Niiiice! I love Kuusamo! Been allover Lapland, But Kuusamo has a special place in my heart since my childhood. Was there a lot. And reminded by that when I was last time there couple of years ago, for a 4 days fishing trip to Kitkajoki. Damn, was just talking with a friend yesterday jokingly, hey lets go to Kuusamo!. Yes Steve I remember 😂. The whole system with the cabins and shelters is phenomenal expecially with firewood and axes all provided. Just wouldn't work in many countries. Too many people in the UK. People are good in small doses. Finland is good for people they behave themselves and don't talk too much. On this video you saw a malfunctioning one, Marika, she is a little chatterbox. Very nice country side, reminds me of Northeast Minnesota, a place that long ago many people from Finland emigrated to in North America because it looked and felt like their native land. Darn Tough young woman out on the trail, enjoying Mother Nature’s gifts.
When I see different parts of America in movies it really amazes me, sometimes it looks like Spain, sometimes like Finland. I guess that is normal for a country so huge, very wide variety of different terrain. Marika doesn't look so darn tough, but after a long day of working with the dogs in extreme cold on very little sleep you see her true colours. Usually the only one still smiling. The good old Finnish sisu is strong in that one. Sisu being fortitude, something the Finns pride themselves on. Thanks for watching mate.
My wife has a pair of those very same Darn Tough socks. Takes more than tough socks to be a dog musher that is very true. Some of our Alaska huskies were white with black markings. Mine came indirectly from the famous George Attila he said that the dogs that were white, with black marking were from a Dalmatian male dog that used to chase his truck at Cary high speeds for a dog. One day with a female sled dog in full heat, he stopped and bred her to him. Those puppies from that union were not especially fast but their progeny were.
@@RichardBarnes-nb6nz interesting stuff, I am at a sled dog simposium this week. There is a lot of talk about mixing breeds. We can tell your wife and Marika that the socks are interesting too😂. Great story about the dalmatian. A lot of our dogs are black and white. You also seem to get different looking dogs in different kennels and countries. Unni and Ulna are quite similar, both from different kennels in Norway. Norwegian dogs tend to be bred more for racing. Ulna used to be her strongest female, now it's Unni who herself is getting older and soon will be passing on that title to a younger dog. Probably a Norwegian.

OK so as for CPM3V and other high end steels I have no experience as they are out of my price range. D2 I find to be a little chippy on the edge but fine for something like a folder. My favourite steels are 80CRV2 and 14c28n for durability vs ease of sharpening. Of the 2 I would choose 80CRV2 unless you want a stainless. I have also come across some Chinese steels that neither hold or take an edge. As well as the type of steel also the hardness /heat treatment is also an important factor. The 1095 in a schrade is not the same as the 1095 in an Esse. I prefer the hardness to be under 60 on the rockwell scale about 58. I am also here describing pretty much the most common knives available in Finland with my choices. There could be a couple of reasons for that 1 they are designed to be used in exactly this environment for the exact same purposes. 2 you tend to trust what you are used to using. 3 Finland has a long tradition of producing good quality knives and know what they are doing when it comes to steel choices and heat treatment. I have Bark river Bravo 1.5 in 3v, that was given to me as a present. It is a awesome knife and I do from time to beat the crap out of it splitting wood for fire in my jungle. It can take some serious punishment splitting up dried up oak branches. By the way, I bought 9 bottles of the SOFT SKIN Avon mosquito juice, I have tons of nasty knats in my area and have been bitten so many times! LOL! I love the spray, I am not sure how I missed it all these years. THANK U SO MUCH. Best wishes.
