I make art constantly. Every day, all day. I just don't have time to film/edit it. I put a lot of pictures on Instagram. Find me there if you want. For the last 4months I've been working on a 20 ft. Tall sculpture. Done soon.
Love watching you create those pieces. Your clear description of the blades and tools you use and adapt for your shaping is invaluable. Thanks so much for sharing . Rob
Amazing like always! I’m almost done with a sculpture and thank you for all your inspiration. I rescued a piece of Cedro Macho (Carapa guianensis) and Moralon (Coccolobis grandifolia) from a collapsed church during the earthquake here in Puerto Rico. The church was built in 1831 and the wood it’s beautiful.
It's an excellent improvement over the Proxxon for many reasons. I think I bought the grinder without the extensive kit on ebay for $150 a couple yrs ago. I have 4 Proxxon long neck grinders and regularly replace the power switches, circuit boards, and power cords. The Merlin keeps on ticking.
Great piece. Good tip on how to use that blade, thanks for showing the close up of the edge. If I saw it advertised I would've thought it was just meant for cutting not sanding or grinding. Good job, thanks. 👍 Ps; if you like redgum, try getting your hands on some jarrah. Even more contrast in colors.😉
I've made one piece from Jarrah. Beautiful! But it turned brown because I wasn't aware of UV resistant finishes at the time. (i know i'm late, but i overlooked the comment!)
I hope this finds you well, Salem. Are you going to make new videos? I missed watching you sculpt your magnificent forms. Hope to watch you soon. With love from Nebraska.
Yes. I have a few that just need editing. I wish I could just outsource that part of the work. Honestly, I've lost a lot of interest in social media. The Tech Giants are working against us.
Salem Barker I know exactly what you mean about social media. You just need some time away from it. I know YT is messing around with the rules regarding the amount of money a YTuber can earn which impacts your desire to make content. I’m sorry that YT feels it’s profitable to crap on some influencers and not others. If another platform opened up I would move on over. However, on the stingy side, I really love your art and have been missing you. Take care and be safe. 💕
@@SalemBarker agreed my heart is wood but depends on what the piece tells me I won’t let trends detour my vision. Sometimes social media and Internet make it feel like everyone is doing whatever is trending and it’s true but there’s nobody like you and nobody like me so your art will survive any trend I’m always excited to see what you’re working on next.👍
Amazing video. And even more amazing sculoture. It definitely reflects your style. I just got the speedcutter and now I want the termit. Thanks for the inspiration. I love making sculptures but its hard in an apartment. I can't wait to get into a house where I can finally have a place to carve.
That was neat! The sculpture alone is awesome.. those blades are mean, and you made a better review for their products than they have for themselves. The only other videos I could find on this product were in a language I don't understand. Apparently it's badass at cutting just like ripping on a circular saw.

Hey Salem, I finally made it to your newest video. Nice information and technique demonstration. May have asked but what is behind the air filter? Noticed some pretty good suction drawing the dust. Also your use of a cradle rather than a clamping saw horse. Thanks!
I thought the smaller version of this because of your video and it doesn't fit my machine because it's only 3/8 inch hole and my grinder has a 5/8 in shaft. So I haven't been able to use it yet.
Beautiful work, Salem! I noticed that you removed the blade guard from the Merlin 2. It would be much more useful without it. Any tips on how to get it off?
@@SalemBarker Thanks! Too easy. Tool company says voids the warranty, but I don't care. A tool that does not do what you want it to is sometimes more dangerous.
@@simslowry7931 I agree! Their attorneys tell them to write stuff like that to help reduce lawsuits from idiots that shouldn't be using tools in the first place .
Oh Salem I am so glad to see you make something again, I miss seeing you work. I would like to see you work on everything you sculpted.

Carving wood with a history adds something really special to the work!
Fantastic piece. Thank you for the fair appraisal of the tools. Certainly tools to consider.
Wonderful work, Salem. I've been considering the Merlin. It's good to know you really like it.

Most flowers are symmetrical. ;) Cool work. We're always proud of you.
Its numerically symmetrical but not measurably.
(It's, not its). I say so cuz yur smart .

Thanks Scott. I certainly will.

This is amazing I’ve been enjoying combining epoxy and wood in my pieces as well
The resin infusions increased my sales quite a bit, but now it's becoming a trend so I'm doing far less of it.

You are very talented Sir! Well done, your work is amazing!
Thank you much!

Thanks a lot!
Thank you for sharing your technique
Thank you!
Hi Salem,
I am new in the wood carving, you used a dust cleaner on 07:23 min , what kind of a machine is that
The dust filtration system is made JET. Very common machine. The handheld thing is just a gun that sprays compressed air.
Hey Salem, I finally made it to your newest video. Nice information and technique demonstration. May have asked but what is behind the air filter? Noticed some pretty good suction drawing the dust. Also your use of a cradle rather than a clamping saw horse. Thanks!
Great, thanks for sharing.
Big fan of your work. Question...in your opinion...if I was going to buy one long neck mini grinder...Proxxon or Merlin 2? Thanks.
Also, any source for a Termit. Can’t find one due to pandemic import restrictions.
I thought the smaller version of this because of your video and it doesn't fit my machine because it's only 3/8 inch hole and my grinder has a 5/8 in shaft. So I haven't been able to use it yet.
I didn't know they made a smaller one. Hopefully you can find a smaller grinder for a good price. I used to have a Makita with the little shaft.
Beautiful work, Salem! I noticed that you removed the blade guard from the Merlin 2. It would be much more useful without it. Any tips on how to get it off?
Thanks!
Remove the flange by gripping it with pliers and unscrewing it while holding the spindle lock button. You'll then be able to remove the guard.
