Apparently, the budget was 5 million, according to wikipedia. Currently, it's being projected to reach 15-20 million on its opening weekend, so maybe we'll get that prequel/more sequels after all?
I'm so glad that these two LIKED the First Blair Witch Project. So many people piss on this movie, I was starting to believe I was the only person who liked and was genuinely scared by that film.
Yeah people are really rough on the movie now, I think because it is very nontraditional in that it shows and explains very little (which I actually think is the film's greatest strength.) I still remember seeing it for the first time and SHAKING because I was so scared.
There was evidence of space and time manipulation in the first film. The group follows a compass north and somehow wind up back at the same log they had already crossed. The Rustin Parr house was burnt to the ground after he was arrested but Heather and Mike found it at the end.
Yeah, Mike kicked the map out of frustration, he wouldn't have messed with the compass. He didn't think Heather's map was useful but he never showed any grievances with the compass so that wouldn't make sense for him to mess with that. Also, that still wouldn't account for how the Parr house was found intact.
That's what I hate, I think Doug can still be hilarious, but his co-stars just aren't. I skip every skit now, when I used to love them when it was just him.
According to Red Letter Media, the cast in the first one had almost no idea what was going on, and essentially the directors would do things like, shaking the tent in the night, making weird sounds, etc I actually consider the first one a good found footage movie. It actually looks like a found footage as opposed to say, "Paranormal Activity" or something like that. Wherein they have the main characters have jobs convenient to how quality the footage is "Oh I'm a web developer andn techie so..." Glad this sounds enjoyable, and that you and Brian had a good time.
People are speculating that the light was a part of the witches time travel powers. That flash of light was sunlight, a whole day passing in almost an instant, creating the feeling that nighttime lasts longer. Which would explain why they were so shocked seeing it, a day literally passing in front of their eyes.
If the Blair Witch really has the possibility to alter time and space, what would have been amazing is if the kids went back in time when Heather and Co. shot Blair Witch à la Back to the Future 2 where the first movie and the sequel coexist.
KandiStomper don't get me wrong, I love the guy but I was trying to make it through the whole video, listening while doing chores and shit and I just couldn't. Once you start hearing it, it's too late.
It's been two hours since I watched this movie. You don't know fear until you're constantly checking the back seat of your car and just waiting for some supernatural shit to suck your car into the sky and fucking fling it like a goddamn frisbee. I. Cannot. Fucking. Sleep. Also whaT THE FUCK GUYS. BRADFORD, YOU DIDN'T FUCKING WARN ME ENOUGH ABOUT THIS. GODDAMMIT, BRAD, THAT TWIG SCENE IS NOT JUST "AMAZING" I NEARLY THREW UP. FUCK.
You guys should check out the Good Bad Flicks video about Blair Witch 2. He explains some things about the studio involvement and how they pretty much ruined an otherwise decent idea for the movie.
@ August West That's the premise of his show and why it's called Good BAD Flicks: He reviews movies that a lot of of people consider BAD but he likes and breaks them down to show us, the viewers, the good that he sees in them. It's not that he loves every movie he's ever seen. He likes all of the movies he reviews and those are the only kinds of movies he reviews. He realizes that there are more than enough people out there who already review terrible movies, as it is. I love his channels and his reviews. Even when I absolutely HATE some of the movies he reviews, mainly The Happening, I respect his views and he always makes a really good case for why he likes these "bad" movies in the first place.
The whole camera stunt is a neat modern reference to Greek mythology o.o She used a camera instead of a brass shield, and instead of Medusa, it was a witch
I think for this movie, the fact that its so similar to the first makes sense. It made it seem ritualistic with the rocks and stick figures and walking in circles leading to the climax in the house and the mirror paradox part when she runs into the attic really made my head spin.
I like Blair Witch 2. My biggest problem with it was that the characters came across as "characters", whereas the characters from the original movie came off a lot more realistic. And I did think the ending worked for the movie. Sorry you guys didn't like it. :( Glad to hear the new one's decent though!
They can try making the Blair Witch games into spin-off movies or a tv series. Volume 1: Rustin Parr Volume 2: The Legend of Coffin Rock Volume 3: The Elly Kedward Tale But for being video games... they need a good writer and directer to translate them into a motion picture.
