Schultz is a lyrical genius. The things that this band does with music continues to amaze me. They are definitely one if my greatest musical influences.
It's because they are more alternative. They are great but for my household growing up there was a lot of country, and Nickelback. It's not surprising it's gonna be passed down to the next generation with them instead being recognized.
blown away. these guys sound nothing like stones animals or doors. people should listen to 60s garage and discover how awesome it is. don't know anything about this band but heard it on the radio and they brought back the sound of the seeds, chocolate watchband, standells and many other garage bands.
Absolutely agree! Both of your comments are right on the money. I think these guys knew exactly what they were doing, too. The whole video is 60's garage from the '64 Ford Falcon to the high water bell bottoms the lead singer is wearing to the black and white presentation. Yeah...I'll bet if you asked them they would say this was a tribute to their musical influences or else they just like the garage band sound. It sticks out as quite different from the rest of their music. (BTW...just checked out your channel and subscribed. The music you are posting is awesome!)
Yeah, I'm not a music expert, but I dig these guys and they did remind me of The Animals before I saw the video. Is it because I know nothing about actual musical arrangement? Yeah Probably.
As an old fan this sounds like it could be the Animals, I attended their show this summer and they certainly did not disappoint. A truly great act, catch them if you get a chance.
I was born in 1960, and when I first heard it, I thought it was some band from the sixties and I wondered how I'd never heard it before. It is a great song! Cage the Elephant is a great band.
I love this song and think the video is very symbolic. The coldness in his chest represents depression (the first few lines also reflect this). Society views negative emotions as a problem to be treated, and so they force him to be "fixed" by the doctor. They try a variety of methods, including physiological analysis, women and the pursuit of love, and drugs, which are all real-world treatments. In the end, they behead him and pull out his blackened heart, symbolizing, in my opinion, the forcible end of his depressed appearance. They cover him up with a mask, and he becomes another faceless part of the society that has been watching him. This is only a facade though. The last few lines repeat that he is still cold inside, he doesn't feel right. The change is superficial; he is the same, but has now been forced to hide his emotions behind a literal mask. Additionally, the world is void of color until the women first appear. And the line "My life before me like a flash in the night" (3:53) appears just before the beheading. Your life supposedly flashes before your eyes as you die. So being "cured" actually is the end of life. They kill him, take out what they don't want, and then put back together the empty pieces. Also, note how none of the masked people act as individuals. They are a singular entity with no acceptance for what is deemed undesirable behavior.
I’m 36 and absolutely LOVE the retro feel of this song! I feel this way with a lot of songs that are retro. They feel nostalgic for me and I don’t know why. I can feel the lyrics on this one. I saw them as an opener once and their performance was better than the actual group I came to see.
Matt looked EXACTLY like Mick Jagger when he performed in San Diego this June. I think he's harnessing his energy. Everything from his outfit to his dance moves were JUST like Jagger.
Once, when I was in an army hospital because of an illness, I listened to cage the elephant songs. And this music, melody, text and words, all this cured me on equal terms with medicines! And I want to say thank you for your music! She helped me a lot then! helped me break out of the army depression! helped to recover! thanks! sorry for my English! I'm from Russia!
I gotta say that this band is the best band in a long time. Their is actually a story behind every lyric. It's been so long that I can say that I am excited to watch the video. True to their art the rythem lyrics & melody aren't complete without the video. And almost every video blows me away. Good Job fellas. Keep doing you. And thanks for a great sound track.
I’ve seen them play in there hometown close to mine and went to their own festival called starry nights. I’ve ran into members at the mall and I can’t help but root for them! They are original yet familiar and one of the best rock bands of the past 30 years
Doctor. you can make up the rest , but the fact is am really not at all well. and if I were to take a fall just out side of your office here , then you may feel just how cold I really am, so much for your advice, I now great lyrics , and just were is that sweet nurse.
Okay so i often have a hard time interpretating song videos, so i would like to hear some of your view. The way i see it, it describes the process of becoming depressed, in which at the end the heart seems to be gone and he has to live life with a mask to make it seem like nothing is wrong while he is literally dead on the inside?
nick willemsen it seems like the vision of mainstream puts masks on our faces , so every one is "just another brick in the wall" . Man who's not accepted by sociality try to get answer why it's like it is. And then from thousands sounds he hears that he must put the mask and be like others which leads to moment when u loose your heart your "unige soul". I take it this way :)
It's basically a re-education camp they've taken him to. The nazi-like uniforms seem to substantiate that. The masks they're wearing are supposed to hide their real identity and individuality, making them a homogenous mass. The first thing they do when they take him is they cut his hair short. Long hair is usually seen as an indicator of individuality, because it's not accepted in lots of places like banking or the military where people are supposed to conform. Soldiers had to cut their hair short because they needed to wear gas masks that seal tight. Hair would be an issue there. The next thing is they do some sort of rituals on him, which reminds me of Christians trying to pray the gay away. The doctor that treats him is also an indication of that: He takes a bit of his hair and analyses it, then gives him some sort of vaccine while the nurses give him a drug. They also put a thing on his head, which makes him freak out (maybe indoctrination?). The muscular guy is maybe supposed to say that you need to be strong and put up with this sort of treatment. Same with the guy who shows himself swallowing the sword. It's like saying "I can take it! Why can't you?" When these people realize that nothing of this works though, they rip his heart, the thing that seperates him from the others, out after cutting off his head and it's black because living in this kind of environment makes his heart "cold as ice" and black, as mentioned in the song too. It's depression. And then they destroy him just to make him one of them, putting a mask on his face. It's supposed to criticize how society doesn't know how to treat people that are different or that it doesn't like people who are different. In the USA I see this being the case with the constant identity politics and political polarization. People often instantly dehumanize something they don't agree with or what they don't understand (like the guys who is extremely disappointed when he looks at the protagonist's chest and immediately sees evil inside). If you don't fit, if you don't wear the mask, you are cast out. That's what I think. Think I'm gonna post this as a regular comment too :)
Personally, I felt like the main character was supposed to have been depressed, and was being brought to this weird, 50's era type sanitarium. All the weird things being done to him are supposed to represent how it can feel like doctors just try everything even when none of it works. By the end, the doctors are frustrated and do something drastic: cut off his head. This could represent upping the dosage of anti-depressants instead of looking for a particular one that works for the patient, or more literally could represent the practice of lobotomies which in turn represents the struggle and mistreatment of mentally ill people when being treated.

