This is what I have comment in his video (sorry my bad English) You don’t go in times of war to the country of your enemy to an area that needs permission to be in it, unless you want some obvious response from their part. And you don’t present any proof of it. You are here reading a text, using A.I. Videos and images, and putting somber music to emphasize your talking points, all making Russian police/government to look movie bad. The documents could be fake as well. Did you wrote the text? Did you choose carefully each image and wrote the prompts to get some software to create the videos? You did that while being traumatized by the experience? Or somebody else did the work for you? You sound very calm reading the text… because this is not a first take of somebody talking freely about what’s happened to him, and also you are trying to get the empathy of the listener saying things like, how would you feel? What do you think? Etc etc with all the tricks to do so, the music, the pauses, the tone, the cuts, the editing. Who do you work for?
Sabbatical's arrested video is over the top with AI but no doubt he was arrested. Apparently this host thinks that you have to praise Russia or you're an idiot and deserve to be arrested! This is like the others on this subject, snipping, but that is it.
It's more than AI. The guy makes a littany of screw ups but fails to take any repsonbility for his actions. The only thing he said in both the videos, was at the end of this video where he said something like 'so I made a few jokes!'. It's really pathetic, he went to Russia with the explicit intention to create propaganda that suits the Western narrative. So he shouldn't be too surprised that his jailing fitted that same narrative
@@TallTravels 'Russia with the explicit intention to create propaganda that suits the Western narrative' - This is your propoganda. Keep spreading your agenda (or really screwed up mindset)... In reality we can see the guy acting/speaking in the same ways no matter where in the world.
A bit off topic.I was watching a video today where a Russian girl who was imprisoned in China for a month mentioned that some of her inmates were sentenced for 5 days in detention because of not paying over a fare in public transport.😎👆
Tommy is probably now eating Kung Pao chicken and Dim Sum in Shanghai . Igor loves a metro 🚅 . He will probably be wandering around down there a lot now winter is among us. ❄️❄️ 🦌
I've never watched that drunk's channel, no interest. I even got bored typing this. I prefer watching something informative, even a bit of a laugh. He is neither.
Russian hockey player Maxim Sergeev has been sentenced to three years in prison in Poland on charges of espionage. Local media write that the athlete, who played in the Polish league, was supposed to "publish political content on social networks" and "document strategic objects
My final words (let's hope!) on all of this: I would not make my decision on whether to visit Russia off of Tommy's situation. I don't think you can extrapolate a normal tourist's expected experience with a TH-camr who made some very basic mistakes. I'm not saying I would go to Russia at this time of conflict (as I wouldn't go to Ukraine or Iran) but it wouldn't be because of what happened to Tommy. There's all these theories that Tommy was a CIA plant, etc., but I think it's rather simple. He was after views for his channel. Nothing wrong with that but I just can't feel sorry for him when he so obviously was asking for this.
are you now "based" in Pridnostrovie? If so Id happily support what you are doing. I actually supported Sabattical once I knew he was going to Russia. Disappointed how it ended for him doing stupid things in stupid places.
I watched his initial Russia video, it was "interesting", he very clearly had an anti-russia bias going into it but he did somewhat try to dig a bit, clickbaiting the video and dramatizing Russia several times though, I think he's watched too many "evil russian" hollywood movies in his youth.. but this propaganda video he released is on another level, I'd wager he was paid to do it. This whole Russia series of his might've been a set up from the start, the plan was always to get arrested so he could make a hit piece for views ($). Maybe we'll find out eventually, but either way, however much of it was real, the fact that he claims "all of russia" is the same, this region has the same laws, culture and such, as Moscow, is absolutely ridiculous, only a child would say such a stupid thing. That's like saying you'd have the identical experience with law enforcement in America, more than twice the population and over 50 states, you have a wildly different experience depending on where you go and laws greatly differ from state to state, sometimes so much that you absolutely risk going to jail by doing the same thing. 👮
@@N1mbleOne His first video got promptly demonetized, so I wouldn't be surprised if some deal was made that at the end of his trip, he'd set something up to make Russia look bad for his audience. They clearly cared about him going there as a travel vlogger with a large audience.
@ , if you’re deciding upon what comments are appropriate to appear or not, then it is YOU who is censoring other’s right to freely express themselves. Don’t pass off blame to TH-cam.
I watched one episode of him in Russia . I felt like He behaved over the top . He thought he’s better than Russians all the time . I guess it’s typical for Americans
Again with the crap. I thought it was obvious from his commentary that he was shocked/surprised of the new charges in court because they had been fabricated. He was not aware that any of his behaviour was illegal, and he was not making propaganda videos as you claim. If you look at any other video from anywhere else on his vlogs his behaviour and attitude is exactly the same - this was not specific to Russia - it's just his mannerism like it or not. He wasn't without identification. He had copies of documents on his phone so could show his identity and back it up with the physical documents he had in safe storage back at the hotel. You suggest he is copying Bald - yet he's never had any affiliation or mentioned him before so you are making assumptions and stating it as fact... The crime in reality was being oblivious to the unusual Russian laws of not being allowed to travel to places that are fully accessible without any restrictions. The punishment was 15 days of psychological torture. That's heavy handedness by gov officials. Generally speaking the Russians I have met have been fairly pleasant and open. My neighbours both in Australia, and Thailand are Russian, and normal people - we've enjoyed each others company many times, but they are also open to the fact that they don't like how things are done inside of Russia sometimes. I notice that you had NOTHING critical to say about the way everything was handled. You believe this is 'western propaganda' but to what end? I don't believe ignorance or misunderstanding of rules/laws should land anyone 15 days of jail and psychological torture in a civilised world - just a simple explanation should have been enough! All of this his leads me to believe you are in fact trying to save face for the atrocious behaviour of these government officials. If anything that is a true form of propaganda - blindly supporting this behaviour! iDioT!!!
If he was not aware that his actions were illegal than he's extremely naive at the very least. As he said himself his videos are clickbait, and if the rest of his videos are in the same style then he should have been dropped it in a country that's in a serious war, the same or worse would have happened if he did such things in Ukraine. If he's going to be walking around sensitive borders especially then he needs the original document, it's a crime that he hasn't produced the ID on request. You also seem to have conveniently overlooked the fact that he was resisting arrest, even in the company of a translator. Sabbatical seemed to make a beeline for Birobidzhan and ignore other places that he claimed he wanted to visit, it was a very odd itinerary, and being jailed in exactly the same place as Bald is a glaring coincidence. Then there's a the very similar presenting technique. But you can think what you like. I'm sure Russians have plenty of things to say about how things are done in your country too. I don't have anything bad to say about how things were handled, he has nobody but himself to blame in this situation. A simple explanation would have been enough? Haha, don't be ridiculous, it might have seemed an innocuous situation to you, but imagine he did the same on another hot border somewhere in the world, then decided to resist arrest. The border guards need to act with an over-abundance of caution. Psychological torture, it's called prison, and he had a soft version it seems, kept away from the the rest of the Russian prisoners apart from one cell mate. Sabbatical needs to man up, he took zero responsibility for his actions, and said it all happened because he's American.
