Tango??? NOT SO MUCH!! THE WOMEN ARE BEING DEHUMANIZED AND EXPLOITED* - the *MEN WHO *EXPLOIT THEM ARE ALL ON the *PREDATOR SPECTRUM* -- TIME TO MAKE IT STOP 🛑
I've seen a lot of comments here talking about whether or not to legalize prostitution. While that is an important discussion, it is not what the speaker chose to present about, and some have argued that the speaker's claims should be totally discredited because the topic is absent. I believe these people are missing the point -- the important thing is that she has taken the initiative to tend to people who were endangered in the field of prostitution. Sure, have your opinions on legalization, but recognize that the work she is doing is bettering and saving the lives of people who otherwise have nowhere to turn.
Amen. Glad you get it. Most commenters don't. Change takes time. Antoinette Welch and The Hannah Project are helping people here and now. Not sitting idly by hoping for a possibly different future.
I agree. Until you can guarantee workers safety, you shouldn't use buy or endorse that service. Ignorance doesn't excuse complicity in slavery or abuse.
greenbutater Yes, legalization of prostitution is a completely separate topic. People who bring this up here are simply deflecting because this talk made them feel guilty in some way
decriminalization of prostitution is the only way to protect women, organize themselves and get help form the police and NGOs, Its the pimps and human traffickers who need to be punished, not women who are among ths most vulnerable of all societies in this world
Yeah. Al Capone only got rich as a gangster because of the Prohibition. Everything just went underground and the murder rate went up. Anyhow, how hard is it to become a cam girl these days?
Police should do more talks - they see more trauma than ANY OTHER profession. She knows whats she's talking about compared to many others that talk about the same thing.
That's because they cause the trauma! Rape the second most reported complaint about law enforcement nationally, and even though sex workers are not the ones who file these complaints, we are probably experiencing a higher incidence of abuse because it seems to be a common occurance.
Good parenting can only happen when you have a society that has support systems that foster healthy citizens , with affordable housing, living wage, universal health care....justice, addressing sexism, racism, prejudice and so on....it take a village to raise a child.....in other words a society
BlackRock Tile so your saying society should only allow certain persons to breed since the issue of such unions is a societal responsibility. Or maybe your saying responsibility is a social thing, but folks can do whatever the fk they want with the costs shifted to everyone else. Frankly it doesn't matter what you are saying, because either way it's delusional..
I believe good parenting comes from good parenting. Education can teach children that their parents are violating them. Children in dysfunctional families keep secrets.
Really? When it comes to Tedx talk comments, half of what I've encountered is the standard MRA troll talk, peppered with thoughtful comments like "I'd suck those tits."
And some Ted talks have this thing called evidence and reasoning. Incidentally the Hanna project is just a cute name for clemency.. Been around for some time now.. Like most of Ted it's about politics not policy..
Oh Jesus Christ why should it be illegal for these women to be making money off of what everybody is doing anyway come on guys were all fuking these women are at least getting paid for it!! Like come on now
Wow, that was real, and HIT HOME: THANK YOU!!!...This is so important. Everyone HAS VALUE! ...my 27-yr-old sister, Hanna just died from heroin being shot into her back where she had an open wound from a flesh-eating bacteria, and this was a bit of a shock to suddenly hear "HANNAH" project. I only wish she could have had some help. I just learned that she went to jail 18 times, and once she asked a guard in an L.A. jail to help her, because she was being beat up in the cell, and the guard said, "You are going to have a long night." He refused to assist or protect her when she asked. She was 5'3", blonde, blue-eyed, and the most sensitive, loving human being, and she spent ten years living in this Hell, and selling her tiny body for heroin. It is such a tragedy. We were adopted by monsters, Hollywood monsters, and I can not fathom what she suffered through. We always had fun together and were very close before she went down the path of drugs. Our mother would not let us be alone together, because she knew Hanna would have someone to tell the truth to, and that would heal Hanna and convict our adoptive mother and father for their evil deeds. I reached out to Hanna regularly, and she could only -- sometimes -- successfully type back on Facebook messenger: "Love." She died Oct. 22, 2016, 12:22am, Sherman Oaks, CA. June 24, 2017 she would have been 28. RIP Sis!
Are you sure, I've never heard anyone use like that... if you don't find a vein it's usually painful and you won't get a lot from it. Not as bad as hitting an artery, but that's accidental. I can't see someone trying to use that way, would probably get more from smoking it, and less painful.
Your story breaks my heart, I hope you're able to find the healing that you deserve. Trust God that Hannah is in His loving arms. Jesus is the solution to troubles like you've seen
The problem is that the majority of people who use prostitutes really do not care what life they live or have lived. It's a sad, true reflection on society that there is a high percentage of people who will use others for self gratification. What needs to change is for jobs to be more profitable than selling yourself. Don't leave abused women to choose between a low paid job or a job they can't manage because of their history/low self esteem.
Legalizing hooking can also include not arrestib John's bor workers. If it's ok for housewives to fk in exchange of husband providing I fail to see difference. Marriage is a loophole for free service
these comments are absolutely disgusting 80% of them: "I am/I know a sex worker who is happy, so _obviously_ I know enough to speak for _all prostitutes_ and I will loudly defend prostitution even if the _vast_ majority will horribly suffer because of it" just because you, as somebody who probably lives safely and stable, have positive experiences with it, does not mean that you represent the HUGE market of prostitutes there are sex slaves, women afraid for their lives, women who have been brainwashed, women who suffer, women who have been trafficked, women who are threatened, women who's family has been threatened, women who are _traumatized_ and who can't get out partly because of people like you defending a horribly broken system but hey, you get to earn money with sex, and you have fun with it, so yeah, go, complain about this woman who _actually helps suffering victims_ , who actually deals with statistics and recovery programs... go, complain about the people who help victims, and defend the system that creates them, well done you make me _sick_
Antoinette Welch, the speaker, is recounting her experience of prostitution in the black market- where you see a lot of desperation, drug use, violence, rape, human trafficking. People who are pro prostitution want it moved into the white market, want it decriminalized. In this way workers and clients both can seek protections that eliminate abuses. If you look at a country with legal prostitution it does not remotely look like human trafficking. It is a means to Protect the suffering that you point it, by legalizing it.
