I don't think that line is what you think it is. The dark side's strong in that tomb and apathy is essentially the state of being completely indifferent to both light and dark side choices, ideas, actions, events, etc. Of course an extremist view on the force (that of the light or dark side) would consider apathy to be worse than death as that is a state that it cannot control. Put another way, if a force user has power but doesn't give a shit about anything neither the dark side nor the light side can make that force user do it's bidding.
Beware of what you call apathy, lest the beasts tug on your loose heartstrings and convince you to hurt yourself with oh so assuredly important action for their own petty benefit.

By choosing to do nothing you are still influencing events. Apathy is a lie.
In the sith tomb it’s weakness to show your true self. In that scenario apathy is the best course of action. It was the tomb trying to manipulate you. Choose a side and you would fail this leason.
For me, the most iconic line of the game. And the most iconic scene too. So many emotions here...comic relief (lol HK-47), trepidation, conflict, not to mention this is the first time we see Traya in her true colours. Mesmerisingly good.
Not neccessarily. You can get enough influence with her to listen to her "backstory"(aka the "Kreia's fall" cutscene) beforehand.

I wonder why the tomb/Kreia would think that the vision of HK 47 delivering the line would be appropriate to teach a lesson.
I think the dark side's just using all your companions cause not caring is worse than death for both the extreme ends of the light and dark sides of the force.
Just head-canon mumbling here, but I like to think that at some point many years before TSL, Kreia went through the vision-tomb herself, and whatever she experienced there contributed to her spiritual descent.
She sure seems to know it'll be hard to balance herself on Korriban.

Agreed there's a lot of truth to that line especially considering it's the dark side saying it since if a force user has power but doesn't give a shit about anything then neither the dark side nor the light side can make that force user do it's bidding thereby making the force user worse than useless to the force.
Unless it was on your part. There is added symbolism with sith "kreia" holding the stereotypical blue light saber of the Jedi. As well as many ways to interrupte that.

The tomb, imo, is a darker take on the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future trope.
Woody Hayes even mentioned to avoid apathy like the plague.
i've forgotten much about this game, but 2 things i've never forgotten: this scene and the usually unserious party member talking about he murdered jedi.

The Exile's responses though... she's right, why does she (and the players) even bother with this obvious vision nonsense?
The Dark Side is shaming you, trying to goad you into making a poor decision that brings you closer into it's influence. It frames you as being "apathetic" when truthfully, you're ignoring it's attempts to sway you.
Late, but this is more like a questions to exile's mind. If you refuse to bother with them it's like refusing to think about it - lame, but understandable, you're not forced to answer. Like yeah, both you and the tomb know that this is visions, it's not really trying to set up a convincing grand illusion, so it's more of a visualization of the questions it asks you, and the only reason you should bother with it is to question yourself, if you feel like it touches something important.
But honestly i chose "Was i supposed to learn something from it?" in the end, since my exile wasn't confused about life choices. Good thing there's that option, to actually tell the game that all of this was meaningless nonsense to my character.
Anyone else get motivated to work because of this video?

This scene is great, and it freaked me the hell out when I first ran into it, but man could the voice actors have used a unified cue on the line they're given. Kreia, Brianna, and Visas are out here straight-up killing the "Apathy is death" delivery while Mira and Mical mumble it tonelessly and HK-47 goes even hammier than usual.
