Hello. I eating Greek yogurt again, reminded me that it being made, creates some bad for the environment byproduct. Looking into it, the waste product that kills fish & plants when dumped, is called Acid Whey. And it's bad for the environment, and hard to get rid of in other ways, because it is so acidic.....as soon as I heard that, I thought, well, I'm no chemist, but aren't acids nuetralized by just adding some base? Am I missing something? Are bases hard to make, in that amount? Does it make Acid Whey worse, or more useless? Or did no one really think to do this?
in the reaction of HCl and NH3, since it is a reaction between an acid and a base it is a neutralization reaction but we earlier mentioned that all neutralization reactions produce water and salt regardless of it being neutral, acidic or basic. I understand that NH4+ and Cl- will form NH4Cl which is a salt but why doesn't this appear in the chemical formula like in other reactions where the formula of the salt resulting is clearly appearent and why is there no h20 when it is a nuetralization reaction or is it just that you didn't write it? Thank you so mcuh for the great videos.
Great video, thanks. Only one suggestion: When describing neutralization as a reaction where "Salt and water are formed" the salt is not formed in molecular form, it rather finds itself dissolved in solution. Seems quite obvious but I find this choice of words misleading for chem beginners (although this mistake can be found in 99% of chemistry books).
Professor DAVE can you explain me how we could find the result (salt) which is received from neutralisation. I am still confused with how to find the result. I have checked many videos and still did not get the answer to it
Enthalpy of neutralisation of strong base and strong acid is 57 kj/mole.But if one mole sulphuric acid gives 2mole H+ if we chose magnesium hydroxide as base which gives 2mole hydroxide ion per mole of mg(oh)2 , what will be the enthalpy of neutralisation in this case ?
good question! it depends what you are trying to learn but i would tend to suggest: general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, biology. those should be done in that order. also classical physics, modern physics, astronomy. those should be done in that order. if you connect them all from general chemistry to astronomy, and pepper in mathematics as necessary, boy you will know a lot!
i still don't get it how do i write the complete ionic formula and the net ionic formula and how do i tell if its a neutralization equation from a precipitation equation
@@ProfessorDaveExplains Wow you replied. Thanks Sir. Btw, why does the weak base (NH3) become a weak acid (NH4+). Shouldn't a weak base form a strong acid?
I don't like professor dave.. just because you talk to me like a kid doesn't mean ill understand it... I think hes a good teacher he just needs to explain in more of a simple manner and quit with the patronizing tone.
There's nothing patronizing about my tone, you're projecting something that isn't there. I speak slowly so that people have time to listen and read and think as they watch.
Getting myself into med school with your help one topic at a time
Me too, this guy is Brilliant.
Nice, good luck!
I hope u got in , im in med school rn and watching the legend’s video 💀
Wait you guys are doing this at med school, I have to do this year ten GCSEs
That’s the goal

I just love how he explains
These videos have helped save my chemistry grade this year!

Hey Dave, great video! Could you please make a video about how to create an electromagnet? Thanks!

Hi.. can you tell me 3 in which neutralization point can be determined.
It would've been wonderful if we had these types of fantastic resources when I was growing up. :, )
Hey Dave wanted to thank you for all the content you upload.
You are helping me and my classmates here in Israel get into medschool !
Lots of Love!
You need chemistry for med?
How can this man summarise a whole big topic in 6-5 minutes videos, and makes me understand everything ❓I mean TH-cam ahhh nice Job

when does ammonia will act as strong base and when does it reacts as weak base ???

You just need to combine H+ and OH- for simple cases such as HCl and NaOH.
It will also work in similar to
HBr + KOH.
HI + LiOH.
love your work man keep it up

Incredible explanation
super sir your teaching is fantastic.

How do we know that NH4 will donate one of it's hydrogens to water when it reacts with water?
Mathematically? Compare the pKa of ammonium to the pKa of hydronium.
This is a great video, I love your channel :)
Can you make a video about organic Chem reaction scheme?
i'm not sure what that means but i have like 100 organic chemistry videos so check them out!
Thank you professor Dave😊
Neautralization Value 80% in baking soda, what does it mean ? can help ? i am not a chemist. 🙏🏼
Is the formula at 4.06 a typo? I'm learning on my own so could well be wrong but should NaOH really be just OH- ? If not where does the sodium ion go?
why is H2S+NaOH basic?? won't the acid donate 2H+ and the base 2OH-? please help
hydrogen sulfide is not very acidic
Are all neutralization reaction irreversible
Thanks, i speak spanish and i need speech in English about this
What a lovely guy! Thanks professor ❤️😄
Why is it not NaCH3COO + H2O but Ch3Coo- +H2o? where is Na
The the comprehension part, i didn't understand how the last mixture was basic, can someone explain pls?
edit: is it because of balancing?
sodium hydroxide is a strong base

I though the stronger the base is, the weaker its conjugate acid is and the weaker the base is, the stronger its conjugate acid is.
