My hubby started balding at 19 just like his dad. I met him a few years later, and while I had a chuckle on our blind date cause I wasnt expecting it, it was quickly a non issue because he had such an authenticity, and before I knew it, I was drawn to him. After a few more dates I was head over heels! His eyes listened when I spoke, the warmth of his arms... sigh... and its still here after 25 years. 🥰

Im so sorry, man. I had mine was a little worse than yours at 14-15. It hurt so bad, I wanted nothing more than to have good hair, good looking hair. I tried all the things, except hair transplant (dont have the few grand for a trip to get it done). I wore long hair in a deep desire to hide it, until I just gave up last year and went shaved. It is what it is. We just had a bad roll of the dice. That said, you are a good looking gentleman without, so take solace in that.

Used to have sucha beautiful hair it was the most unique amongst my peers then but man i got it from all sides got mocked and made fun of by everyone i remember getting my hat taken off my head so they can have some laughs at me i even remember some mothers who used to compare me to their kids and how healthy they got it shit was truly painful i remember the long nights when i used to ask myself why me and why now kinda closed off from society for a while while struggling with tremendous self hate and anger i even remember the amounts of dreams i used to see of me having a nice haircut and they would seem sooo real until i wake up anyways at the end i had to accept it and make peace with it and live my life which i did am alright now but sometimes i cant help but wish if i still had my beautiful hair

As a wife and mother to a son, it is something they may go through, and I'd like to be there for them and as clued up as possible with how this will affect their confidence. I had a good friend in high school, Thom, he was receding at 15-16. His dad was a teacher there, and he was very bald on top, with bushy sides. No one ever said anything about Thom (at least not while I was around) even though his hair was ginger (in the age when gingers were picked on) and thinning. To this day (I have not seen him in person since high school, but he is quite a famous clown (of all things - he actually always wanted to be a world famous clown and now he is.) but I have seen him online and his hair is thin, almost non existent, on top, but full on the sides, and still ginger. I love that he embraced it, but I hope it wasn’t heavy in his youth, although I imagine that in silence (he never spoke about it) it was heavy. Makes me sad that people go bald, but I love that people don’t let it define them, I am sorry that others may judge you for something that is completely out of your control.

I always love watching these reinventing videos. I even make a playlist of my favorite shaves.
I started balding at my sweet 16s but it hasn't progressed as fast as that guy in the video. But when the time comes, and I am definitely ready, I will shave my head. Bald is bold, beautiful, and ubiquitous, guys.
Legit we never pay mind bald guys when we were young, only when we overfixate on our hairloss, do we panic. But such, life is so much larger than our locks

i'm a 34 year old woman with a full head of thick hair, and yet for some bizarre reason i keep getting recommended videos about dealing with being bald. it's not just here on youtube, but reddit recommended me the bald subreddit too. i don't know why i spent so long looking it at it but i was really touched how supportive all the guys were of each other about going bald LOL. i must have made my algorithm even worse watching this. this dude looks better bald than with hair, rock it!

Because of a drunk driver ramming head-on into my parent's car when I was only 10 months old, I've spent a good chunk of my life without hair. Shunt revisions took place twice a year, and my entire head was shaved both times. It made me self conscious about being bald because it not only revealed my surgical scars, but I associated it with being weak and sick. I started wearing dreadlocks at 15 because I never wanted to cut my hair.
At 26 I had an operation, and less than half of my hair grew back. The hair on the top was completely gone and the sides of my head came in really thin and stopped growing after about 6 inches. It's been 7 years since my last operation, so I was able to grow my hair as long as you see in my profile pic (it's from February), but my medical problems have flared up again and I'm going back under the knife in a few weeks.
I won't have anything left to grow back except for a patch on the back of my head. So, I pretty much don't have a choice anymore. I will very soon look like Frankenstein's monster and I will have nothing left to distract from it. Instead of hearing, "I like your dreads!", it'll be, "Ooh! What happened?! You poor thing!" I hate that.

Hair loss is complex, but androgenic alopecia can reliably be halted using finasteride. Side effects are relatively well understood as well as their mechanisms via blockage of 5ar-2 & 3 in higher doses. Dosing standards need to improve, ideally by dropping initial dosage to 0.25mg per day as that exerts around 75% of the effect on 5ar-1 (the enzyme responsible for male pattern balding), at a quarter the dose, with way lower side-effect risk. We know from it's use in prostate cancer treatment that higher dose is associated with greater side effects, but the maximum effect on balding stops at 1mg, and is about 90% strength at 0.5mg.
Minoxidil doesn't need to be 100% understood to understand it's function, utility & limitations. We know enough to know who responds and who doesn't, and why; non-responders lack enough enzymes in their scalp to break minoxidil down into it's active form: minoxidil sulfate. If we can devise methods to make minoxidil sulfate stable, even non-responders could benefit from it, and it may even be more effective than normal minoxidil since it's more chemically active.
But honestly? The biggest thing that needs to improve is information and accessibility. If people are too scared to even try preventing it, or don't know how to prevent it, they're *going* to go bald and either regret it, or learn to deal with it.
Personally I'd love to see some 5ar blocker that *only* targets 5ar-1, so it would have practically zero psychological side-effects, but the likelihood of that is fairly slim since finasteride has been deemed 'good enough'/within acceptable risk.

Literally every one of them appeared more masculine and “cooler” with a shaved head. I kept looking for examples of people who looked better with hair and I just couldn’t.
