Most people here were probably my age here 35 years ago, its amazing to think about how much society has come for LGBTQIA+ rights. But we are still working towards better improvements, pride has and always was a protest and as long as we exist there will always be pride✊🚩🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Am currently reading the novel "Unreal City" by Neil Powell which is centred on an attempt by members of the Metropolitan Police to frame a politician carrying the banner at this protest alongside a soap opera and two pop stars. Reference is also made to there being a set done by a "bloody awful scottish comedian."
Considering the population of Greater London in the 1981 was 14% ethnic minority and in the 1991 census 20% ethnic minority, it would seem that ethnic minorities are either not very well represented in this 1988 march, or are proportionally far less interested in it. From looking at those marching, it seemed to be a lot less than 1% ethnic minority, just 1 person maybe 1 or 2 others I missed, out of 1000 people. The only other ethnic minorities in the clip were some South Asian gentlemen walking down the street.
I participated in this March against Clause 28, I stayed in the UK at the time. Way back in 1988.