You guys missed something when that chick with the leg falls from the tree, I was looking closely and for a split second a fucking hand grabs her arm and causes her to fall.
I'm guessing you guys might have missed it, but when the black girl, her name was Ashley btw, was climbing the tree for the drone, while she's reaching out for it something seems to shoot down from above (possibly a hand) and grab her arm for a second. That causes her to startle, lose her grip, and down she goes. I will agree the whole twigs and stuff in her leg was stupid because it literally went knowhere.
Where is Brian? Is he still doing these things or did he move away or something? He's one of my favorite stoned gremlin people and I haven't seen him for a while.
Casual sadism towards little brats plus idiocy? Maybe they had bets running too. Who knows? Mysteries of the universe. As a mum myself these guys would end up praying for the Blair Witch to kill their sorry asses after I'd be done with them though LOL.
The girl had a camera in front of her that she was using as a light source. She had to keep pushing it forward because the tunnel was too small to crawl around or over it.
If you want a movie about a foot that gets really weird watch Bone Tomahawk. It's two hours of Patrick Wilson hobbling along as Kurt Russel, the old guy from Six Feet Under and the dude from Lost heckle this poor man who's leg is broken and can barely walk. Also it's an amazing horror movie plz watch
Am I crazy or was the witch only visible for like less than a second? I really only got the vaguest sense of her shape, did I miss a good look at her? Also, why was she not visible in the camera at the end when it was pointed backwards, or was she and I just didn't see?
I liked this one too. The only thing that would've made it (just a touch) better is if Heather Donahue actually had had a small cameo near/at the end. In all honesty, that's kinda what I thought (hoped) they were gonna do at first. That would've been really cool, I think. As it is though, I think this does make for a far superior sequel to "The Blair With Project". I don't even count the 2nd one, honestly.
I love the original blair witch but i can see why people don´t like it. it´s because of the first 30 minutes where they´re just trecking in the woods. it helps to build a sense of false security but a lot of people get annoyed nothing´s happening. That´s why tension is hard to do right now a days because people have the attention span of a child on cocaine
Eh, I guess I can agree with that. Though to be fair, there are plenty of films with just as much buildup, but the buildup is far more interesting due to better characters, actors, and settings. Alien and Jaws come to mind.
While I didn't find the original Blair Witch to be even remotely frightening, I did like it and appreciate it as a film and an avant-garde development in the history of cinematography. Although the story was at times lacking for me, the Blair Witch Project excelled in understanding the characters and developing them throughout the film, particularly with the advancing hysteria and mental breakdowns as the characters became more lost and ensnared in the myths of the Blair Witch, which was something else I found compelling. The background and mythology of the Blair Witch was well-designed in the way it is revealed by the locals and connected individuals, set-up as the basis for the characters' film-project, and referenced throughout the film as the characters come across more of the infamous locations within the myths and encounter disturbing occurrences during their project. I do not find the film to be perfect or even scary, but I did find it to be compelling and at times suspenseful, and I am glad that I watched it. To me, the Blair Witch Project is more-or-less a very fascinating art film.
You guys missed a detail with the jump scare where Lisa is staring at her tablet. Her friend didn't come from the side at her. She actually came from behind her, but she wasn't visible in the camera footage for reasons that are clear later in the movie.
Because the time shifting was effecting the cameras. She stared dead the camera recording behind her and also the tent and then her friend appears right behind her, and the camera wasn't catching that. Even if she did appear right beside her, the camera footage would have picked it up as well, but it didn't. I thought it was weird and might have been an editing thing until the next scene plays out with the two townies talking about being lost for five days.
The scene where the girl was pulling something out of her leg: It was hair, like the hair that was entangled in the Blair Witch twig symbol that the other girl picked up. The one that snapped in half. I didn't realize why she snapped in half, until I read that leg trauma girl broke the twig symbol and it acted as a voodoo doll to the girl whose hair was in it.
I love this film...and I don't usually get claustrophobia-but damn, the end of the movie really did make me squirm. The original to me of course will always be the scariest of the genre, but this sequel was very satisfying. I've never seen "Book Of Shadows", so for me...this WAS the sequel and I'm going to ignore the 'other' sequel for sure.