If 80% of comments are from happy sex workers, how do you know that "the vast majority will horribly suffer" If you stigmatize and criminalize prostitution as a whole, it is MUCH HARDER to help the people who are forced in this profession. If you decriminalize, the people who want to do this profession can do it, and it will become much more obvious where the problems lie, because sex workers can report problems to the police. I am a sex worker in a country where sex work is legal, and I DON'T speak for all prostitutes, but i know ENOUGH woman who want to do this. If we just accept that women have a sexuality and can choose to do this job out of their own free will, We can work together to eradicate the trafficking and forced prostitution problems.
the woman in this video flat out lied several times, i.e. "no little girl EVER wanted to be a prostitute", "every prostitute hated it every day", etc. the woman in this video blames prostitution 100% on men but you're mad at people truthfully rebutting those lies. I personally hate prostitution and pimping, but I've been around... maybe as a former cop she heard over and over hookers claiming they had no other choices or options, but as a man that used to be out there in them streets, especially as a young teenage troublemaker... turning tricks is a woman's game and a woman's world... dudes don't be pimping like movies and rap songs say, most pimps got turned out by hoes and they get swallowed alive by the bitches often... at least 99% of women selling sex can stop any second they want +
I broke down into tears when I felt the women's value individually. I wanted to make sure no one would ever find the pimps, traffickers, & tricks, comfort all of them when they mourn as a cosmic father, healing their emotional wounds through encouraging, uplifting, & inspiring these women.
That's amazing work. There are so many facets of abuse of women including human trafficking and I am so proud of you for taking the initiative to help truly serve and protect.
I don't know how TED speakers maintain such calm and impersonal tones while speaking about the most unacceptable realities. God bless this woman and everyone she wants to help.
I think many of these speakers work for years with unacceptable realities. It’s a long and sometimes difficult labour of the heart, mind, body & spirit to gain an ability to deeply accept the unacceptable & speak calmly, care deeply, and make the extraordinary difference they do to better our world. It’s so beautiful
I love TEDx Talks, they allow people to share true painful stories, and thats a really big step to rise awareness and ultimately healthy changes. To share resources like the Hannah proyect, so people can reach out for help, and also that more often than not, we are not alone with our problems, somewhere, someone is experiencing the same problems, and someothers with better chances, are working to help them. ❤👍
this is why this lifestyle shouldn’t be supported or shown as a good example, most people get into because of very bad reasons that people don’t want to fix. If a woman is selling herself for money its not because she truly wants to but because there is definitely a point in her life where things took a dark turn. We should be encouraging people away from that harsh lifestyle and to improve themselves by not selling themselves. We should be helping these women and not promoting in industry that summarily denounces them and objectifies them as objects to be bought and sold. That is not humanity, that is the opposite.
If prostitution was decriminalized they'd be able to go to the police bc their 'pimp' beats them or a client attacked them. There WOULD be so much more happy women who love their job. The women who dont want to be there can leave, and because of that there would be less pimps and less attackers because theyd be getting caught. You can never get rid of the problems, but its the same with so many other things.
@@silentvoice4970 also, new zealand isn't the only place where it's compeltely legal. It's also legal in the Netherlands. I'm not completely sure, but I think it's legal in Australia too. And it's at least partially legal in Japan.
If I found out that one of my friends had a conviction for prostitution I'd lose faith in the system. That's not something a person should be criminalised for. And criminalising it just adds to the social stigma of it. The Hanna project sounds like a good idea though.
There's a good TEDx talk, comparing the .. legalization of prostitution. Per the presenter - the favored model is decriminalization, which is only in New Zealand.
making prostitution illegal makes it dangerous. so police are part of the problem. legalize and regulate and focus on the real crimes like trafficking not someone paying for college or a mom making ends meet. or some john that just needs some intimate contact to feel less loanly.
brent847 sounds good, doesnt work. have fun as police trying to sort out the law-abiding from the criminals. all it does is kicking human traffic and forced prostitution into high gear. and for what? so a bunch of useless pimps and the small amount of - actually existing- "happy hookers" dont have to learn a proper profession? yeah, no. it is really stupid though that the prostitutes themselves are being criminalized. they are the victims here. its like punishing junkies, it makes no sense and helps noone.
Decriminalising prostitution does help and does work. Mainly because they get basic worker rights, which includes the right to insist on safe sex and charge clients if they don't comply. It works by making so people can choose FREELY to be a sex worker and can leave it without legal and social ramification. It's an industry that doesn't go away by hiding it or shaming the people involved. So stop making it illegal and start forcing it to be consensual.
" or a mom making ends meet" that would be a trafficking victim by definition. you don't even know what trafficking means. and "some john that just needs some intimate contact to feel less loanly" is no excuse to hire a prostitute. stop protecting men from even creating this kind of situations.
meladversity ok do you know what trafficking is?? If a single woman has the fear or belief that she is at the place where that's the best or only way to provide for her kids that isn't trafficking..... trafficking is in basic terms slavery and the key ingredient is a pimp or "boss" ala the ABUSIVE person that is literally forcing the woman(en) to participate in prostitution ..... and the guy paying for intimacy isn't the one to blame since he is just trying to pay for a service, most men believe that it's consensual and aren't abusive to anyone let alone the women that they are paying..yes there's men that are scum and are sickening and abusive to the women but you can't generalize that is the opposite of what will be helpful to these women
My ex-girlfriends 20 year old daughter turned to prostitution because as she says it’s easy good money It broke my ex’s heart We only hope and pray she’ll wake up someday without being murdered Her father was never there for her I wonder if there’s a connection because of it?
