Love the new setup. I kind of liked the straight angle in the studio B with all the cameras. But man... do I miss the OG setup when my mind was blown with his broll clips of coffee :)
I just graduated from a bachelor's degree this year. I have yet to fully decide whether to continue a masters degree or find work by September. But I decided to work on a project of mine which is filming videos about self-development on TH-cam. I've already uploaded 6 and will keep doing so over the summer. Thank you Peter for the filming tips and inspiration. You're a legend. 🙏🔥
I really like how your TH-cam studio doesn't look like the classic youtuber. Very clinical and purposeful hoping to try and fuse that with my own style when I get a space for it. Awesome look at your thought process!
Thank you! As a proud owner of a bedroom corner studio I can't agree more with the final points. Love where you work, make it work for you. I literally have a meter between the bed and my desk to move but using, for example, gear from Elgato and a ton of IKEA stuff I made it work! The setup from dark room to recording takes 1 minute.
Peter, I only first came across your content last week, but in that time have spent countless hours sourcing inspiration and filmmaking tips from your videos. With this whole (dare I say it) pandemic occurring, the creative portion of my brain has started to peak, as I'm sure it's done with many others around the world! I've just taken the plunge in posting my first TH-cam video/short movie in YEARS thanks to you! Going to keep at it and GET SHIT DONE!!! THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION! YOU DA MAN
Never too late to find Pete's channel! I came across it two years ago, watched it from end to end and now I have PM cravings! :) Every single video has value in it! This man rocks!
Peter! My man, man. You just make me smile every time. It's just the energy and vibe you ooze off. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT WITH ME AND THE REST OF THE WORLD! WE NEED IT!
Your content Peter is absolutely grade A1.. Not only that, you are fantastic and passionate about what you do and that comes across so much. Loving your work..
Loved this video. I'd love to see something like "How to Prioritize Accessories to Purchase with $xxxx" series where you up the number every time. Obviously most of us don't go out and buy all our gear at once, so it would be awesome seeing an insight as to the order you bought every piece in. Would make for an interesting video for sure!
I got a whole tonne of value out of seeing you work through and talk through your setup for vlogging and love that you showed it all to us. Immense amounts of gratitude to you for making and publishing this video for aspiring nerds like me. You rock Peter.
MR McKinnon SIR: I've fallen from roofs, and got up unharmed. I've gone down on pavement form a bike going a bit over 70kph with no broken bones. Why should you care? The fall that broke my back and had me laying/sitting on my ass for two years until the pain was tolerable enough to get up and around was from HALF the height of that pile of apple boxes or stool you're standing on in this vid. Don't be stupid. Don't show that little Treasure you have at home thigs you say not to do are really safe after all, because you do them. Don't drain your savings for a year or two because of a millisecond surprise changes your life. Be smart. Teach your Treasure well. With Respect, Craig BTW... for those just starting their journey and with less moolah to throw around for a shotgun, less expensive mic nearly identical to the MKH 416 in frequency response/sound/weight is the Synco Audio Mic D-2. Probably won't last as long as the Senny, tho
Did look a bit risky on those stacked up dodgy! As someone who broke their leg at work stepping off something about the same height, and years later still feels the pain - this gave me some concerns seeing it too!
Haven't had a fall injury, unless you count being thrown from my bike after getting hit by a car, but the minute I saw that dodgy improvised ladder I was thinking "this looks like a fall waiting to happen why do you not have a small step ladder"
I just replayed "you just gotta commit" at least 10 times and hopefully I'll be able to to have a EOS R as my overhead camera after I become the next Peter McKinnon who's with me!? 😂
For anyone thinking "oh I don't have the room or space or ceiling where I'm able to get the setup that he has", I would say to be creative with it! See what you can do that makes you happy with the look while also incorporating some of the things Peter does. It's all about creativity, don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and try new things!
You're a star, you're one of the best at filmmaking, but on top of that, you're humble and you don't forget where you come from and how you improved and progressed. Thanks from Spain 😉
I am also looking for new ways to make my TH-cam backdrop better... Gotta be honest with you, I liked the dark theme old setting more mate! Cheers from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Wow! I loved seeing the difference when using a hair light. For me, it was quite a difference. For your shoulder sockets, you need some laying on the foam roller to open them up and decrease your risk of tearing a rotator cuff muscle. Always, wishing you the best PM.🦋
Right? Half of my bedroom is my office/studio. I love the hanging light idea since GF is constantly stubbing toes on the C-stand or light stand or (God forbid) the cameras. Maybe you have an opportunity to find some really cool stuff to put on shelves as part of your background?
Lightmode is giving me the feeling of like "This is some serious information in the video". But dark mode is like "This Dude is chilling in some kind of lounge and watching some Videos. I'm going to join him and watch some stuff. So I would use light mode for more serious stuff, revievs, tutorials,.. Darkmode is more for "Filmmaker Reacts..." "Critiquing your Videos" ...
Really cool setup Pete! I like the light mode and dark mode idea. I’m hoping to do a couple video of me cleaning out my garage and making it into a really cool shop/studio space.
When you said „hair light“ I was thinking of some sort of very thin light. Didn‘t imagine it‘s actually meant to light your hair 😁👍🏻 Personally I like the brighter setup more. But both is great. 👍🏻
It's crazy to see how big of a difference there is in the quality of your current setup compared to your older ones! It's always looked great, but this one is top notch! Inspiring!
I really love the Dark Mode! I'm actually re-working my Vlog/Studio place, and doing about exactly what your doing, doing the paint on the walls, a wooden wall, lights, I did made my own computer desk, and I'm recording everything, I hope it will do help with my vlogging hehehe but thanks for all the tips! Really really love your content!
P E T E R M C K I N N O N - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STANDING UP FOR BLACK LIVES. Much appreciated bro - you’ve inspired me so much with my videos/TH-cam channel and now even more 👊🏽 love bro - also dark mode is dope with the hair light 💡
Great video Peter. Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes. I really liked looking back through the old sets and your narrative on how and why they evolved. Although I'm happy at the moment with my setup just watching you talk with passion and enthusiasm and the way you cut to entertain has got me fired up and ready to record a new vid. Thanks man!
Dark mode with hair light looks the best and most dramatic. Some of the other youtubers use a colored light in background such as blue or purple. What are your thoughts about colored gels in back lights? From your examples of past setups, you use them occasionally, but not always.
Pete: Key light, window light, ties, more light, big camera, mic, small camera, this and that.. Me after 19 mins: (Understanding nothing) Wow what a great video Pete..
As someone who is about to launch a channel, this video was really helpful. I have a fairly small area to work with and trying to make it interesting has definitely been a struggle. I was about to film one way but after watching this video its really changed my perspective when it comes to the best possible way to utilize small space. It will most likely look like your starting videos but it will look a lot better than it was about to thanks to this video. Thanks again!
Me: Planning to get $70 soft box lights despite needing everything except a camera to make stuff. Also me: Wow I cannot believe how long I’ve been watching some these TH-camrs

I am a teacher in Monterrey, Mexico and this has given me so many great ideas about my own setup for my online sessions. Thank you so very much!
I’d be interested in seeing dark mode with the pics on the right individually lit
I thought of that too, but lowkey thinking it would distract me from the center though
@@revrenecalyx837 I thought of the same too
Exactly my thoughts
I agree, working on my stuff as well. :)
Dark mode makes me go “😍” every time.
Looking great in any setup, but of course the main angle after all re-adjustment is the coolest! Loving watching this over and over.
Just bought this desk, love it!
Who else gets the notification and just switches over to watch from whatever you are doing?