@TallTravels 1. The point of the vlog is that he was shocked by the fact that he was convicted of resisting arrest, when he claims he didn't, yet you repeat this rhetoric... 2. Why is there something 'hot' about that border? As per his blog, the local taxi driver recommended the location, and it wasn't exactly secure if a public taxi can just drive there... Points that you keep repeating for your agenda.. He could be lying about these things of course, but being that he's spent the past couple of years putting out content I suspect not... Even if he was, what propoganda message do you suppose it was trying to make - it seems a little illogical and pointless.... Logic suggests that he was telling it how it was...
He didn't claim responsibility for anything at all, so I'm going with the border guards on this one. An American filming at a Russian/Chinese border during war is literally the dumbest thing you can do, especially as he lived in China 😂, and as Tommy said Russia and China don't completely trust each other. So he should take recommendations from taxi drivers?
@TallTravels I don't think anyone is debating whether it naive, dumb or whatever... The story from both yourself and your other youtube mate you promoted were both a mixture of. 1 he's outright lying. 2 he's blowing it all out of proportion. 3 he's possibly been hired by another gov to do this. 4. He specifically went to Russia to create propoganda vids. 5. The gov there did nothing that they wouldn't have done to anyone else (fabrication of a case to hold someone for a period of time whilst they investigate more, or not), and they must without question have been in the right. 5. You encourage the speculation of any involvement in other gov agencies, etc. by your reaction and replies to comments.... This is actual propoganda - repeated rhetoric in attempt to sway peoples thoughts......Whilst in reality take away all of the crap, and look at the only real evidence we have, and he was a vlogger doing nothing different than he did everywhere else in the world for content over more than 2 years, visiting many places off the tourist track - including sarcasm, clickbait titles and imaging, all in a similar way.. The only difference is that in Russia he was treated differently, and you guys just want to make him out to be the problem for some reason..
@@evansmusic2009 I have never said that he was outright lying, it's clear to see that he was imprisoned. Being hired by the CIA was a distinct possibility, although he clearly performed very poorly in his mission if this is the case/ I think more probable was that he was just trying to emulate Bald. I'm not encouraging speculation, when you have a situation where things are not 100% clear then of course you will speculate. What is not in doubt is that he went to Russia to make videos that align with the Western mainstream narrative on Russia... 'There's no men left in Russia!' etc. You claim that by filming at this border he has done nothing differently, compared to other parts in the world. Please tell me where he was filming at an international border with a country that was at war. Bald and Bankrupt was caught doing exactly the same thing at the Ukraine/Russia border one day before the war started, he was interrogated by SBU, no doubt he had his ID on him and didn't resist arrest like Sabbatical did though. Bald was subsequently made persona non grata from Ukraine
For some reason a lot of travel youtubers crap on other travel youtubers. It's pretty classless but your audience seems to like it judging from the comments. I've found Tommy to be a relatively even-handed guy. He's certainly not very political on his channel. I'm far from a lover of Ukraine or hater of Russia, but at the same time it's obvious the Russian authorities were unnecessarily harsh with him and ended up kicking the ball into their own goal.
The court papers said he was asked to provide ID while lurking around the Chinese border and instead of doing so he got in to an argument with the cops claiming he didn't have to show them ID because he wasn't doing anything wrong. There is no way he could be so stupid as to think that is a viable argument to make to an Eastern European police officer so it lends credence to the idea he was TRYING to get arrested for clout and clicks, thinking he'd get the same brief detention and order to leave the country that Bald got and was bitter when instead he got a (well deserved) full two weeks in the clink.
What's classless is going to a country with the intention to crap on it. His agenda was clear from the outset, but then you say he's not political. As well as making propaganda videos, he seemed to desperately want to go to the Chinese/Russian border where he was caught illegally filming, and to cap it off he resisted arrest. He got what was coming
You skipped the part when he told one of the guards "Они плохие люди" (they're bad people) and then the other guard coming back and reprimanding him for it. Sounds straight out of an action comedy. Overall, very ridiculous and to pretend this only happens in "tyrannical countries" is a bold faced lie. We haven't seen the reverse because nobody cares to watch vlogs from western countries, but somehow, I don't think if a Russian citizen was visiting US would be well received if he started hanging around any border areas or places like Area 51. They're probably do even worse.
Sabbatical speaks in the usual platitudes about Russia that you hear in the mainstream media and by those that digest it on a regular basis. His bias is rather apparent and I think it's evident he wasn't really going there with a warm, open-armed approach and had some preconceived notions from the beginning of his journey. His visit to the Jewish autonomous zone aroused curiosity and was an unusual inclusion for a traveler's itinerary, like he had some underlying motive or agenda. He claims in the video that people tend to think he is Jewish (though he isn't, nor does it matter) because of his accent, yet aside from his appearance itself, and the accent, he names his channel "Sabbatical." I don't think it's impossible that he had some ulterior motive for his trip. At the very least, he didn't want to have an overly friendly and open approach to the country so to not disappoint some viewers...what a waste of what could have been a great trip, in that case.
Yes, it seemed odd that he went straight to Birobidzhan in the far East after Yekaterinburg. One would have thought he'd visit Novosibirsk and Irkutsk for Baikal along the way.
Seems a bit strange visiting Russia and just making videos criticising the country and filming at borders. I have a question. Do you always carry around your passport when you are in Russia? Normally I just take a photo of the passport, immigration card, hotel registration and visa and leave in my phone.
No I don't. I do carry a Serb identity card though. I've been stopped twice for Jay walking. Don't know what would have happened if I didn't have the ID
4:46 This is the problem: Even though the whole world knows Russia invaded Ukraine, Russia can’t admit it and will go so far as to jail and fine anyone who dares speak the truth.
@@mitchrodee if you have the same situation at your border, you will act the same or worst. Your supposedly high moral ground that has been pushed around the world by movies an propaganda has been erased by your own actions after the Cold War.