The solid theory of Josh and Mike going crazy and killing Heather is basically thrown away in this, even though it makes the most sense. Also this one doesn't have the raw authenticity to it that the first one had. It's just soft reboot qualities and aspects that we've already seen before.
At the 3:55 mark, when a train horn in the background, I just noticed the two beams of light between Brad and Brian, so I was like, "OH SHIT! Is this a snuff film?"
I felt like the first 2 acts of this movie had some ok scenes, but I felt like it escalated way too quickly. Like in one day, all of this stuff happens that took like over 3 days to happen in the first movie. And Right after they break that one stick figure, it goes from 0-100 and with the buildup that they had, it just didn't work for me. There wasn't enough tension built, so by time shit got crazy, I just wasn't into it. But Once they enter the house though, that's when I started to really enjoy the film. The last act was the only redeeming thing in this film for me. Just my opinion though and great video guys! Really enjoyed your comments about the film
Assiman I wouldn't say it's the only good one. There's plenty of good (if not great) found footage movies out there. I just think that Noroi is at the top of the list.
You know what's so depressing about this movie? It made $45 million worldwide, and was considered a box office disappointment on a $5 million budget. The original movie cost $60,000, and made back $248 million worldwide.
Hey Brad have you seen Ghostwatch? It's a BBC program that aired in 1992 but was presented as a live special and actually caused a panic in the UK. It's also what inspired the creators of The Blair Witch Project.
Spoiler alert ahead for if anyone hasn't seen it yet..... So, the way I understood it. the witch was able to twist time for different people. So when James went into the house and Lisa was outside, while everything was happening with James, everything was happening with Lisa. I didn't quite pay that close attention to the difference in their scenes time wise, but I figured time moved slower for one while the other it moved faster. I don't know, it made more sense in my head. heh
paranormal activity at the ending of the movie waited like 10 minutes before running there credits after a blank black screen. Blair witch ran the normal credits immediately lol referring to 20.44 min
I remember watching the first Blair Witch Project when I was 10 years old on late night TV. It has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. When I saw the trailer for this new movie I instantly cringed and automatically assumed it would be terrible. But after watching this review I'm actually excited to give it a chane.
13:06 Hey! I love Hypercube! It's a horror/sci-fi movie using quantum mechanics to kill people. Just because the ending makes no sense doesn't ruin the trip. And if you had enough time and enough drugs, Brad, I'd get super high and explain it to you.
I remember seeing Book of Shadows on an autumn afternoon with practically NOBODY in the theatre. I think the only reason I had any attraction to Blair Witch 2 beyond that day is because it's a fairly gorgeous movie with its cinematography, but fuck me if it makes any damn sense at all. I've watched it a fair amount of times, and it just doesn't sort itself out. Far too objective of a storytelling viewpoint that leaves you dangling out on a limb when the end credits roll.
4:40 could you clarify as to what type of ending you are referring to? PS: is the movie better than the trailers? Because the trailers make this look extremely annoying.
I think some points about this movie that make it even more interesting is that when asked about why they showed the witch in this movie the director said they didn't which leaves even more interesting questions like what were the monsters we saw could they have been past victims after all one thing about this movie that the creators said we would see was what happened to heather...so I'm guessing she was the monster shown in this movie.
Did you knoe that in the original Blair witch, the director didn't tell the actors what would happen at night? Their reactions are 100% real during most of the scares.
Watching the first five minutes and hearing how you like the original Blair Witch Project... Man, I expected to see you rage on stuff like this, but maybe it's because I see you and Brian tackle so many shitty horror found footage films over the years that I've gotten used to it.
Yeah that's good. Keep interrupting Brad to say, "like like like like like like like like" or to just pause for a period yourself, guy on the left. Interrupt somebody to not know what you're gonna say yourself. That's good.
Word Unheard Ach! Locking the door takes out some of the fun. We don't all know or look like each other you know. That's a bit racist. Well...... perhaps from behind Still, a little racist. Heh heh!
It's one of the few horror films I like
Yeah people are really rough on the movie now, I think because it is very nontraditional in that it shows and explains very little (which I actually think is the film's greatest strength.) I still remember seeing it for the first time and SHAKING because I was so scared.
