my jaw DROPPED when you put the stitches in the same direction as the WEAVE of the denim. That's such a skillful detail, thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us! beautiful mend :)
You are a beautiful person. Thank you for sharing your talents. I'm a 73 year old male and after I finish my morning cup of coffee, I'm going to sew my jeans. Thank you and Bless you.
Thank you , I get lost in people over complicating things and loose interest. You have a wonderful way of thoroughly explaining while not to make as dry as burnt toast. After watching your video I’m going to give it a go . Thank you again , appreciate
Thank you for the clear, easy instructions. Some jeans colors I want don't come in a short length, now I can buy them and hem them up myself without losing the look of the original stitching.
Loved this tip on hand sewing hems! My daughter's bf wanted me to fix his jeans I have 3 sewing machines but need to do these by hand because I have some disabilities. I think I can do this! THANK YOU!!!
I would have gotten straight As in school if my teachers were as clear and easy to understand as you! Thank you very much for the great video. I can definitely tell you know your stuff and are very passionate about it.
Perfection!! I'm going to use this on 2 new pairs of jeans that just need a little hem adjustment. I was going to do it by the machine, but I hate having to get it out, find thread, wind the bobbin with that color, etc.! This is exactly what I needed to see! Thank you!!!
I've been sewing for year's now practically self taught .Also alteration's on the side including lot's of hemming mostly Jean's,i have at the moment a pair of my own white Jean's that i want taking up so i'm very thankful i came across your video ,a game changer for sure .Thank you so much .😁💖
That was the best video and audio instruction for hemming jeans that I’ve ever seen. I do have a sewing machine, and now that I have seen how it works by hand, it will be easier to do by machine. I will do the first part by machine and the second part by hand.
Thank you so much for your easy to follow direction! My jeans are hemmed and they look just like they did before I hemmed them! You are an excellent teacher.
I didn't feel like unpacking my machine today, but my daughter really wanted her jeans hemmed. Perfect! The denim thread disappearing stitch was amazing! Thank you for sharing!
I'm sick with covid and feel the absolute worst but the way you explain things is so helpful and you explain it in such a kind way! I will definitely be watching more of your videos
Thanks for this! Yes to shorten Jeans or create shorts from an old pair. Never learned to use a sewing machine but willing to sew by hand for occasional work. FYI: the shiny metal thing is a "thimble"- used to protect your fingers/thumbs from getting pricked!
This an amazing video, you are a gem , thank you very much indeed. Just what I needed to hem my husbands jeans, the cost of having this done by the tailor cost more than the jeans ! Now I've saved your videos forever to help with all heming of trousers. I wish I'd had this knowledge when my sons were at school, still better late thsn never. In England we call that a- Thimble , which is used for hand sitching . I really appreciate you , with very best wishes from London, England 🌹
Yep! Totally agree !! Lol . She is spunky, energetic, great personality and wow …so knowledgeable. Always enjoy watching her in action. I would never be able to do what she does to adjust , change and give your current wardrobe a new “life “ . I just don’t have the confidence yet with adjusting clothes. But but but , I will try the smaller projects on inexpensive clothes to build some competency over time.
Not a sewer by any means, but just finished shortening some 501s by this method and they look great. No, it is not an invisible fix, but only those looking for it will notice.
Thank you for your clear instructions. I shall try this on my jeans. The ring you used on your finger to help push the needle through is called a thimble. The ones I've used are more like a metal finger cup than a ring like yours, although the ring type might be easier to use.
Awesome video! Thanks for explaining & showing all the steps so clearly. Great tip about stitching in the direction of the weave for better matching too.
Amazing! First time hemming up jeans. I usually take them to the tailors but I didn’t have time to wait, so gave it a go and I can’t believe I did it! Thank you for the easy peasy instructions! If I have time, I’ll definitely be doing the hems myself ☺️
@@DowntownTailoring I'm working on two pairs of flared jeans so it's a wide leg hem...It's tedious but I'm looking forward to the results! Thanks again!
@@denisen.wagstaff7938 keep in mind that this method might not work for flare jeans if you need to shorten them too much as the original hem might be to wide to be placed on the new position. Cheers
@@DowntownTailoring Yes, I was concerned about that but I only needed to take up 1/2" and I think they came out really well! It took me all day for two pairs but I did them - thanks to your great instructions and video! Thanks again!!
I will do this on my nice bell bottom jeans before cutting 😮. Thank you this is such an excellent method before deciding to cut 😊 Love all your video tutorials. 💕💃🏻
Such a good tip pulling the thread and the thumb. I use wax and I do the same with my thumb but I had to learn the hard way! Lots of frustrating tangles! Lol
wow i need to hm some jeans and went searching youtube - love this technique! will need to get better thread and a sturdier needle. looking forward to trying - didn't really want to cut off the original hem
Hi 👋 I used this video to hem my pants. The only thing I did differently was fabric tape and iron to secure the extra material after hemming. My trousers look great! Thank you for sharing your tips 🤗
Thank you so much. I was able to adjust a child’s jeans and keep the extra length for when they grow up! My first time with invisible stitching, too! Muchas gracias 😊
❤is very nice, and practical, some time l stitch on the seems and at the front when I’m in hurry, I always carry a needle ,the thread sometimes you can find it inside the garment
Great idea if you only need to take up a small amount - I think it could feel bulking if you were shortening more than maybe 2" and it could affect the hang of the jeans. But for a quick do-it-yourself fix, this is super easy!
One time I had jeans I wanted to wear the next day. They didn’t have a hem - just a “torn” edge look at the bottom. So I just folded it once inside, and used a catch stitch by hand. I meant it to be a temporary solution, but it’s 2 years later and I’m still wearing them. I think something about having the tiny stitches on the outside looks kinda like a couture top stitch, so it actually looks pretty nice I think.
I did exactly this last night (before I found the video), even the measurements were the same. I didn’t use pins though, I ironed the hem into place and then started sewing.
I have a video request - since we are going into the holiday season, I would love to see you do an alteration on sequin or beaded material. How do you secure it so it doesn’t all unravel when you cut? What do you do when you take it to the machine so it doesn’t break the needle or get stuck in the feed dogs? How do you manage the bulk in a hem or seam? Beads and sequins are so intimidating that so far I haven’t tried.
Yes. But I'm afraid I won't be able to have it on time as I need to record it and edit it. Anyways, I did record a short that I can post with one trick or two at the end of this week. Stay tuned 😉
Just hemmed some jeans today following your video and they turned out fantastic (even though I'm not a very experienced sewer). Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for this tip! I have such a problem creating new hems on denim bc the thread comes out wavy, or the look of the hem is new "new" compared to the factory hem.
Another great video; a bit too fancy for the jeans I hem/wear, but I think it's a great way to hem without a machine, and, perhaps, leaving enough material for mistakes. Thanks. YVR

Thanks for the clear instructions, I don't understand why some people want to make it seem so complicated! 🙄