I think there may be a connection. Though you may never know the truth. You say it was your ex girlfriends daughter,,, no doubt your ex had other ex boyfriends before you, and no doubt at least one of her ex boyfriends had at least his eye on her daughter. So like I said you may never know the real reason she went into prostitution, but I got a hunch....
As a sex worker I know from my own experience laws against sex work make it impossible for the safety of sex workers to report abuse & slavery! it is hurtful & extremely harmful to tell a migrant sex worker they can NOT contribute to the economy as a sex worker & therefore are subjected to abusive, slavery & criminal element, as a sex worker working in a illegal & can NOT obtain a work visa as a sex worker does NOT have the same human rights as any other worker & makes it IMPOSSIBLE for that sex workre to report violence against them & criminal know this! so yes! by prohibiting migrant sex workers from sex work you are in fact creating a problem & the opportunity for criminals to prey on sex workers who have been made vulnerable by a system that does not include us as any other workers with workers rights & human rights! sex work need to be FULLY DECRIMINALIZE if you are serious in addressing the real problems that come with the prohibition of adult sex work!
Then don't bother sex workers. Prostitution laws are not for those who don't engage in prostitution. So if you don't want to, then why have the laws for those who do?
The way you worded that (Decriminalize sex work now!) makes it sound like you want to make sex work legal, and that would further endanger the children and their moms.
multuminparvo5 The only children being sold for sex are typically by their parents! There is as high as 3% of prostitution that is forced. And police should concentrate on them instead of criminalizing consensual adult activities.
So in your country she has to choose from being at the mercy of a pimp vs being at a mercy of you and judges. Nice choice .. I have a feeling prostitution is much more grey in other countries where they actually have a justice system and prostitution not much criminalized. USA may have a good Constitution but the justice system is a joke and you can see that in prison population. If you want to help them, what about stopping to prosecute them? Prosecution is an act of violence period. Oh you can't stop because you need to pay for food and rent? For some time people in your country argued that the issue is with the criminal system that makes an imperfect world much worse.
@RTHA300 The Constitution is fine. It's rthose communist socialist who hate the morality that the Constitution defines. The immoral leaders of America have forced unConstitutional laws on the people that are oppressive and double standard, anything goes for wealthy, nothing goes for the poor.
I am glad that this talk exists in that this is defiantly a subject that needs more conversations. Indeed continuing to punish women that are already being punished by life will only make them fearful of institutions that should be helping them. However, I do not think that a one day program is doing enough, although being given the offer to clear charges in a big step. Many women are afraid or may have no other skills to support their families. Besides that if we focused on the larger issue some of this would be cleared up. Our poor and homeless are trapped. They cannot afford training to build skills but minium wage jobs often do not pay enough to live and added to that it can be difficult to even get a skill less job.
I believe ,that she believes this is a good perspective, My authentic self knows this is over the top biased one view. As usual law enforcement works like the doctor who does not listen to his / her patients. As it was said before watch Toni Mac's TED Talks , I understand as Substance abuse counselor to be effective , I work with Sex workers pretty regular basis. The commonalities between sex sales laws and drug laws are undeniable. It is the system that elevates the the harm , risk and social stigma. Education , Treatment and harm reduction open more doors than shutting them for those who desire change and enhance the spark to potential desire, with a no strings opportunity. Instead of control and laws that have become the money racket we all know that they are.
Misogyny is the enemy here, both by police, judges and johns. Time for a makeover of societies values. I'm a man but if I was faced with eviction, hunger or drug dependence, I know what I'd do to survive and most people reading this would do likewise. Let him(her) without sin cast the first stone.
@@artsmart our hyper capitalist society is the reason that people feel the need to go out and sell their bodies to get money because it's the only commodity they have it's the only mechanism of acquiring wealth that they have control over when you sell your hours of Labor to a capitalist you have no control these people are trying to take back control of their lives and control of their finances
Thank you so much for all you have done to understand the real feeling that's behind us is the worthlessness especially when you do ask help and it never comes my nightmares are hardly ever about the attacks but about emotional abuse or ones that remind me of how worthless I am I was told I would get help to get CBT 2 years later I'm still waiting besides one family member no one has ever try to support me I feel not worthy of this world anyway I lost myself 2 years ago and I want to find her again
Loretta James Don’t give up. You will get there!! You are stronger than most of us, because you are seeking help with hardly anyone supporting you. If you need information, some of us are here for you
Loretta - you are worth A LOT❤ I can't imagine what you've been through, but you will find yourself again. It's taken me over ten years and I'm still not complete, but I feel better than I ever did back then. I'm here, and I care❤
hahahahaha...she dreams of going to school - can't pay back loans, gets depressed, gets married, has kids, the father leaves and she works at Starbucks, does drugs to remain happy, loses her children. What we dream of as kids has very little to do with what we meet later in life. Most want to be CINDER FUCKIN ELLA! How much reality is THAT? Anyway, this is a one-sided story, no abuse to you intended. Most of us sell our body and soul to working 40 hours a week and paying a mortgage.
The fact that illegal prostitution is rampant shows that the fact that its illegal has had no effect on it. It should be legalized to take it away from the criminal element.
Every job I have applied to outside of California in the last 20 years has asked if I was ever in a diversion program (many said "diversion program or similar alternative to prosecution" or something similar). Every one said applicants who lied about being in diversion could be fired immediately. The idea that diversion programs like The Hannah Project get around the problems of conviction is a farce.
I love this concept! I wish something like this could be implemented here in Las Vegas. My Lord. The ending statement brought tears to my eyes it is so true. I do hide behind a smile amongst all the other things you named, and I'm currently reduced to this lifestyle :(
If you don't like what you do, stop. Do something else. If you view it as a "Reduction" then it's obviously not for you. Go to school, learn a skill set and take up a new line. The only person limiting you is you. If you're being forced you will have to be sneaky and hide some money for your run, but there's always a way to change your life if you really want to.
