I hate my front garden! currently it’s covered with poorly laid flags and I been wanting to rip it all back and put a lawn down. Lowest quotes I’ve got are over £1500 for just levelling and laying turf! ( I happy with removing the flags and all that myself) After seeing a few of your videos and just how easy you’ve made it look I’m going to have to take the leap and go for it! Thanks mate! Honestly amazing work!
Go for it a lot of these home diy tasks don’t require someone to come and do it for you most the times these tradesmen will charge people ridiculously for something your able to do yourself with a few TH-cam videos
Fantastic and very honest video. You talk very well and thank you for making this for us to see.
Just watched your scarifier videos yesterday, your garden is spot on mate 👌
Great video. Enjoyable watch.
This is everything I needed. Thankyou so much
Super helpful. Great job mate 👏🏻
Excellent tutorial. Just what I was looking for. I'm now leaning towards turfing because of the bird life I have. They'll have a field day.
Nice one!
I've watched all these videos and done or am in the process of doing much the same with my garden. Given the accent and the ground conditions I reckon you're pretty local to me 😂. Wanted to leave a comment to say thanks for the advice and inspiration!
Nice one! 👍🏻
I hope your renovation is going well!
GOOD JOB
great video
Nice one!
Your garden is coming along nicely pigeons are my nemesis.

Please can you list the first soil, the seeds right after and the soil and the seeds the second time
Are you suppose to put the pre seed fertiliser before seeding or after seeding and compost
Ive got the same topsoil, seems very stoney, was yours the same?
I've had some that are similar - seems a bit inconsistent at times
What's the soil you lay on top of it ?
starting off in a new home from same place as you did
lots of work next year
your videos are good inspiration
not sure if you would want to give some paid advice / guidance to start with and through the process
Glad you are finding them useful 👍🏻
Happy to help where I can. If you drop me an email, I’ll be happy to get back to you with any advice you need.
Can I do that this month “May”?
Hi,
Great video, really helpful for someone like myself whose attempting this themselves.
I’ve got a silly question regarding the height of the soil. I’ve got the borders in position and I’ve got the top soil ready to go.
Do I go inline with the top of the borders with my soil or go below? So the grass sits in line with the top of border?
What would you suggest?
Cheers
Nice one!
Not a silly question. If you can get enough soil down to get it in line with the borders, that will be ideal as you'll be able to get a clean cut with your mower. But it's no problem if you don't have enough soil to bring it to that level. You can build up the level year on year. That's what I'm doing.
I've used your vide as a guide to re do my lawn and about to put new seeds down. Fingers crossed 🤞
We have the perfect conditions at the moment - hope it's working out well! Even if it goes patchy, fertilise, cut and give it time - it will get there!
@@NoviceGardener on Friday I've spotted new baby grass coming through and today my whole lawn is looking green 💪 unfortunately some weeds also came through so I must of missed some roots but nevermind. I will wait for the new grass to grow out and once its established I will attack those weeds again.
If there are weeds, do you recommend applying week killer to remove the weeds first before applying the top soil?
You can do. Roundup is a decent product. It will kill anything off that is living in the lawn!
Hi done a few new areas myself last year, didn't get as good results as you, always trying to remember what I did last and what worked and what didn't, should make a note lol.
Still not convinced all birds eat the seed, but I can see pigeons probably would, however not seen alot where I live, so I always restle with the idea of putting compost on top in case the light doesn't hit the seed, however seemed to work for you, so what you think compost or not? I also noticed you never raked the seed in once you spread it, were you not afraid you wouldn't get good seed to soil contact, or do you also think the compost aided in this case, to keep it in place, cheers.
Don't worry about putting a thin layer of compost over the top. You don't actually need to cover it, but it will help with bird take. Landscaping fabric might be worth a try. It will make it so it is like a greenhouse underneath - it's the perfect time of year for it too!
I think I got lucky with my timing last year. But the weather at the moment should get you similar results.
I have hardcore in my garden. Can I place topsoil over the hardcore and then seed to make a lawn? If so how much top soil?
I'd want to remove the hardcore first, then get on with at least 100mm of top soil.
I have a tree in my front yard and its blocking the sun and cutting the tree isnt an option what recomendations can you have for me
You're best going with a seed mix that thrives in the shade. You can get shady mixes from different seed suppliers.
Amazing results really inspiring. My front lawn is a disaster and full of weeds. Do you have any advice on how to kill off the original lawn and start from scratch eg what weedkillers to use, how to remove existing debris, and when to do what?
You’ll want to use a decent weed killer to kill everything off. If I was you, I’d wait 2-4 weeks after application before putting a new layer of top soil down. After about a month, you should be good to go with seeding a new lawn. Roundup might be a good shout for a weed killer to use.
Good luck with your project, hope it turns out well 👍🏻
Get a large piece of black tarpaulin, fix it down across the lawn. The heat generated and the lack of light will kill everything. it will even prevent the weed's seeds from germinating and kill them off too:). also in this vid, and I don't speak from experience. Mr Alan titch marsh states that all the lawn seeds need light so shouldn't cover it with soil.
My front lawn seems about the same size as the one you're doing in the video. How many bags of top soil did you use before you put the seeds down?
I used 21 bags, but I think 30 would have been better as some patches are slightly thinner than others. But with the way the lawn has turned out, 21 seemed to do ok.
Good afternoon! Doesn't wood rot in the ground?
It will eventually, but with it being pressure treated, it should last a good few years 👍🏻
Do you not need to tread or roll the seed in ? I'm doing my lawn at the moment and there are so many mixed opinions ive no idea what to do. Your lawn is looking good
Definitely tread it in. If you don't. it will look even for a few weeks, but will eventually start to settle bumpy.
What seed did you use again please?
A1 Lawn Premiership Pro
How often did you water when you first added the grass seed?
Every morning and evening with this lawn just because of the time of year I put the seed down. But it will entirely depend on how moist the soil is. If you see it drying out too much, get some water on.
Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@NoviceGardener is it to late to seed Bermuda grass in June?
@@NoviceGardener in Arizona between 90 and 100 Fh degrees and sunny
What kind of seed is that????? Great video🤝🏿🤝🏿🤝🏿🤝🏿
Nice one! 👍🏻

Might be weird question lol but doy you get any daisies on ur lawn?
Never get daisies, but clover often creeps in. I don't tend to see many because of how often I'm cutting the lawn.
What month should I start this process
Best time to do this would be March/April and August/September
@@NoviceGardener thanks man