I liked that movie too. I remember seeing it in theaters.
Blackcatloner Awwww, you saw it in theaters.....I was to young at the time so I saw it years later. I would have loved to be part of the hype.
I saw it a year later believing it was real. Even after I found out it was fake I still loved it.
The image of Brad watching BW2 in the theater with his Blair Witch shirt on made me super sad.
Well, I do know of one...
Kinda reminds me of the people who saw Phantom Menace on opening night
Yeah, it's kinda like the time I wore my Batman shirt to see Batman V. Superman.
There was evidence of space and time manipulation in the first film. The group follows a compass north and somehow wind up back at the same log they had already crossed. The Rustin Parr house was burnt to the ground after he was arrested but Heather and Mike found it at the end.

He didn't think Heather's map was useful but he never showed any grievances with the compass so that wouldn't make sense for him to mess with that. Also, that still wouldn't account for how the Parr house was found intact.
But the original was more subtle. It wasn't all in your face like this one.
Scariest thing in this review: wide-eyed no-glasses Brad in the first second.
😂
Id love a cinema snob book of shadows: Blair witch 2 review
NC did one, Snob should do one too!
The thing is, Brad is funny, and NC is a shadow of his former self who somehow still has fans who think his new skits and shitty actors are funny.
+Wyatt Townsend I don't like his skits or actors, but I still enjoy his reviews. Not as much as use to though.
Definitely do a Snob Review of Book of Shadows.
That's what I hate, I think Doug can still be hilarious, but his co-stars just aren't.
I skip every skit now, when I used to love them when it was just him.
According to Red Letter Media, the cast in the first one had almost no idea what was going on, and essentially the directors would do things like, shaking the tent in the night, making weird sounds, etc
I actually consider the first one a good found footage movie. It actually looks like a found footage as opposed to say, "Paranormal Activity" or something like that. Wherein they have the main characters have jobs convenient to how quality the footage is "Oh I'm a web developer andn techie so..."
Glad this sounds enjoyable, and that you and Brian had a good time.
Looking at the camera screen to see the witch is the classic medusa trick that I totally bought in this film.
People are speculating that the light was a part of the witches time travel powers. That flash of light was sunlight, a whole day passing in almost an instant, creating the feeling that nighttime lasts longer. Which would explain why they were so shocked seeing it, a day literally passing in front of their eyes.
5 seconds longer than the Nicolas Cage Left Behind review. You broke your record!
Especially surprising considering it's for a positive review.
The streak... is over?
If the Blair Witch really has the possibility to alter time and space, what would have been amazing is if the kids went back in time when Heather and Co. shot Blair Witch à la Back to the Future 2 where the first movie and the sequel coexist.
Game: Take a shot everytime Brian says like: Die within 2 minutes.
lmao you posted exactly what I was thinking about posting.
its true though. wouldn't make it past 5min before dying.
KandiStomper don't get me wrong, I love the guy but I was trying to make it through the whole video, listening while doing chores and shit and I just couldn't. Once you start hearing it, it's too late.
Another movie were my only interest is "Thank God it's out now so they'll stop putting trailers in front of every damned youtube video"
Though admittedly Brad's praise is making me consider watching it when I don't normally watch horror movies.
Same here, It's actually a good movie.
Agreed.
I think Brad and Cecil are friends. Pretty sure brad checked it out
the only problem with Good Bad Flicks is that guy loves almost EVERY movie he's ever seen. it's hard to take him seriously.
@ August West
That's the premise of his show and why it's called Good BAD Flicks: He reviews movies that a lot of of people consider BAD but he likes and breaks them down to show us, the viewers, the good that he sees in them. It's not that he loves every movie he's ever seen. He likes all of the movies he reviews and those are the only kinds of movies he reviews. well, by 6 seconds we finally have a new record!!
those are seconds not minutes
I like book of shadows because of the ending
I think the flashlight in the house was Heather. The Witch had her in a weird time warp she couldn't get out of
the lights in the house was day light basically the witch making day time pass so quick it seems like permanent night
the first paranormal activity was the movie that didn't have credits. that's what you're thinking about.
don't forget about the Scooby doo parody short on cartoon network.
