being a villain/the bad guy doesn't exclude you from being the protagonist. Light is the villain in Death Note and still is the protagonist whereas L is the antagonist. You can't be both, you're only ever one except if two versions of you exist

its a sensible hobby for the profession, preparing your own food reduces the chances of getting poisoned, good for keeping up fine motor skills, being a chef is a good cover story for infiltration, being able to make your own food when your stuck in a location, etc
This is why I'm never mean/rude to chefs/waiters: 1. They control your food 2. You don't know their background and if their knife skills were acquired 'peacefully'.

the thing is... the "professional, wealthy, high-class ice-cold assassin, who's only job is killing", while a quite popular (if not too overused) trope/cliche in fiction (Hitman, John Wick, Golgo 13), it's not really realistic... prolonged successes of those characters are based on movie-logic-powered luck, doing feats of extraordinary precision and body control which are only mathemathically possible, or... uh... deliberately faulty enemy AI. Real life situations aren't designed to be "solvable" by some "stealth masters", snipers' accuracy over long ranges is greatly overstated in fiction, and, well, even best snipers aren't skilled enough to deliver headshots by ricocheting bullets off the rippling surface of a swimming pool ... then again, such a prolific and successful assassin of high-profile targets wouldn't be known by general public as such, maybe not even as a legend. Bring out your foilhats XD
By not eating his meal you would show that you don't trust him. He would see you as a danger, a threat. By eating the meal you show your trust, it would in fact make you susceptible to poisoning but if you were never his target or a threat/danger to his contract/life/family you shouldn't worry.
It kinda depends on the circumstances. Unless I'm extremely wealthy/important and have my own fleet of bodyguards, chances are he or she could've killed me anyways. If I'm in the crosshairs no matter what I do.... might as well take the last meal. For all I know turning it down means opting out of the easy way.

I am the one that makes sure the meals and many soups give us buff edges in combat from the humble potato soup to the vegetable soup mix and my mighty war hammer

to be fair ...redo of healers writing isnt that good. and i mean i actually read translations of the web/light novel and wasnt just shocked by the anime. when the mc isnt actively plotting/enacting revenge its kind of dull. 2 of his companions are essentially brain washed and the other was manipulated so the only genuine character interactions and developments you get are him the demon lord and his familiar as of when i lost interest. world building isnt that great and i honestly could only vaguely tell you where he went after leaving the castle because the locations didnt seem that important to the plot out side of "this is human territory' and 'this is demon territory'

Im more invested in the world building because mc travels between locations repeatedly and what is in each location matters. This area is know for x crop, this area has an orphanage.