@@kenkneram4819 And while she's doing all the stopping of work and going to school again, the rent and the bills have to be paid. How, if you have nothing?
I would not see such a woman as someone lesser either, if anything as an empath I would reach out to such a person to relive them of some of their pain and remind her that she is not alone in suffering. I’ve spent most of my life battling my own demons from years of abuse and social rejection as a child and the collapse of my physical health combined with Complex PTSD, all as a result of that abuse - the last thing I’m going to do is judge another for their own demons. I’m grateful addiction was never among my demons, but disability, my myriad chronic illnesses and my mental health issues and severe chronic pain certainly would have placed me at very high risk for addiction had I been born with an addictive personality...and that is a roll of the genetic dice that none of us has any control over.
What about porn? Isn`t that the exact same thing? Why not complain for that? But we should legalize it. Definitely. We need more rehabilitation, and much crueller punishments for sex traffickers(say 30 years in a forced labor camp in Alaska), and more undercover actions to arrest traffickers.
Why is she supposed to talk about every subject?? Ted talk only gives so much time!! Why don't you talk about it? Legalizing would reveal your name, publicly, so you might to rethink that.
I agree with everything she said except that there are no woman out there who are just interested in prostitution for extra money. I talked to people who said they were
Unfortunately it's a business where the demand will never disappear and therefore the supply won't. Just decriminalize it and give these women (and men) the support and protection they deserve.
Wow! Thank you thank you thank you for making a difference in these woman s life's. You didn't have to do this especially coming from a good solid background and not initially understanding the street live so many of us lived or were groomed into. You could have judged us broken women and made jokes or regarded us as trashed whores instead you made a change to protect us/them. I cried watching this and gained a diffrent perspective on female cops WOW just wow thank you for helping those who have felt hopeless and now have a chance to learn unconditional love.
The Hannah project seems a wonderful way to tackle in essence a core requirement which is the need to feel lovable and cared for. Thank you for the initiative. The statistics in this talk are an eye-opener on stereotypes and generalizations that we make about prostitution in America. 🙏🏽
Men need to be held responsible for the violent culture which constructs the horrors most people live in (including themselves). See Ted talks by 1) *Tony Porter* and 2) *Jackson Katz*
with all do respect, lady, police don't help them. it's so male dominated. and men harshly punish women but not other men. but I really appreciate your speech. Thanks for seeing the reality. and standing up for women. blessings to you.
The best way would be to legalize prostitution for the prostitutes and criminalize the pimps and johns. But as long as laws are made by men, things won't change
There actually ARE prostitutes that enjoy what they do. I understand she may have been talking about victims of abuse, drug addicts, etc. but do not dismiss the ones who willingly do this. Don’t forget that while the police may want to help, a lot of prostitutes are actually scared that the police may take advantage of them as they often have. Most Prostitutes already know the dangers they face. The Hannah project sounds good and all but what does it do to actually help prostitutes out of the lifestyle they’re living? They may still have no home to come to, a job, or just basic necessities. Just a one day class on STD’s and they get tested for free. If they are being forced into this then we need programs that help these women into living stable lives and to ensure their safety as the system cracks down on trafficking. The best thing to do for prostitutes that do this willingly and enjoy it would be to listen to them and giving them the rights they need as workers. Provide them with medical attention, rehabilitation centers, etc. In the end, decriminalizing prostitution is what will really make a change.
No, but I think expunging a charge might. Considering that’s what’s keeping them from being able to get a job or rent an apartment. The hugs and love come after that.
Such a sad reality that any of our sisters should ever have to endure the terrible effects of abuse. The bastards that abuse these women have no idea of the pain and suffering they inflict upon their victims.
decriminalization =/= legalization. With decriminalization everyone STILL gets busted, they just don't get jail time, they pay big fines. With legalization NOBODY gets busted, and the activity goes on undeterred. So logically with decriminalization all the "back alley" and "hiding" aspects of the industry will still persist, thus all the ills that go along with that system will still exist. You'd LOGICALLY expect: ZERO CHANGE. Getting worse is just a product of "more population will yield higher number totals".
Some people say that prostitution should be legalized, but then there would be the problem of human trafficking. If you legalize prostitution, you legalize human trafficking. And that, is no bueno. Instead, they should stop arresting the prostitutes/victims and focus on arresting pimps and johns.
I think we DESPERATELY NEED LAW OR SOMETHING that is going to make prostitution SAFER‼️‼️ and not something that you have to be worried about being ABUSED or taken ADVANTAGE OF.
If you want to understand some of what she is talking about, I recommend reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It's a Christian book but it portrays the horrible reality of human trafficking so well
In Ontario Canada prostitution is NOT illegal but solicitation is so its great to know if anything ever did happen, I can call the police without worrying. It also discourages any abuse from the men they aren't protected legally like the escorts are. Yay 🇨🇦 Canada 🍁
total BS. If A welsh really wanted to help these women, she should work to decriminalize the oldest profession in the world. This just gives the law enforcement, judicial and penal system a reason to exist and jobs etc. Same for marijuana laws. Welsh might feel good thinking she is doing these women a favor but to me she is just rationalizing her job
A local prosecutor can’t decriminalize prostitution in the whole US u clown. She is doing her best to help these people right at the moment, dropping the charge and going against men involved is a lot. What are you doing to help these women? I bet you are one of the guys using their service and if u are u are only contributing to an already existing problems and trauma they have.
All those who want prostitution legalized, saying it's a career choice, a profession: I'll believe you when you get pimps booked into Career Day at your kid's high school, & you start asking your daughters "So honey, have you considered prostitution as a career? Law & medicine aren't all they're cracked up to be, you know!".