That was the thing that made me aware of the original film. I'd never heard of the film until I saw that parody.
That short was incredibly well done, it managed to get the atmosphere so well.
The whole camera stunt is a neat modern reference to Greek mythology o.o She used a camera instead of a brass shield, and instead of Medusa, it was a witch
Your friend sounds like Seth Rogan
And looks like him. And once played a "Doctor Rogen" in one of his movies!
I think for this movie, the fact that its so similar to the first makes sense. It made it seem ritualistic with the rocks and stick figures and walking in circles leading to the climax in the house and the mirror paradox part when she runs into the attic really made my head spin.
No massive spoilers. You guys really must've liked this movie lol. All right. I'm sold. I didn't have much interest in seeing this but why not. Thanks
I like Blair Witch 2. My biggest problem with it was that the characters came across as "characters", whereas the characters from the original movie came off a lot more realistic. And I did think the ending worked for the movie. Sorry you guys didn't like it. :( Glad to hear the new one's decent though!
The actors needed more time with the material, they all come off as actors playing characters and not actual people.
They can try making the Blair Witch games into spin-off movies or a tv series.
Volume 1: Rustin Parr
Volume 2: The Legend of Coffin Rock
Volume 3: The Elly Kedward Tale
But for being video games... they need a good writer and directer to translate them into a motion picture.
You guys missed something when that chick with the leg falls from the tree, I was looking closely and for a split second a fucking hand grabs her arm and causes her to fall.

did this beat the record for longest midnight screening?
Where is Brian? Is he still doing these things or did he move away or something? He's one of my favorite stoned gremlin people and I haven't seen him for a while.
There's actually a behind the scenes on book of shadows showing what you said about the executives is 100% true
Must be so cool to hang out with Seth Rogen
The length of this review got me nervous for a sec, but it's good to know this was actually good.
I remember when my day camp showed a bunch of 9-6 year olds the first one. I remember I couldn't sleep at all after seeing it.
Why would they do that?
Casual sadism towards little brats plus idiocy? Maybe they had bets running too. Who knows? Mysteries of the universe. As a mum myself these guys would end up praying for the Blair Witch to kill their sorry asses after I'd be done with them though LOL.
I like these reviews since it's not a requirement for everybody to agree which makes it more interestng.
so are we getting a bare wench project Snob episode.
Yeah, a tie in episode like he did with 'Suicide Squad'!
You guys summed up Blair Witch 2 perfectly, good concept but bad movie
Village Square Mall had more than two screens back in 99. :/ They were a full fledged theater. Still is. Only reason that mall is still open.
Who filmed the girl in the tiny tunnels? The Blair Witch herself? :D
The girl had a camera in front of her that she was using as a light source. She had to keep pushing it forward because the tunnel was too small to crawl around or over it.
Ah thank you! That's the only shot I couldn't explain lol
The only thing I remember about Book of Shadows is that it had a pretty hot goth chick in it.
If you want a movie about a foot that gets really weird watch Bone Tomahawk. It's two hours of Patrick Wilson hobbling along as Kurt Russel, the old guy from Six Feet Under and the dude from Lost heckle this poor man who's leg is broken and can barely walk.

Robert Welliver I'm pretty sure she manifests in front of her brother at the end. its kind of hard to seez but she's there.
I love the original blair witch but i can see why people don´t like it. it´s because of the first 30 minutes where they´re just trecking in the woods. it helps to build a sense of false security but a lot of people get annoyed nothing´s happening. Just saw it today. One thing I noticed that I don't think you guys did is when the girl is climbing the tree. She didn't fall, she was grabbed.
26:00 barrage of "like"s.
The scene where the girl was pulling something out of her leg: It was hair, like the hair that was entangled in the Blair Witch twig symbol that the other girl picked up. Hey Brad, you ever seen Noroi: The Curse?
The best found footage film I've ever seen. Quite possibly the only actually good film in the genre
Assiman I wouldn't say it's the only good one. There's plenty of good (if not great) found footage movies out there. I just think that Noroi is at the top of the list.
watching it now. they have the whole movie available here on yt.
bevrosity Yeah, that's a nice incentive for people to see it. It really is a hidden gem among horror films.
well it's getting a little more attention lately. i also thought The Poughkeepsie Tapes was a pretty decent found footage movie.
