P.S.: I feel like Ultimate Deterrence is a research group for Allies. By doing that focus you get bonuses for research other nations in Allies already researched.

FUN FACT. Japan was a constitutional monarchy (like today) with a functioning government and strong democracy. Then the military went rogue and ignored the government, proclaiming the emperor as the true authority, while also saying that the emperor cannot interfere in something beneath him, like matters of governance. So in effect it went from a britain inspired parliamentary democracy to a military junta. It was never directly ruled by the emperor.
The military consolidated full control of Japan and declared an official military junta, the "imperial rule assistance association" as the sole legal political party in charge of the government. So yes, Japan was originally a constitutional monarchy but by 1940, it was officially a military dictatorship.

So, what is th ministry lockdown? Well, it's simple, If an government minister does not work, for example, ministry of infrastructure, the government stops. This is normally solvable if we nominate another architect to this ministry
Things got fuzzy when we see the angle that to be an ministry of the army or ministry of the navy, you would only be able to recruit someone like an major.
If all the majors cross their arms in favour of an random agenda, you would either be obliged to do it, or have your government basically shut down. (And the majors were organized, Remember, 50 years ago, they were the former samurai clans roaming the court of the Tokugawa)
While that happened, some junior officers were invading some random parts of china, If the invasion got right, they would not be punished
Things got weird when they invaded manchuko, This is where we can say that Japan had basically an military govt. separate from the civilian government, since the civilian government was agaisnt and tried to call off the manchuko thing. However, they won in Manchuko, It was such a big win that some of them wanted to after WW2, keep fighting in Manchuko after japan surrendered, because it was an army-controlled state.

To this day I'm puzzled why japanese political focuses are all exclusive to each other and not grouped in pairs:
democracy and communism - coup,
fascism and non-aligned - agressive conquest of Asia.

Because the historical and non-aligned focuses are literally two sides of the same coup. Search 2.26 incident (feb 26 incident), historically it gets shut down. Paradox gives the successful coup scenario as the young officers putting the emperor back in power, hence non-aligned.
@@ShinySalamence1 I'm aware of that. But the whole fascist tree makes no sense IF Japan conquers China(and under the player it does). Meanwhile non-aligned one is presented as more opportunistic one as you still get into war with China, but not as single entity, you get to kick the soviets while they're down, you avoid war with US as long as possible. Do YOU need to look up what war with US entailed to Japan?
Communism and democracy do not mix. Communists would never let people vote their way out of communism (which would prevent the communists from achieving their utopian fantasy).

Isn't the ultimate deterrence thing a research faction so you get bonuses to nukes? Also I thought you had to update an aircraft design once you choose a manufacturing modifier to actually apply the bonuses, it should show the manufacturers symbol on the design once it applies.

The last focus isnt supposed to make a faction , it creates research group ,like the commonwealth , and those contries join that group , works like the focus technology sharing on the generic focus tree

The democratic path for Japan is actually pretty good, you can get China into your faction and also grab the european colonies in south east asia. The only proplem is that the focus tree is small and most things you're gonna end up doing is not related to the focuses itself.

I would strongly recommend playing Hungary in RT56. Has all sorts of unique paths, such as a "Moderate Restoration" and improved Fascist focus tree.

I think they just need to overhaul democracy to make them able to declare wars, they r too reliant on focus trees which usually arent war focused anyway

The French focuses are very disproportionate, the Democratic tree is gigantic compared to all the others combined. The Monarchist tree is also quite small.

Build a shit load of forts on the border to Belgium and Luxembourg and have a large enough army to hold it while also building up an air force to at least contest the sky. Maybe build a fallback line too.
As France, by doing this, you can hold out near indefinitely.

also tried anarchist spain, managed to get 70% of spain on my uprising but from that point on my manpower just got grinded down and i lost

In defense, which democratic path for a non-democratic nation is good?
The British alt history democratic path is pretty powerful, managed to intervene when Germany tried to take the Sudetenland and puppeted Germany and Italy by 1940, then the USSR too when it tried to invade Poland, by 1942. Then went on to beat up Japan and ended the game being the by far most powerful country in the world. Is for a democratic nation, yeah, but it's a very powerful democratic alt history path.
