What is the procedure if running Monterey OS to begin with?
Worked perfectly on my sister's Macbook Pro mid 2012 with Catalina OS. Couldn't find the MacOS at the AppStore so i used the link left in the comments... then just needed to uncheck the "Automatically keep my Mac up to date" icon when downloading the MacOS Catalina and followed every step in the video. Thanks a lot.

After completing the Catalina install (4:16) the system reboots but doesn’t take me to the next step to select region settings - It reboots to my Main Drive. Any suggestions?

@@Rickmakes, because of your videos I got the courage to try to fix my late 2012 MacMini, the 500GB hard drive just died, I don't understand why this happened, because I don't overused it. I guess the data is lost. I'm going to upgrade to 1TB hard drive....Hopefully it work out 👍

Thanks for this video! I have a question about this method after install Catalina in new SSD Drive, data like certificates and provisional profile and sshkeys , and apps with same configuration also copies in windows "Transfer information to this Mac"??
It transfers the whole user directory including hidden directories (i.e. ssh keys, etc...), preferences, data, certificates, etc... If you are using Adobe software... I'm not sure about licensing for their applications. I don't know how it authorizes computers. It might be best to deauthorize on the old drive and authorize on the new drive. I don't know if the authorization transfers over.

Not sure on that one. I don't have experience with OpenCore-Patcher.

Hi Rick. When I try to download Catalina to my macbook to send to my external ssd, it says "not enough space". Can I use a different macbook before installing my new ssd in my 1sr macbook? I already have Catalina on the macbook that I want to install my SSD in.
I think that will work. You could also try this method to recover some hard drive space: th-cam.com/video/kon_F7qXQnE/w-d-xo.html A quick overview, when you run the Bootcamp setup, it will do some cleanup on your hard drive. You then quit before actually installing Bootcamp. It can sometimes recover a significant amount of space.

Unfortunately I don't have either of those to test. It is possible that you would have to reinstall them. It is also possible that they would just require you to re-enter a product key or re-activate them.

I followed this video step by step… everything worked fine up until I Swapped out the old hard drive with the new one (4Tb Samsung 870 EVO SSD) on my Mid 2012 MBP. When I power up the laptop I see a flashing folder with a question mark on the screen. Any help will be appreciated
Maybe the hard drive connector is not totally fastened down.

I’m my previous upgrade of ram and and installing the 500 GB hard drive and keeping everything the same was much easier with the extended journal it wasn’t difficult at all… but this one is difficult… can you offer any suggestions…
If you are having hard drive issues, I would try replacing the cable: th-cam.com/video/XbEiodR9igQ/w-d-xo.html They have been known to cause issues. It might not be a bad idea to re-install the system on the drive. You can probably do it without erasing the drive but I would recommend a good backup either way.

This may have helped people, but, you should change the title. This is not cloning. You just installed an OS on an external drive.
I just used Time Machine. 1TB spinner out, 500GB Samsung SSD in. Bam
In my app store I do not have the option for Catalina as it does not show up. Any suggestions?
If you search for macOS in the app store, do any of the other versions show up?
It didn't work directly in the app store for some reason but when I searched on Google then saw the download in the app store it showed up with the cloud download symbol. Worked perfectly. Now I just need to follow your video on replacing the HDD with the SSD inside my 2012 Mac Mini. Speeds are already quicker using the SSD over USB 3. I had already increased the Ram to 16 gb years ago.
I also had the same issue. No OS was coming up. Had to find an Apple support page to get it. Weird because it downloaded via the App Store. Not sure why it’s not searchable.
@@FastActionFishing It's kinda funny how SSD over USB 3 is faster than the internal spinning drive.