Yeah When coersion in various forms, the removal of choice (to say no or how it goes), the lack of support for the healthcare dimensions (cosmetic repairs, ressucitation burials, childbirth, stab wounds), and the lack of autonomy of those involved to make choices about their living arrangements, bank accounts, attire, diet, free time, etc. - all get turned around - only then can the legitimacy conversation even begin. As an experiment, let the coersion let up for even one day - how many would still keep doing it? Maybe a few. What percent? 50%? 25%? 20%? 10%? 5%? What percent would even put up with this if they could be choosy and keep the money? Is that even the same thing? There is a demand motivating the placement of people in a category. How can anyone that even catches a glimpse of this believe people want to be doing this? People know they have to be aggressive to make people do this because obviously they won't otherwise.
Like we don't do our jobs under the coercion of starvation and homelessness as well. The difference about prostitution is that it is more psychologically degrading.
May G-d bless you and keep you and your family safe in this life and the after life! May you be prosperous and continue to share your gift of love and respect! People like you restore my faith in humanity! Thank you for being a caring individual!
I think that prostitution most of the time isn’t a choice when your life is on the line. I think our society should have more options so that people don’t feel like prostitution the only choice.
No woman ever wanted to became a worker in poulty processing factory either. It's harder work that's paid worse though you won't get killed over it. Legalize prostitution to protect the women.
I wish this talk had included some comments on the idea of legalizing prostitution. For example, in Nevada we have legal brothels which provide protection for both the women and the customers. There are women working in these brothels who claim they are not forced into what they do and that they do, in fact, have other options. They even claim to like their work. They might not be truthful in these comments, I don't know. But if legalization does nothing else, it takes prostitution away from the criminal element and even if it is not the answer, wouldn't it at least be an improvement? We've done this with alcohol and drugs, why not also legalize prostitution and in doing so, control it and regulate it?
Do you have comprehension issues? She said she saw 10 dead bodies, four were prostitutes. That's 40% of all dead people she saw in 15 years - all prostitutes. It implies prostitutes are very likely to be attacked, maimed or murdered. Stop being obtuse, it's embarrassing.
Excellent + sobering “wake-up” speech! “The Hannah Project” sounds like a solution for all those victimized women forced into a most dangerous way to survive- who finally are offered the kind of help that works. This project needs to become a worldwide project for all women wanting to escape the binds of prostitution.
Everything she said is why prostitution must be legalized. Human trafficking (which includes pimping) is not the same as prostitution. Laws against prostitution gives the women two enemies: criminals (traffickers, abusive John's, etc.), and the police. Legalizing prostitution eliminates one enemy, and cripples the other. It's a win-win-win.
We can't keep on having a one track answer, having a one track mind thinking "adults must be responsible, 18 year olds are responsible". Being an "adult" is not the point, because being an adult does not make you invincible, perfect, not capable of doing any wrong. Using your body for money has detrimental effects and health risks because sex is not designed for that purpose. Therefore legalizing it even for the consenting only contributes to the already complicated problem. It's like selling cigarettes, aspartame, pesticide, plastic, chemotherapy, junk food, alcohol, etc. Things that have been marketed and deemed acceptable and substitutes to genuine solutions, useful and convenient, but in all reality have underlying effects that are destructive and detrimental to human well being. Try to be wiser instead of having a one track mindset for a subject so much more broader and complicated in scope. Show less REPLY
It's interesting that Ms. Welch makes these points... 1) That prostitutes are forced into that line of work against their will and that they don't want to engage in that line of work and are the subjects of pimps, and 2) They are afraid to come forward when anything goes badly, because they are afraid of being arrested or other negative consequences. She also talks about the negative consequences for a prostitution conviction that continue for an entire life. The solution to these problems is simple. Make it legal. Girls don't need pimps if they can do this themselves or participate in operations that are legally run by smart people. Pimps are no longer needed. And if something goes badly, they will be legally supported instead of thrown in jail. And while there may still be negative social consequences for being a prostitute (I'd support that), they won't have a criminal record that keeps them from getting a job.
brenda But if the workers had control then they could decide what they are willing to let people do to/with them. Without the pimp there is a chance that the woman might some degree of choice in the matter. Granted, application of the law is important. Oversight and regulation... Once people cannot treat the worker however they want but rather have to negotiate with her (instead of a pimp who probably does not care about her) then prostitution is arguably just a stigmatized service- though the chance of infectious disease would still be significant.
Disturbing. Legalization just says it's ok for people to use victims of abuse for their own convenience. It doesn't stop abuse, doesn't help victims, it just let's everyone think there is no problem because the abuse is legal now. Just washes everyone's hands of responsibility.
It doesn't work that way. They tried that in Germany, and now Berlin is one of the human trafficking capitals of the world. As she said, the girls are threatened and coerced with harm to themselves and their families if they try to report it or go to the police. Picture this; a pimp tells a girl he'll hurt her family if she tells anyone what he's forcing her to do. Then the police ask if she's being controlled. She will likely say no, for her own saftey and that of her family. And sure, it might seem obvious that she would get protection, but these pimps have ways of twisting girl's minds and making them completely broken and dependent. It's horrifying, and legalizing it only makes the problem worse. (I'm someone who has worked with several non-profit anti-human trafficking organizations, the facts are there)
My support to any project who help weak people, including Hannah projects, but, sorry: that's loosing time. The real solution is: change the low, equalize trafficking with killing and put the traffickers in jail forever.
Legalizing prostitution is legalizing the continuation of abuse on women, men, and children. Instead of helping people avoid prostitution, legalization is just permitting abusers to abuse.
? No my guy it would be way safer if it was legalized. Do your research. I even had professionals that work in the field of helping woman that legalizing would help
I have lived in countries where prostitution is legal and there is very little violence towards them. They also don't have or need pimps. Retirement is usually marrying a customer. Legalize prostitution and they can protect themselves.
@@JaimeWarlock That is true, but thinking everything will be fixed by legalizing it is a trap as that basically solves nothing, merely removes one of many obstacles towards an actual solution.
