; he's written superbly.
dude fuck why do you have so less subscribers. the video quality made me think i am watching some famous channel... loved it.. keep up the good brother
wOWW really?? Haha yo thanks so much, I'm really glad you liked it :)
I Really Hope to See daredevil again in Spider-man : No Way Home. And Kingpin is rumored to be in the Hawkeye show
Yeah, I mean it just feels right to have Daredevil in No Way Home right? There's honestly no better way for him to make his entrance in the MCU than this imo. And yeah, I heard about the Kingpin rumors for Hawkeye, if true I think that'll be dope af
Bro holy shit please keep grinding. Your content is so fucking good
Haha yo thanks man that means a lot, and I'll keep making videos :D
Awesome video analysis bro.
Thanks man, means a lot to hear! :D
I miss this show
Hyped af for NWH though
Me too ); although there are rumors of it coming back though! Hopefully, Matt Murdock shows up in NWH though, but either way, I can't wait for that movie too!
You deserve more subs man. Now you have 1 more;)
Thank you so much dude! I really appreciate that :D
@@Machuw No problem:) And we have the same opinion on how stunning Punisher's "sad Scene" is!
wont lie, i started watching dd at like 10, and that scene where kingpin just decapitates that poor guy with a car door... i will say i kinda... maybe... shit myself...
LOL 10?! Yeah, I don't blame you dude! I think I'd have been scarred for life 😳
@@Machuw yea, still havr nightmares about it from time to time, but ehhh, that wont leave any long lasting trauma im sure 😌
i need my fix too mate
Hopefully our boy pops up in Spider-Man: No Way Home ._.
@@Machuw i really hope so but with all the casting announcements it’s looking less and less likely
I just subscribed, I’m down the rabbit hole now lol
Lol well I'm glad to have ya man! Thanks for subbing, I appreciate it! :D
@@Machuw yw. You have good taste! Daredevil is my favorite show
@@DJMoy0 hehe thanks, it's my favorite show as well :P
7:11 it’s frank who was gonna shoot him
5:35 zemo.
just rewatched season 3. Maybe for better or worse as u go along and make these videos, MORE Daredevil was god's plan for u
Haha yeah maybe soo >:)
I really liked the feminine, feminist can't be writing of She-Hulk but God help me if Matt Murdock is this happy in another series. He better have been existing in a multiverse
lol Matt can't be happy? 😂 I think it was a little refreshing, but he should be a little more serious in his show
He said 2 and a half 2 years ago
Bullseye was my favorite
Honestly same. I wish we could've explored more of him in season 4 ):
@@Machuw yeah if they don’t bring him back in Spider-Man 3 I was be very disappointed
The best
I don't think Agatha is as simple as you portray - she seems to have much deeper motivations, but Wandavision doesn't do anything with it for some reason
I dislike only because you spoil too much of wandavision cuz damn dude not even a warning
Oops yeah, sorry man I completely forgot about that 🤦♂️ there'll be warnings next time fs!

Ahhhh the rabbit in the snowstorm painting is probably the best part of the show. I love how they always find an organic way to use it to represent different parts in his life. The writing is so good for him!
