how does it compare to 50mm 1.8?

S1? Yes and no. I still often use my G9 with small primes.

Kept the 6D with two small primes, 24mm IS and 40mm pancake. Not worth enough to sell them vs. what they are capable of and I still want DSLR experience from time to time. Sold all the L zooms I had though.
