    Sometimes we don’t like to name, or put a label on a child. I don’t see Dyslexia as an inadvertent label in any way. My approach to the children is that they have a gift. When they walk away from my assessment, they feel happy. They understand that for the past few years, and for some it’s many, that they don’t have a disability, they have the gift of Dyslexia which has caused a learning difficulty for them. A learning difficulty usually associated with literacy.
    If you’re wondering about your child, and wondering if they are Dyslexic, these are the things to look for: Are they creative? Do you really believe that they are innately intelligent? Are they creative in the form of; art, music, sport, drama? They might be really good at maths, but they have an issue with literacy.
    It might not be all aspects of literacy. They might love reading, but they might not be able to do-code. They might not be able to comprehend what they’re reading. They might have issues with phonics, in trying to sound things out, and they always have problems with the sight words. There are those little words that they just cannot deal with, and that’s because they can’t see them.

    Rhyming books corrected my son's dyslexia and he graduated in the top of his class of 500 students in the gifted and talented program. He is very artistic and great at dramatics. He currently plays football at Westpoint. Like me he has always dreamed he can fly and can view the world from an aerial view as well as objects from different vantage points.

    In Canada you need a formal diagnosis for it to be acknowledge and accommodated. The schools will drag their feet on it, but to go to a psychologist it costs thousands of dollars.

    Everything you said I had. Good at maths. Couldn't spell or read properly. It still takes me ages for me to write a word spoken down (e.g if I ask how to spell something like CAT. someone would say C and it will take me a while to remember which letter belongs to the spoken word). I was told I couldn't read in front of my class. I was told I had ADHD and was later told I had dyslexia. I wish this was standard testing younger, because it was super hard doing school and feeling like you can't pass primary school. Now im ok, I just got a masters degree. Keep at it, you can achieve with a learning disability. However a lot of the time I wish i didn't have it. I still avoid reading and struggle to absorb what I've read.

      @@dyslexiacomau-tc7eb I have been seeing that while reading I at times read the words differenly.
      Examples: instead of "cut" suddeny i call as "cat" vice versa.
      If i read a 200 letter article, it may happen twice with me or once or at times no. When i read a liitle slow.

I believe like others that Dyslexia in some ways is a +, but I also believe that it is more of a problem in our educational systems than the public realizes at this time. Keep up the Good Works, FR.

      Thank You, but I am trying to deal with it at this time. Do you know if Dyslexia effect those that have it at times more than at other times: I'm of the opinion now that it does. Also I do see letters differently than what they are, at times. Although seeing letters like "q" for a "g", and "k" for "h" not capital letters,always lower case, and it is hard for even me to accept that fact, and I'm 71.

    • @dyslexiacomau-tc7eb
      @dyslexiacomau-tc7eb  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! So if someone has dyslexia, the degree by which it effects problems with reading, spelling, and writing CAN vary depending on multiple factors. You may be stressed by the activity or under pressure, or you may be disorientated and thus make more mistakes. Other times you may be focused and calm but still make the odd mistake, but not as many as when you were stressed. We find that absolutely the effects are different and the trigger points, or signs, change. Recently we worked with a 76 year old man with dyslexia. Check out his video here - th-cam.com/video/Xvczf0LejLA/w-d-xo.html

      Thank You, so much for your replies. Dyslexia is alive and well, a little in all of us. The fellow in the impressive video is 67 not "76", but being dyslexic myself I understand. Let's all work together on getting some type of program in all school systems that well hopefully detect the first signs of dyslexia in the very young students. You guys are doing great work, FR

    Hello. I have struggles reading aloud in class. I can read without my eyes going crazy. They focus on the shape and length of the word instead of the letters. I have some issues with spelling. I can't think of words I want to use without thinking about it for awile. I took an online screener and got 19% on the first section. It said I most likely have dyslexia. I also took a test on youtube and got only 1, no for the symtoms of dyslexia. There were 6 questions.
    Does anyone think I am dyslexic?

    I believe my granddaughter is dyslexic. She is 7 years old and struggles with reading, cannot do sight words and I noticed even just the word “of” starts being read as “f…? She starts with the f every time. She is very bright, but does struggle with phonics. Understands math very well. Oh, and I home school her. Which makes it even more difficult to do because we both get very frustrated. What non phonic based learning can I find to teach her? She is at a pre k-kindergarten level right now at 7 years old. Even writing is impossible because she struggles so badly with reading the simplest words.