I'm here because P!ATD lost a Grammy to these guys and I wanted to check them out. Safe to say I'll be staying here for a while!
Renee is trash Same
i like both :D next year P!ATD
i actually love both of them and honestly same
^this guys opinion overpowers everyone else"s because he has superior taste in absolutely everything, there is no way you can stump this man.
Should see them live... amazing!
Schultz is a lyrical genius. The things that this band does with music continues to amaze me. They are definitely one if my greatest musical influences.
*Every time I'm this early, I put the video on 2x speed so I can be the first person to finish the video.*
dat boi oh shit wadup
Dead meme
František Sněhota I bet my memes are more dead
dat boi 😂
sound better too
I don’t understand how these guys are so amazing and not really a household name
The music you are posting is awesome!)
hear The Electric Prunes emotion cryin
johnnysnotty I read garbage
Wow just wow people sometimes
Yeah, I'm not a music expert, but I dig these guys and they did remind me of The Animals before I saw the video. Is it because I know nothing about actual musical arrangement? Yeah Probably.
As an old fan this sounds like it could be the Animals, I attended their show this summer and they certainly did not disappoint. A truly great act, catch them if you get a chance.
congratss for the grammy guys!!! you really deserve it
Yes
This will always be my favorite cage the elephant song, hands down
My Dad heard this and says it sounds like a 60's garage band song...He loves it...But then he is old enough to remember 60's garage bands...
I was born in 1960, and when I first heard it, I thought it was some band from the sixties and I wondered how I'd never heard it before. It is a great song! Cage the Elephant is a great band.
They sounds like Rolling Stones
Sounds like The Kinks, I love it.
I got Rolling Stones, the animals, and a Donovan vibe
This has a cool early 60s vibe to it. My dad said it reminds him so much of the Animals, the Standells, or some garage band.
BassPlayerSusan as well as the seeds and chocolate watchband. your dad got good taste.
johnnysnotty. definitely the Seeds "Pushing Too Hard.
I thought you put "some garbage band" lol

OnPS4 OMG I see it
thank you for this comment :)
OnPS4 love ur theory! And totally agree with you
thanks for pretty much doing my a level media homework for me😂

I’m 36 and absolutely LOVE the retro feel of this song! I feel this way with a lot of songs that are retro. They feel nostalgic for me and I don’t know why. I can feel the lyrics on this one. I saw them as an opener once and their performance was better than the actual group I came to see.
Hi I recommend a song and accompanying video called 'Where I Come From' By Robert Nix
I'd suggest "Take It Or Leave It" by Cage the Elephant for the retro vibe, and not because I'm a bot like Mr Skies here.
Who were they opening for?
Damn they really went and straight up removed his vibe
he failed the vibe check, what else were they supposed to do?
total vibectomy
Best comment I’ve seen in too long
chill out they are just making a more detailed vibe checking
his vibrator?
This has a Rolling Stones sound to it
YoursTruly Ikr 🙊
has a little doors touch as well
Matt looked EXACTLY like Mick Jagger when he performed in San Diego this June. I think he's harnessing his energy. Everything from his outfit to his dance moves were JUST like Jagger.
Finally someone who sees that! The whole album has some Rolling Stones spirit
Checkout the Love Me Nots.
*_This song is "Hot Hot Hot," digging it._*
Cool video with the old nuthouse-strait jacket, guitar from yesterday!
I love how they pretty spot-on hit the late 50's early 60's rock/surf-rock tone from lyrics on through the instrumentation
@Peach Pit I dig it. It's a bit like if Ultimate Spinach had gone for a slower/ambient sound
I'm from Russia!
so back to comitting war crimes now?
Nothing like a 2017 music video when the song was made in 2015
the single is only about to be released
No it was released in 2015. Look it up.
Little Man122 ikr. but that always happens with other bands. its not bad.
DJDavidShmosh he means there about to release itnas a single but the song its self was out late 2015
Juan Velez yes that's what I meant. I know that the album was released in 2015.
CtE cadence is always on point, every single time...
And thanks for a great sound track.
anyone else appreciate that one of the guitarists had a blue oyster cult on his jacket?
Adin Rollins Glad I wasn't the only one that caught that!
I been looking in the coments if anyone realized that the begining of this song is kind of similar to The reaper.
just started listening to Cage the Elephant and i didn’t realize how many of their songs i’ve heard before
I’ve seen them play in there hometown close to mine and went to their own festival called starry nights. I’ve ran into members at the mall and I can’t help but root for them! They are original yet familiar and one of the best rock bands of the past 30 years
I'm a metalhead but I love this band.
Same here
Matt did a good job with this.
why havent i heard this song till now wtf its so good
ikr-- real good.