This is exactly why prostitution should be legalised and regulated. Not all women are able to get a good job that pays well and meets their needs. In Australia sex work is legal there are no pimps as such and the women get free health care. If we are to say that a woman has the right to chose in regards to their own bodies with abortion then why is it so different that she be allowed to chose who she has sex with and under what circumstances. The nanny state Christian moralising that goes on in America has no place in a modern world. Sex workers in Australia are even drug tested and no drugs are allowed in brothels. This measure is designed to try and ensure the women are not slaves to drugs either.
It would never change my opinion of a friend who has a prior conviction for prostitution. If they have stopped and changed their life, i would admire what they have done.
Decriminalize or legalise. By pass the criminals if that's possible. Government run brothels. It was decriminalized in Edinburgh by LBP for a period and we didn't descend into debauchery. There are some sick and dangerous people out there. Let's not be complicit in their crimes.
This talk seems pretty biased since plenty of sex workers say they are not the "pr****" that people assume they are. And that word she keeps referring to is a slur against sex workers. Most of sex workers aren't victims of sex abuse, most aren't drug users, most aren't forced into it. You know who is? Trafficked people, sexual slaves. Not sex workers. Sex work(an umbrella term) is gone into willingly and under the terms of the sex worker. What she is describe it purely forced sex trafficking. This talk HURTS actual sex workers trying to make a living.
+Samantha Scarcella My thoughts exactly. I spent 6 months in New South Wales, Australia where sex work is decriminalised and a way different perspective is made about them. I've been to a sex worker conference in Gold Coast (as a sex worker myself) and there were plenty of respectable and truly satisfied women who CHOOSE to be sex workers and they never do it to support an addiction or come from abusive backgrounds. Not a single one out of maybe 50. Thank you for being verbal that this video IS BIAS and speaking to sex traffick victims, not conventing sex workers.
Exactly. Sex trafficking is 100% horrible and should be wiped out. I believe in the eradication of all violence against women (and men for that point.) It is 100% unacceptable and wrong. Underage sex work is disgusting and criminal. Now having said that, I don't believe that all strippers, doms, escorts, sugar babies and other sex workers are forced into this. Sorry, I just don't believe it.
it takes two to tango. If it's illegal to sell sex, it must be illegal to buy it too.
So agree Trueabundance! If everyone gets busted when police stop a drug deal, why not with prostitution?
i sell it to myself it only takes one ..
no one should get arrested. prohibition doesnt work.

Also if we were to legalize the work then they'd have a place to turn.
I agree.
Until you can guarantee workers safety, you shouldn't use buy or endorse that service. Ignorance doesn't excuse complicity in slavery or abuse.
greenbutater Yes, legalization of prostitution is a completely separate topic. People who bring this up here are simply deflecting because this talk made them feel guilty in some way
It's a bandaid solution.
decriminalization of prostitution is the only way to protect women, organize themselves and get help form the police and NGOs, Its the pimps and human traffickers who need to be punished, not women who are among ths most vulnerable of all societies in this world
agreed...

Yeah. Al Capone only got rich as a gangster because of the Prohibition.
Everything just went underground and the murder rate went up.
Anyhow, how hard is it to become a cam girl these days?
Agencies can’t bust prostitution rings if they’re legal the women are broken and victimized behind those smiles whether it’s legal or illegal
Prostitution is work. These workers should be decriminalized, protected and respected as with other trades
Police should do more talks - they see more trauma than ANY OTHER profession.
She knows whats she's talking about compared to many others that talk about the same thing.
This cop is as clueless today as she was when she started. She's self-righteous and ignorant.
Police create the black markets that these traumas happen in by enforcing criminalization. Her work is one half the cause of the suffering she sees.
That's because they cause the trauma! Rape the second most reported complaint about law enforcement nationally, and even though sex workers are not the ones who file these complaints, we are probably experiencing a higher incidence of abuse because it seems to be a common occurance.

So police are raping, beating, and killing women ? "Seems to be" is not an educated argument...I want to see your data.
Good parenting can only happen when you have a society that has support systems that foster healthy citizens , with affordable housing, living wage, universal health care....justice, addressing sexism, racism, prejudice and so on....it take a village to raise a child.....in other words a society

so your saying society should only allow certain persons to breed since the issue of such unions is a societal responsibility. Or maybe your saying responsibility is a social thing, but folks can do whatever the fk they want with the costs shifted to everyone else.
Frankly it doesn't matter what you are saying, because either way it's delusional..
I see what you are saying. I completely agree with you!
yes, marc, certain people should have the right to have children. so there wouldn't be any child abuse of any kind.

I believe good parenting comes from good parenting. Education can teach children that their parents are violating them. Children in dysfunctional families keep secrets.
Some ted talks have wonderful, kind, and intelligent comment sections.
*This, however, isn't one of them.*
Marc Grundfest oof
Oh Jesus Christ why should it be illegal for these women to be making money off of what everybody is doing anyway come on guys were all fuking these women are at least getting paid for it!! Like come on now
why, because they disagree with you?
RIP Sis!
Claire Anderson Graham So sorry to hear about all the pain that you and your sister went through. Your adoptive parents should be held accountable.
Are you sure, I've never heard anyone use like that... if you don't find a vein it's usually painful and you won't get a lot from it. Not as bad as hitting an artery, but that's accidental. I can't see someone trying to use that way, would probably get more from smoking it, and less painful.