You know what's so depressing about this movie? It made $45 million worldwide, and was considered a box office disappointment on a $5 million budget. The original movie cost $60,000, and made back $248 million worldwide.

Did Brad ever end up reviewing The Lost Coast Tapes? Or at least commented on the movie. Any indication that he has seen it?
I remember watching the first Blair Witch Project when I was 10 years old on late night TV. It has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. When I saw the trailer for this new movie I instantly cringed and automatically assumed it would be terrible. But after watching this review I'm actually excited to give it a chane.
So is this the first good horror remake?
THE THING!?
Not according to the critics and audiences.
***** No, I mean the Kurt Russell movie. It's a remake of The Thing From Another World.
Despite the fact it bypasses the Book of Shadows
It just sounds like this new requel thing Hollywood likes to do.
Book of Shadows 2 would be funny.
And I would LOVE to see a version of the Bible written by Stephen King.
Him or David Cronenberg.
it was a centipede, she pulls a centipede out of her foot.
13:06 Hey! I love Hypercube! It's a horror/sci-fi movie using quantum mechanics to kill people. Just because the ending makes no sense doesn't ruin the trip. And if you had enough time and enough drugs, Brad, I'd get super high and explain it to you.
I liked the fact that the last girl was like: "I'm not goin' in the creepy house!......apparently I AM!!!!!!"
Did you watch Double Toasted's review before this?
If you can find it there is a fanedit that fixes the second one.
I definitely thought the bright lights in the attic was an alien twist.
do fans recognize you at the movie's or in the parking lot while filming?
Cinema Snob and Brad in the same car. Liked.
Actually someone/thing pushes the black chick's arm when she's trying to reach the drone, that's why she fell.
I think some points about this movie that make it even more interesting is that when asked about why they showed the witch in this movie the director said they didn't which leaves even more interesting questions like what were the monsters we saw could they have been past victims after all one thing about this movie that the creators said we would see was what happened to heather...so I'm guessing she was the monster shown in this movie.
what did you think of the computer game for Blair Witch?
I think the found footage movie with no credits might be "The WNUF Halloween Special." I don't remember seeing any credits on that movie at all.
Is there any Blair Witch themed food products that you can review
Like a Blair SandWitch?
Lost coast tapes or Willow creek?
i keep feeling like there should be something called the blair witch chronicles
Btw, they could’ve simply called it “The Woods” and it would’ve been find.
Brian =Seth Rogen minus Annoying Laugh :) Made me not feel so bad about badly wanting to see this movie! lol
I think if they do more sequels the idea of doing a movie about getting lost in the woods will get old.
Are they talking about #1 or #2?
Hey Snob, which horror film did you more Don't Breathe or Blair Witch?
How many times have cops pulled up to you guys while you were recording wondering if you were doing drugs in the parking lot?
So...who found and edited all of separate head piece cameras into a "found footage" movie?
Same person who edits every found footage movie.
god
wait, what'd they do with the stick figures?
Yeah that's good. Keep interrupting Brad to say, "like like like like like like like like" or to just pause for a period yourself, guy on the left. Interrupt somebody to not know what you're gonna say yourself. That's good.
Excuse me, it's Mr. Guy on the Left.
Stoned Gremlin Productions
Oh yeah! That's what I meant. Mr! Guy on the left. My left. Brad's right side.

Ach! Locking the door takes out some of the fun.
We don't all know or look like each other you know. That's a bit racist. Well...... perhaps from behind Still, a little racist. Heh heh!
The best part of Blair Witch 2 is *"THAT'S FUCKING BULLSHIT!"*
One of the best parts of Blair Witch 2 is when that guy goes "I swear to Christ!" the way he says that cracks me up! XD
After we saw that my friends and I looked at each other and said "Well this certainly IS Bullshit..."
THIS WAS THE WORST HORROR MOVIE EVER
agree with everything you've said, I don't know why so many critics disliked this movie
2:40 That is exactly what happen to Blair Witch 2.
did high blood pressure guy smoke all the tweed? he looks wasted, brad just looks green???
