I have an older FS40 Trimmer that was hard to start, if started, so I purchased a Carburetor, luckily it was for a newer model, and I returned it. I removed the Spark Arrestor, put fire to it, removed the carbon deposit, and now it runs like a champ. I did have to adjust the idle control screw to eliminate the staling when the trigger was released. Not often does one find a DIY Video that is entertaining and informative. Thank you...
John I hope you feel better!! Get outside get some fresh air! Have an awesome weekend! Do something nice for yourself! I love treating myself to blizzards! Lol. Thanks for watching! Matt
My FS56RC was acting up. Replaced the carburetor, still was acting up. Watched this video, and torched my exhaust screen. Runs like a charm now, thank you.
Great advice. I had this issue with my stihl. I was surprised how little carbon build up causes this problem. Saved $$ not having to send for a service. 🖒🖒🖒
Was hoping this would solve my problem. Unfortunately it did not. I have replaced fuel filter, air filter and spark plug. New gas. When I pulled the spark arrestor out, it was clean as a whistle. So my next step is to buy a carburetor. Good video!
Mine was dirty exhaust screen. It’s that Stihl 2 cycle oil the dealer scares you into buying. Cleaned my exhaust screen and switched to Echo oil. Much mo better!
While the type of oil might have an effect, it also produces more carbon when you aren’t using Wide Open Throttle. These machines are usually designed to be WOT 100% of the time so if you’re just puttin’ around, blipping the throttle, it produces more carbon. Hope this helps!
Thank you so much I could not figure out what was wrong with my steel weed eater is always worked great but it had lost power and we couldn't figure out why my brother tried checking the gas make sure of course in the air filter in the primer ball and everything we could think of and it was the spark arrestor screen it totally fixed it in minutes so I'm very grateful thank you I have my weed eater back
Someone buy this man a cup of coffee! Had me back up and running in under 5 minutes. Spark Arrestor was clogged.. The Still dealer is half hour away so I burned it out as well, a shot of Clean Streak cleaner, and compressed air.. she's purring like a kitten.
I hope this was it. I’ve been having the same problem with both my km91r and br600. It’s 11 at night and I just went down to my basement and removed the screens from both of them. Both very black. I don’t think my wife would appreciate me starting them up right now 😂 but fingers crossed for tomorrow. They would both run ok when starting from cold but the minute I stopped them and pick them up a few minutes later they’re both running like crap. It’s not the amount of oil because I measure it to the drop and I also just changed all the fuel filters, air filters and spark plugs. So I’m really hoping this is it.
Havein the same problem. I did make a bad mix batch but they still ran then made it right and run good for the first few time then bog and die constantly the blower is doin better then the trimmer I even removed the screen on the trimmer and same thing runs like crap in the hot it seems
Well, a guy at work gave me a “56” that didn’t run right for parts. Turned out to be an FS70 with FS56 plastics on it. No big deal I’m getting a new one and a source of spare parts is nice, but it doesn’t idle right. Might try this. On a side note, my FS56 has ran for years, and I mean 6+ that I know of, never had the spark arrestor taken off or cleaned and still runs good. Guess I got lucky
Thank you I have stihl FS 55 R the screen was in a different place it was round and filthy I took it to farm and home for a replacement but they cleaned it for me N/C and it stayed running thanks again
Brother you are sooo original. I love the way you explain. Thank you. God bless you.. have a Feliz 5 de mayo.. gardeners like me appreciate you advice.. thanks again y si. Feliz 5 de mayo..
I have a fs250 with a brand new muffler and a brand new carberator and air filter, wont stay running.I garauntee its not the air filter or spark arrestor,so what could it be?
I adjust my carburetors. Elevation changes make it necessary. Stihl filters have too big of a sealing area, so I use Max Flow oiled foam filters. I also have my engines ported. Ive been running 92cc chainsaws since the 066 mag. Got a graveyard full of worn out powerheads. I'm a timber faller.. You're pretty funny.
@@DiscoveringHisWay You too! I immediately applied what you showed in your video to my Stihl FS55R and it now idles beautifully! Thanks again! God bless!
My stihl weed eater doesn’t have a screw for the arrestor, it’s a 16 socket. When I pulled it out I don’t see a screen on it. It’s just a short stubby screw. Threads on one side and just a flared end on the other (exhaust)
I bought a new fs91r and it’s not idled right from the very beginning. It will die about half the time at idle and fire back up and also has a small sputter at full throttle. 🤷♂️
What you won't here from a gas powered tool manufacturer is this: SPARK ARRESTORS SUCK, but are required as so-called safety items. My weedeater, chain saw, and hedge trimmer all started to fail to operate or start. Once I removed the spark arrestors, they all run like new!!
How about some gun barrel spray cleaner like hopes or ballistol and spry it on and let it set for a few minutes and then use a tooth brush to brush all the carbon off.
I'm hoping after watching this you'll save me some time and money!! My FS70 has been giving problems lately as well as my blower. First thing in the morning I'm definitely going to check them out after listening to you. Thanks for the great personality, I loved it!!
Got a weird one. My FS 40 runs like a champ for about 15-20 minutes and acts like it ran out of gas. But viewing show still a third of a tank. And it will crank and idle just fine forever, but when you touch the throttle is dies. Replaced air filter last year as it wouldn't run, but would run without air filter. New filter resolved that issue. This new issue has me scratching my head raw. I thought wow at 1st. What the heck is a spark arrestor? Took mine off, not really that black, but burned it a few times and blew it off and clean as new. No luck... Thinking new carb is my next option. But why does it run for 15 minutes before I have the issue? And if I wait a day, it will run again for about 15 minutes. So weird.
Hubby got d just Did the same Will it still fix it. He also throwed it bc he don’t believe we didn’t put straight gas in it we didn’t idk if it trash now or if it will fix it
So I've gone and messed around with the factory settings on my stihl FS75 weed trimmer... Can someone please help me put it back to the normal settings so she's purring like a kitten again 😢
@@jonasjonaitis2949 I double checked the spark arrestor , even tried to let it idle without the screen in place & it wouldn't. I was going to buy the "special tool" when I read the description of it I realized it was simply a 4mm hex head which I have in a set of drivers. I turned the low adjustment until it would idle without my giving it any throttle. So far so good.
Mines been running like shit since it was brand new. Took it apart cleaned it put it back together with fresh gas and still runs like shit. Ive had ot 5 years and still runs the same as new.
My FS 240 was having problems past idle. This man is 100 percent correct. Burned-out the carbon from the exhaust. Works like a charm.