Rest In Peace and in power Hanna
Your story breaks my heart, I hope you're able to find the healing that you deserve. Trust God that Hannah is in His loving arms. Jesus is the solution to troubles like you've seen
I'm sorry baby girl to read about your loss. Sending you a hug
Marriage is a loophole for free service
these comments are absolutely disgusting
80% of them: "I am/I know a sex worker who is happy, so _obviously_ I know enough to speak for _all prostitutes_ and I will loudly defend prostitution even if the _vast_ majority will horribly suffer because of it"
just because you, as somebody who probably lives safely and stable, have positive experiences with it, does not mean that you represent the HUGE market of prostitutes
there are sex slaves, women afraid for their lives, women who have been brainwashed, women who suffer, women who have been trafficked, women who are threatened, women who's family has been threatened, women who are _traumatized_ and who can't get out partly because of people like you defending a horribly broken system
but hey, you get to earn money with sex, and you have fun with it, so yeah, go, complain about this woman who _actually helps suffering victims_ , who actually deals with statistics and recovery programs... go, complain about the people who help victims, and defend the system that creates them, well done
you make me _sick_
APPLAUDS
Antoinette Welch, the speaker, is recounting her experience of prostitution in the black market- where you see a lot of desperation, drug use, violence, rape, human trafficking. People who are pro prostitution want it moved into the white market, want it decriminalized. In this way workers and clients both can seek protections that eliminate abuses. If you look at a country with legal prostitution it does not remotely look like human trafficking. It is a means to Protect the suffering that you point it, by legalizing it.
THANK YOU!!!
I personally hate prostitution and pimping, but I've been around... maybe as a former cop she heard over and over hookers claiming they had no other choices or options, but as a man that used to be out there in them streets, especially as a young teenage troublemaker... turning tricks is a woman's game and a woman's world... dudes don't be pimping like movies and rap songs say, most pimps got turned out by hoes and they get swallowed alive by the bitches often... at least 99% of women selling sex can stop any second they want
+
I broke down into tears when I felt the women's value individually. I wanted to make sure no one would ever find the pimps, traffickers, & tricks, comfort all of them when they mourn as a cosmic father, healing their emotional wounds through encouraging, uplifting, & inspiring these women.
What are you babbling about?
Bless her, and everyone she helps. I hope it goes all over the nation and the world.
This absolutely should be a nation wide system.
❤👍
Heartwarming. Such a wonderful program. These women need support and inspiration. Thank you to everyone that is involved 💛
this is why this lifestyle shouldn’t be supported or shown as a good example, most people get into because of very bad reasons that people don’t want to fix.
100%
@@silentvoice4970 also, new zealand isn't the only place where it's compeltely legal. It's also legal in the Netherlands.
I'm not completely sure, but I think it's legal in Australia too.
And it's at least partially legal in Japan.
LEGALIZED. Decriminalized means its still illegal, just not criminal, so a fine not jail. You still get busted. Legalized is what you're shooting for.
@@GeneralNickles Its legal in the U.S. too in some places. And its very clean and orderly. There aren't rapes and murders constantly in Reno.
It’s wonderful to hear about this kind of program. Humanitarian work saves lives. I love hearing about this. Amazing!
Prostitution needs to be legalized, taxed, and regulated. It will help stop human trafficking and end the shame and stigma for the industry.
Too many sheep living in fear
Human trafficking and prostitution is different
making prostitution illegal makes it dangerous. so police are part of the problem.
legalize and regulate and focus on the real crimes like trafficking not someone paying for college or a mom making ends meet. or some john that just needs some intimate contact to feel less loanly.
brent847 sounds good, doesnt work. have fun as police trying to sort out the law-abiding from the criminals. all it does is kicking human traffic and forced prostitution into high gear. and for what? so a bunch of useless pimps and the small amount of - actually existing- "happy hookers" dont have to learn a proper profession?
yeah, no.
it is really stupid though that the prostitutes themselves are being criminalized. they are the victims here. its like punishing junkies, it makes no sense and helps noone.
Brutus Tan i guess liberty is also having tenthousand ppl as sex slaves because because a minority enjoys the shit job ?
My ex-girlfriends 20 year old daughter turned to prostitution because as she says it’s easy good money
It broke my ex’s heart
We only hope and pray she’ll wake up someday without being murdered
Her father was never there for her
I wonder if there’s a connection because of it?
I think there may be a connection. Though you may never know the truth. You say it was your ex girlfriends daughter,,, no doubt your ex had other ex boyfriends before you, and no doubt at least one of her ex boyfriends had at least his eye on her daughter. So like I said you may never know the real reason she went into prostitution, but I got a hunch....
thank you for sharing this story, changing lives, and remembering we are all humans and it's not our job to judge ❤
Sex worker rights are human rights!
Decriminalize sex work now!
As a sex worker I know from my own experience laws against sex work make it impossible for the safety of sex workers to report abuse & slavery! it is hurtful & extremely harmful to tell a migrant sex worker they can NOT contribute to the economy as a sex worker & therefore are subjected to abusive, slavery & criminal element, as a sex worker working in a illegal & can NOT obtain a work visa as a sex worker does NOT have the same human rights as any other worker & makes it IMPOSSIBLE for that sex workre to report violence against them & criminal know this!
so yes! by prohibiting migrant sex workers from sex work you are in fact creating a problem & the opportunity for criminals to prey on sex workers who have been made vulnerable by a system that does not include us as any other workers with workers rights & human rights!
sex work need to be FULLY DECRIMINALIZE if you are serious in addressing the real problems that come with the prohibition of adult sex work!
kimxxxyyy then don't be a sex worker....
Felt so sad after hearing this. Hope someday the conditions will improve.
Exactly. i have lived in countries where it is legal and if you beat one up, she can have you prosecuted.
You sound like you have a little knowledge. Thank you! Agreed.
Misogyny is the enemy here, both by police, judges and johns. Time for a makeover of societies values. I'm a man but if I was faced with eviction, hunger or drug dependence, I know what I'd do to survive and most people reading this would do likewise. Let him(her) without sin cast the first stone.

Men need to be held responsible for the violent culture which constructs the horrors most people live in (including themselves). See Ted talks by 1) *Tony Porter* and 2) *Jackson Katz*
Why men in particular? Why not our politicians? And who is responsible for them? The people who voted for them, that's who.
God bless this woman. I hate that we don’t protect women better. I’m so frustrated
great talk and work with the Hannah project. Very courageous.
with all do respect, lady, police don't help them. it's so male dominated. and men harshly punish women but not other men. but I really appreciate your speech. Thanks for seeing the reality. and standing up for women. blessings to you.
