Jeans Too Long? Easily Hem Them Yourself

  • So I'm gonna show you how to shorten your jeans that are too long, and this is the method that the professionals use. This method keeps your original hem intact. I actually don't like this way as much because you're left with a flap of fabric that you have to deal with. You can do a few things with that flap, but it's still going to be there when you put your pants on and you're gonna feel it. I like the method of just removing it all together and making a new hem, which I did in a previous video (it's in the description probably). Go check it out!

    Instead of lifting the presser foot, try adjusting the pressure of the presser foot. This doesn’t release the thread tension and helps keep the stitch even as you go through the thicker parts and if you are helping the fabric through, there shouldn’t be an issue. Once past, increase the pressure to what it was and the fabric will feed normally.
    Love the content, sir! Thank you.

    Highly recommend the zipper foot. Really helps to get tight to that edge so it looks more natural and it gets over the seems much easier. I've watched all your videos and they've definitely helped me 🤘

    Say, could also do a video on how to lengthen jeans? I am a really tall (2 metres) but slim guy and it is very problematic for to find trousers that are long enough at all.
    Thanks to you at least my tshirts fit properly now :D

    I did this yesterday to a pair of jeans. The cuffs looked okay but they look a little like someone put elastic in them. Do you know how to reduce the thread pulling the hem in? Or maybe that's naturally going to happen a little bit if the jeans are tapered at all. You know the hem is going to be a little bit smaller than where you roll it up to.

    • @StylishDTailors
      @StylishDTailors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm shouldn't look too different even when the jeans are tapered. Did you taper them yourself?

    • @seewaage
      @seewaage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StylishDTailors I haven't tapered them. I'll give that a try. As it were, I don't think anyone will notice the small bit of pulling in except for me. haha 🙂

    5'4" guy here. While I use this method to shorten my jeans, I am not a fan of the weird appearance. At the same time, I have yet to receive a comment on the hem (and my attitude is that if they are noticing, they are standing too close.)
