    No one gets anywhere fast by rushing in London, cyclists will always beat you, so don't try to race ahead. Car drivers just make themselves look like fools, put everyone in danger, and get points and fines. All risk, no reward.

    • @CyclingMikey
      @CyclingMikey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Because that's good cycling and is the result of govt. approved cycle training and experience. It's a pedestrian heavy area, so I'm leaving space for one unexpectedly walking out from behind one of those parked cars, I'm leaving space for someone to open a car door on me, and space for all the unexpected movements you get on a road like that. Fair enough?

    As someone who lives in the NL who are known for having alot of bikers and bike traffic ; you guys have some weird ass laws on bikers , if you cycled like that in holland you would be ran over in about 2 seconds ; there are rules to it over here and you cant just cycle in the middle of a street like we see people doing here ; if you do then YOU are in the wrong ; not the car-driver
    Then again we are smart enough to have designated biking paths on EVERY SINGLE ROAD so this shit doesnt happen :) england might wanna think about investing in some of them

    • @CyclingMikey
      @CyclingMikey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      You mean ride left hard against the parked cars? That's about the worst advice you could possibly give. It's a narrow lane, pass when safe, don't expect cyclists to get out of your way. That's very discourteous of you and of the driver of DV67VGN. th-cam.com/video/lcTGhlstgQM/w-d-xo.html Secondly this is London, if you can't anticipate that you'll be queuing and the cyclist will be past you very shortly, then you couldn't plan a piss-up in a brewery.

      @th3d3wd3r 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      If you cycle in the door zone, one day you're going to get fucked up by someone opening their door on you. Would it not be courteous of the driver to wait until it's safe to overtake and leave a bit more room while doing so? Why would you assume that riding primary (aka keeping yourself safe) is discourteous?
      You've never rode a bicycle or a motorbike have you.

      "He can't exactly anticipate he's going to be at a red light..."
      That is pretty the one thing that you can anticipate - especially when driving in London. Travelling slower behind a cyclist, generally makes little difference to a motorist's average speed. Unsafe overtakes and speeding usually only serve to allow you to reach the end of the next queue of traffic sooner. You just get to burn more fuel and sit in stationary traffic for longer - is that really worth endangering people's safety for?

      You need remedial driving and cycling lessons, Martin. First off you're stupid and impatient to expect cyclists to ride in the gutter. Instead we're taught to take the lane and to ride out of the deadly door zone - this is taught to school children. Fuck off over to the next lane if you want to pass, and don't be an impatient prick like this driver was.

    • @DCFC79
      @DCFC79 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I dont see a problem with what Mikey did, they have to ride in that position as there is a chance a car door could open, whether by a driver not checking the mirror or a backseat passenger and the cyclist hits the door and is injured.
      We all use the road so care needs to be used when your faced with cyclists, I hate the ones who ride side by side, need to be single file.

    • @MS-19
      @MS-19 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Actually, the road is there as much for cyclists and horse riders as it is for drivers. Everyone has to follow the Highway Code. The Highway Code does not assume that you are in any kind of hurry or that your means of conveyance is faster or more powerful than another's. Therefore, such factors do not confer any kind of "ownership" of the roads. If you find yourself behind a slower vehicle - whether it's a cyclist or another car - you maintain a slow speed to hold behind them at a safe distance until it is safe to pass them, and you pass them in a safe manner, i.e. without exceeding the speed limit and putting plenty of room between yourself and them, which more often than not means moving fully over into the adjacent lane. There is no arguing against that. If you don't like it, use public transport on which you will be driven by drivers that are properly trained.

    • @Jamsnaxx
      @Jamsnaxx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The more room you give to cars the more likely they are to try and inappropriately & dangerously overtake you. The car driver almost ran a pedestrian over and was speeding to overtake in between parked cars. All for what?