Interesting comments from Sabbatical at the end about avoiding travel in Russia. I would add especially not if you are going to lurk around in a dingy tee shirt with your head on a swivel, looking quite suspicious in a country currently threatened by the West. Your assessment of the situation is spot on. Thanks
Could be but I doubt it. I take him at face value in that he's trying to make a living on TH-cam. Nothing wrong with that. You have to have an angle to do that. His angle is to learn a few words of the country he's visiting, learn a little about the history of the country (although it appears to be skewed to the controversial history which all countries have) and meet with ordinary people. It's a pretty good formula. But I (and I'm sure many others) have noticed he's trying to 'stretch' the controversial part as he's apparently (per his own words) not making the income he was hoping. I am sure he is (not so) secretly pleased of the results of his Russia trip. I was waiting eagerly for the story of his arrest as apparently many others were. I am not as dismayed by his arrest story as Tall is but I can understand and agree with Tall's take because he's living there and knows fact from B.S. Reading between the lines in Tommy's story Tall nailed it. Tommy served 15 days for not following the instructions of the police. End of story. In the U.S. it's highly publicized on the news and social media that you can, and even have the right, to be disrespectful to the police. Only a fool takes his attidude of his own country into another country. Now, I'm not saying Tommy's a fool. But I'm not saying he isn't either. And why did't Tommy have his passport on him? I'm old. I've been all over the world including the Middle East in the 80's (Syria, Iraq as well as the normal Saudi Arabia). Of course the electronics wasn't the same back then but even I knew that I ALWAYS needed to have my passport with me. I even went for a run in Damascus (I was a serious runner back then) and put my passport in a baggie and tucked it in my shorts. I would love to hear Tommy's reasoning.