GAARA Of The Sand

This has always been my favorite song I know every one of the words, just amazing!
Doctor. you can make up the rest , but the fact is am really not at all well. and if I were to take a fall just out side of your office here , then you may feel just how cold I really am, so much for your advice, I now great lyrics , and just were is that sweet nurse.
I take it this way :)
nick willemsen it's a video about cage the elephant selling out
It's basically a re-education camp they've taken him to.
Why can't you?"
When these people realize that nothing of this works though, they rip his heart, the thing that seperates him from the others, out after cutting off his head and it's black because living in this kind of environment makes his heart "cold as ice" and black, as mentioned in the song too.
Marcel Arts look up MK ultra and you'll understand this video
Personally, I felt like the main character was supposed to have been depressed, and was being brought to this weird, 50's era type sanitarium. All the weird things being done to him are supposed to represent how it can feel like doctors just try everything even when none of it works. By the end, the doctors are frustrated and do something drastic: cut off his head. This could represent upping the dosage of anti-depressants instead of looking for a particular one that works for the patient, or more literally could represent the practice of lobotomies which in turn represents the struggle and mistreatment of mentally ill people when being treated.
I love the singers energy. I wish I had that much energy on a daily basis.

Doctor look into my eyes
I've been breathing air but there's no sign of life
Doctor the problem's in my chest
My heart feels cold as ice but it's anybody's guess
Doctor can you help me cause I don't feel right
Better make it fast before I change my mind
Doctor can you help me cause I don't feel right
Better make it fast before I change my mind
Well it's cold, cold, cold, cold inside
Darker in the day than the dead of night
Cold, cold, cold, cold inside
Doctor can you help me cause something don't feel right
Something don't feel right
Sweet nurse don't look at me that way
I've seen those eyes before I can tell you want to play
Counselor give me some advice
Tell me how hard will I fall if I live a double life
Doctor can you help me cause I don't feel right
Better make it fast before I change my mind
Doctor can you help me cause I don't feel right
Better make it fast because there ain't much time
Well it's cold, cold, cold, cold inside
Darker in the day than the dead of night
Cold, cold, cold, cold inside
Doctor can you help me cause something don't feel right
Something don't feel right, something just ain't right
And as the darkness falls it fills up both my eyes
My life before me like a flash in the night

Thales Wüst dude this band has been mainstream sense the early 2000s. It’s not really indie. Alternative sure, indie no. If you do want some good suggestions for some more out there indie music I’d be happy to share some.
I just call it a good song lol

how have I only just heard of them ?!?!?! they're so underrated !!!
so much symbolism in this one
Illuminati?
All of their videos. They're deep in the club, either that or they're unassuming puppets. Something tells me they're very aware. Man, amazing music but can't get past this
I love the revivalist feel of today's music. This could be pulled straight from an Eric Burdon and the Animals album. Fantastic stuff.
Cage the elephant, the strokes and Gorillaz are in my Top List

Arctic Monkeys, The killers and Cage the elephant área mi top list

Excellent early 70s re-creation for an original song. I feel/hear some aspects so as to encompass multiple genres of the time as well. Grateful to the TH-cam algorithm.
this videos sick,
I love the symbology can you see the masonic influence w the checkered floor and bondage scenes. Stay real elephants.
Frank Hernandez- Omg, I totally picked up on the Masonic symbolism. Creepy af and yet I can’t get enough of this video. I’m so addicted to this song!!!
Him loosing his heart definitely symbolizes him giving up what's unique about himself, then putting the mask on references fitting a mold
So catchy , damn! The music is just right and the video keeps your eyes locked on the screen! Good job... And of course it´s not without a message either - but with any type of art it´s always the viewers interpretation for what it means to them
