      Thanks Nico, I drove past the lake yesterday on my way to another venue and it was frozen solid again so he was closed. The lockdown restrictions, flooding and bait availability are making it hard to get out anywhere but luckily no managed to find another local lake to fish yesterday for a few hours in sub zero temps and was lucky enough to get few out.

    Another great video just interesting what you said about the lake and the surroundings. Yes it’s about catching fish but been out in the countryside the fresh air the freedom the wildlife it’s good for the head and the soul

      That is so true David, even more so during these times. My day out fishing is the only time I really get out out of the house at present - working from home for the past year - I never thought I'd miss my commute but it gave me a mental break and bit of scenery to take in each day.

    Great fishing video on a natural water. Full of info on bait and tackle. You giving me the confidence to try natural water as not tried it for years and years.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Colin, I hope you put it into practice and go and try them and the rivers. Commercials have a place but I'd rather catch 5lb of roach and work for em than 100lb of carp. You'll learn a lot by reading the bites and adjusting your feed accordingly.

      It is difficult getting out mate I agree, luckily I found a half frozen lake on Sunday afternoon for a few hours. The tackle shop and bait situation isn't great either but at least we've always got the option of bread, corn, etc. Thanks for watching, stay safe. 👍

    John another great vid pal, some nice roach in that net. SMASHING. My Leeds book arrived yesterday, just waiting till levels drop a bit before I wander up to Wharfe for a sesh. Regards IAN

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, my book still hasn't turned up, ordered before Christmas, hopefully it'll land soon. With the local travel restrictions are you able to get to the Wharfe? It's outside of the local council authoritative area for me so I'm staying within that boundary just in case I end up being challenged. There's been a few chub out on the bread and Im desperate to go to the wharfe but if the rivers drop I'll be limited to the Ouse, Foss and Derwent until restrictions are lifted. Take care mate.

    Excellent content in all your vlogs.
    I see your using a Sphere bomb,lovely rods and recently bought the match rod while I could as Browning have just discontinued them.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, yes I absolutely love the sphere rods, I have the 12ft medium and 13ft medium heavy feeders as well. I've got acolytes for my float rods as they're such good value for money. I didn't like the action of the acolytes in the feeder range, so it was Browning and if money were no object, I'd have everything in the sphere range. I think Browning are killing it with their design and build. The new sphere whip looks amazing but has the price tag to match 😲

    That reel sounds awful, bit of grease might help.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't actually sound like that Keith, it's as smooth as butter, albeit probably 12 years old, the microphone was set way too hot on the input so you could hear my every breath, not sure what it was picking up maybe the line lay or coming through the butt ring on the rod but its not audible to the ear.

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John, bomb rod is the 10ft browning sphere, waggler is the 13ft drennan acolyte plus. Reel on the bomb is a 2500 Shimano Exage, (stradic gtm 2500 rc are still available if you're looking for similar), and on the waggler it's an original Daiwa 3012 TDR.

    Great vid, I’ve picked up my fishing gear after 20 years after watching the barbel on Derwent sesh,👍
    one question , why on this waggler are the float stops you leve a gap not just tight to lock it? Thanks keep the great work up 🙌

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bruce, that's great that you've dusted the rods off...bet you're glad you kept them and never sold up 👍. There is a gap to allow the line to hang straight below the float thereby ensuring bite detection is direct. If you lock the float in tight either with float stops or shots then if you think about it the line will sit off the the side of the float. You could just try it and hold the float by the tip to see the effect of how the line hangs on each setup. Leaving a gap also allows the float to collapse on the strike, thus reducing friction and improving hook ups. Welcome back to the sport and tight lines. 🐟🎣

      Just stuck for time Trevor, I have to work all week and the one remaining tackle shop that's open in York are on limited opening hours by prior appointment collect only it's making bait and tackle difficult to get hold of.

      @@HOOKEDFishingChannel down here in Norfolk we find some of the pet shops are very good for seeds and brown crum. Anyway you found a fish or two thats always good especially in the weather at the moment should be getting milder next week things might improve all around. See ya soon

    • @HOOKEDFishingChannel
      @HOOKEDFishingChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Used to be able to buy it loose by the scoop along with tares and wheat in all the pet shops round here and as you say by the sack but these days none of them stock it and most of the small independent shops have long gone. The last time I got a sack it was by special order. It's easier for me to just get it from the tackle shop these days. I normally keep hook hemp in the freezer but I'm out of stock and so was the tackle shop. It was a cold one yesterday and the lake I fished in this video was frozen solid again.