@@bobh757 So he's an idiot in every country he goes to then...criticising the history of countries, making snide remarks about the locals, illegally filming prohibited areas. What a guy! OK give me the time stamps with all the nice things he said please. Perhaps you should stick to your state propaganda
@TallTravels will do. But maybe you should actually watch videos of people before you criticize them. He makes snide remarks sure. But have you ever met a new Yorker? You say he's an idiot for expressing opinions? What propaganda do I watch? Apparently you know what media I consume. Plus, where I live there is no state propaganda. Hint, I don't live in Russia
@bobh757 I watched all of them from start to finish. No state propaganda in your country? 🤣🤣🤣. That's it I'm done.
I watched his videos. He says good things in a manner: I say good things with a smile on my face and a hand on your shoulder and I piss on your shoes.

Sabbatical really pissed me off, literal manchild having a tantrum, the blatant propaganda was straight up disgusting, all of his followers eating his word vomit too, I knew there would be videos calling out his bullshit and that's how I found your video, I agree on every single point you made, you've earned yourself a new subscriber! 🎄
This is what I have comment in his video (sorry my bad English)
You don’t go in times of war to the country of your enemy to an area that needs permission to be in it, unless you want some obvious response from their part.
Who do you work for?
funny you mention an agenda...
No one in europe would get arrested for making pictures of a bloody bridge no offense.

Sabbatical's arrested video is over the top with AI but no doubt he was arrested. Apparently this host thinks that you have to praise Russia or you're an idiot and deserve to be arrested! This is like the others on this subject, snipping, but that is it.
If you are an idiot that breaks the law and the law states that you should be arrested and deported, you deserve to be arrested.

Don't forget his previous video before this titled "there are no more men in russia" that's really positive towards russia
@@mrniceguy8600 that title was based on a quote from one of the women he talked to
@bobh757 and I'm sure he's got similar "rational explanations" for all his negative click bait titles and tongue in cheek commentary.
Agreed
are you now "based" in Pridnostrovie?

@@gabrielbakalarz5722 this comment is borderline retarded
@@TallTravels More Agenda from yourself! You obviously love the heavy-handed approach and are ignorant of evidence which doesn't suit your agenda.

I wish the U.S. had the same self-respect as Russia and Estonia.
Well done, Tall... 😊
Spot on really...
Non scherzate con la Russia
Sabbatical speaks in the usual platitudes about Russia that you hear in the mainstream media and by those that digest it on a regular basis. His bias is rather apparent and I think it's evident he wasn't really going there with a warm, open-armed approach and had some preconceived notions from the beginning of his journey. His visit to the Jewish autonomous zone aroused curiosity and was an unusual inclusion for a traveler's itinerary, like he had some underlying motive or agenda. He claims in the video that people tend to think he is Jewish (though he isn't, nor does it matter) because of his accent, yet aside from his appearance itself, and the accent, he names his channel "Sabbatical."
I don't think it's impossible that he had some ulterior motive for his trip.
He also told the Russian Police (according to the report he showed) that he was working on a documentary of Jewish history.

Interesting comments from Sabbatical at the end about avoiding travel in Russia. Your assessment of the situation is spot on. Thanks
He is a c.i.a asset 100%