Meanwhile women get lesser sentences than their male counterparts for the same crime
it hurts to hear this but this is the truth.. god help those who are in desparate need ..
"it hurts to hear"
Yeah the audio is really shitty. :-/
Anshul - if god could help, would he/she ?if not, is there really a god ? Spoiler: no gods. But, glad you care.
The best way would be to legalize prostitution for the prostitutes and criminalize the pimps and johns. But as long as laws are made by men, things won't change
Those women aren't happy either. They don't like it and eventually it takes a toll on them emotionally to be treated like a thing.
I agree with the first thing you said, but not with the second. In case you didn't know, men care too.
Lol
That is how the law is in my country.
So basically what you're saying is that we should punish men for being men and treat all women as victims??!!! 🤨🤨🤨
Typical feminazi position! 😏😠
She doesn't seem to understand that sex workers and trafficking victims are not the same thing
froggy parsons no she doesn’t
Her point is that they are the same.
They can be combined ya know
No but there is heavy relations between the two.
Exactly. Let someone know that people.
Unfortunately hugs and dreams don't pay for the rent.
Talked to a Hooker from Rio....why, I asked her?
Her answer, I don't like to eat dirt.
Depends on the hugs, I guess.
No, but I think expunging a charge might. Considering that’s what’s keeping them from being able to get a job or rent an apartment. The hugs and love come after that.
Not immediatly, but it will help them
because they will trust again on theirselves and try again to find an other job...
She also mentioned all of the practical assistance, not just hugs and dreams.
Superb! When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!
Such a sad reality that any of our sisters should ever have to endure the terrible effects of abuse. The bastards that abuse these women have no idea of the pain and suffering they inflict upon their victims.
I love that the Hannah Project was created 💕these women deserve a chance to be loved, educated, & known
When New Zealand decriminalized prostitution wasn't there a HUGE drop in the kind of stuff she was talking about?
@@silentvoice4970 How? Please explain and provide references
decriminalization =/= legalization.
God bless this woman what a beautiful thing she she is doing!!!!
It's a Christian book but it portrays the horrible reality of human trafficking so well
Wow. God Bless you Ms.Welch. I will do my part in The Hannah Project. What a noble cause
In Ontario Canada prostitution is NOT illegal but solicitation is so its great to know if anything ever did happen, I can call the police without worrying. It also discourages any abuse from the men they aren't protected legally like the escorts are. Yay 🇨🇦 Canada 🍁
Do u like it
Calie-Anne Caz doesn’t make sense that it’s legal to sell but not buy 🤔
👏 hope this project grows and becomes able to provide also initial economic support
Great way of removing shame
Yeah
When coersion in various forms, the removal of choice (to say no or how it goes), the lack of support for the healthcare dimensions (cosmetic repairs, ressucitation burials, childbirth, stab wounds), and the lack of autonomy of those involved to make choices about their living arrangements, bank accounts, attire, diet, free time, etc.

Excellent points! 👍
Well said.
Thank you for telling people how it is & for making a difference in the world & in people's lives.
Magnifique Projet. Souhaitons qu'il soit appliqué ailleurs ds le Monde. En France notamment
More cities need this, and especially John Schools.
If men were the prostitutes, this woman would still call women the victims
“I’ve seen 10 dead bodies”
And that has nothing to do with prostitution... that’s MURDER.
It's a win-win-win.
she's a good speaker
Decriminalize it and help the women, arrest the pimps and give them them the help they need.

You are doing amazing work, I hope it can keep growing and helping more women 🥇
And while there may still be negative social consequences for being a prostitute (I'd support that), they won't have a criminal record that keeps them from getting a job.
brenda
But if the workers had control then they could decide what they are willing to let people do to/with them.
Just washes everyone's hands of responsibility.
agree with you agentmg17, really disturbing reading people saying stuff like that, in the year 2018. FACEPALM!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I'm someone who has worked with several non-profit anti-human trafficking organizations, the facts are there)
The Hannah project sounds beautiful. Keep up the work
It's as the song goes.
"God forbid you ever have
To walk a mile in their shoes
Cuz then you might know what it's like
To have the blues."
In the US, prostitution is illegal. Unless you film it and put it online.
Go figure.
Falko Mätzler it is legal in some parts of Nevada, in brothels. Good point though
Legal or illegal doesn't matter much, it's the same as any other branch of business: best protection is worker's rights and protection.
@@johanmetreus1268 It is hard to obtain worker's rights and protection when your occupation is illegal.
@@JaimeWarlock That is true, but thinking everything will be fixed by legalizing it is a trap as that basically solves nothing, merely removes one of many obstacles towards an actual solution.
Sexworkers and trafficking victims ARE NOT the same thing. Decriminalizing saves lives.
This woman is awesome
We can't keep on having a one track answer, having a one track mind thinking "adults must be responsible, 18 year olds are responsible". It would never change my opinion of a friend who has a prior conviction for prostitution. If they have stopped and changed their life, i would admire what they have done.
I'm reading Medea in my English class right now... just saying, patriarchy was a thing then and it's a thing now.
Decriminalize or legalise. By pass the criminals if that's possible. Government run brothels. It was decriminalized in Edinburgh by LBP for a period and we didn't descend into debauchery. There are some sick and dangerous people out there. Let's not be complicit in their crimes.
these women probably did not have any dreams of what they wanted to be when they grew up…..their only dream was to survive
I'm joyfully tearing. My sincere gratitude for your kind of saviour.
Sorry, I just don't believe it.
statistically, most are abused. as a 20 year old, it may seem like freedom, as a 50 year old, with no education...it is slavery
What is "pr**"?
prostitution is corruption
Todd Mastrianna: "Complete legalization. End of story. There is NO upside to criminalizing what 2 consenting adults do. Ever." Well said !
